The Leitrim Colleges 40×20 Junior Finals were played in Drumshanbo on Sunday between Ballinamore CS and Drumshanbo VS. In Boys Junior Cormac Scollan (Ballinamore CS) had a comprehensive win over Gareth Gilmartin (Drumshanbo VS), taking the title on a scoreline of 15-2, 15-4. In Boys Junior Doubles Drumshanbos David Gallagher and Fergal Moran overcame the challenge of Fergal McLoughlin and James Wrynn (Ballinamore CS) by the narrowest of margins, 15-6, 1-15, 15-14. A superb start by the Drumshanbo doubles set the tone for the first game. With fantastic serving and fully in control during the rallies they eased to victory.The second game was a complete reversal with the Ballinamore CS boys taking charge, they won easily to take the match to a tie-break. With both sets of players having comprehensive wins under their belts, the tie break lived up to all expectations, with an exceptional display of the skills of handball. The game went right down to the wire with some fantastic rallies, excellent finishing and flawless serving. The Drumshanbo duo regained serve 14-13 down, and went on to secure victory 15-14.
The Connacht Colleges Finals are set for Invern and Moycullen inÓgalway on Saturday, where Edel ODonnell, Sean Lynch,. Evan Foley and Emmett Moran (Drumshanbo VS) First Year singles and doubles, and Jarlath Scollan (Ballinamore CS) Intermediate will also compete.
