Hurling News

Leitrim Hurling News Week beginning 22nd August

Leitrim’s under 14 and under 16  Development squads will train this thursday in the Bee Park Manorhamilton at 1pm.  They participate in a hurling blitz this saturday 27th. The u16s will travel to Monaghans centre of excellance in Cloghan and the under 14s will travel to Ballychonnel in Cavan. We wish them the best of luck.

Well done to those under 16s who represented Leitrim last thurday in Pearse Stadium.  Cian McCaffery, Niall McLoughlin, Kevin Clerkin, Connor Hurd and Karl McDermott were the hurlers who gave it their all and showed most promise on the day.  Keep up the good work.

Hurling Go Games for Under 8s / under 10s/ under 12s . All new players are encouraged to come along even if its their first time.  Unfortunatley last saturdays blitz was cancelled but willl be re scheduled.  The next blitz will take place on Saturday 3rd September inÓgortlettragh.  The winners of the under 12 blitz will take home the Stephen Dorrigan memorial cup.  So all will be to play for as holders Cluainin Iomaint will be hoping for some silver wear for 2011 after losing the under 14 championship recently to Ballinamore.

Under 16 Championship Fixtures/Results
Cluainin Iomaint travelled to Gortlettragh last tuesday week and won fairly comfortably on a scoreline of 7.17 to 2.03.  Cluainin Iomaint will play Ballinamore next.  St. Marys play Ballinamore this Monday.

Minor Hurling championship will be a straight knock out –
20th August Manor v Ballinamore and Gortlettragh V St. Marys – Awaiting confirmation of results and fixtures.  Final set for Friday 2nd September.

Leitrim Senior Hurling league / Championship Draw 2011
St. Marys travelled to Gortlettragh last Monday week and won comfortably.  Marys travelled to Manorhamilton on Monday hoping to avenge their last defeat a few weeks ago in the league.  This game will provide a warm up to the Championship where at last Fridays Hurling board meeting Cluainin Iomaint once again drew Marys for a second year running in the championship semi final.  Ballinamore will play Gortlettragh in the other semi final.  Last years semi final between the pair went to extra time with Gortlettragh running the King Pins of Leitrim Hurling very close in the final.  Cluainin Iomaint will be hoping that their involvement in both the Ulster Hurling league and Sligo league will stand to them with the extra game time under thier belts.  Both Semi finals will take place on October 1st in Park Tom.
