Championship win for Leitrim Ladies:
Congratulations to the girls on a great win over Wexford in Round 4 of the All Ireland Intermediate Championship on Sunday. Played in near perfect conditions on a fine surface in Wexford Park, Leitrim were slow to start but gradually came more into the game and a super goal from sub Clare Plunkett before half time turned the tie Leitrim’s way. The team had to battle hard throughout and showed many fine qualities throughout. This great win leaves Leitrim as favourites to top Group 2 and guarantee a semi final spot if they defeat of draw with Louth on Friday evening. A special word of thanks to the Wexford Ladies County Board for their hospitality to Leitrim after the game. Thanks also in particular to the large number of Leitrim supporters who made the long journey to Wexford for the game and their vocal support throughout that lifted the girls when the going got tough.

Leitrim v Louth:
Leitrim’s final game of Group 2 in the Championship will take place on Friday evening at 7.45pm in Pairc Sean in Carrick when Louth are the visitors. The sides last met in competitive action in the quarter final of the Division 2 National League in 2004 when it took extra time to separate the sides also played in Carrick where Louth ran out two point winners. The sides have never met in Championship action but Louth took All Ireland Junior Honours in 1998. Since then they have played at senior level but following poor results in recent years were regraded to Intermediate status this year. They reached the Leinster Intermediate semi final this year but were defeated by Westmeath by 0-10 to 0-06. We would ask as many supporters as possible to come along and support the ladies in their first game in the newly developed Pairc Sean on Friday evening.
