Kiltubrid GAA Club Notes 08/01/2017

Belated New Year Wishes – Happy belated New Year to all our players, coaches, supporters and neighbours. All the best for 2018 from all at the club.

St Stephen’s Day Charity Game – Our annual Charity game was competitive considering some players were feeling a little worse for wear. The over 25’s roared into a commanding lead by halftime but the under 25’s superior fitness showed with a strong comeback in the second half. Unfortunately for them, the over 25’s experience won out in the end by a slim 2 points.
We raised 600 euro for the Simon community and donated 30 euro to the walk in memory of Lorraine lynch that also took place on St Stephens Day in Drumshanbo. Thanks to all who braved the cold to watch the game and thanks to Geraldine and the girls for making tea for all who attended.

Poker – Thank you to everyone who supported a great night’s Poker in the Cardiff’s Lakeside Bar.  After an epic battle, Mickey Earley claimed first prize over Romychito Galang and Kevin Meehan in second and third respectively.  Well done to those who organized the tournament and thank you to our hosts Eilis & James Cardiff for their as ever great hospitality on the night.  All funds raised will go directly to new gym equipment for Kiltubrid GAA.

Kiltubrid GAA NFL Predictions Competition – Win €550 with  Kiltubrid GAA NFL Predictions competition which starts with Round 1 on 27th January.  It’s the same format as last year.  We’ve added an online Pay & Play facility which will allow you do your picks online if you pay €14 up front. Want to Improve your Irish? –

Irish conversation classes, or Ciorcal Comhrá, will start again in Ballinamore Library on Tuesday, 9 January 2018 at 8.00pm. There are separate groups for relative beginners, for those who have some Irish and for those who are fluent. These classes are a great opportunity to practice the Irish you know and to improve it. Also, Leaving Cert or transitional year students will find it useful for practice for their Irish orals. Classes are free and will run for 10 weeks to mid-March. Seo seans chun an Ghaeilge a labhairt. Beidh fáilte romhat. More information from Sean Ó Súilleabháin 087 6821566

Park Development Meeting – With the recent successful grant of €75000 for an upgrade of the Pairc Cill Tiobraid Playing Surface we are holding a meeting on Sat 13th January at 7.30pm in Cardiff’s, Drumcong.  Everyone who uses the Park in any way is encouraged to attend on the night as we look to plan a Fundraising Event to offset the additional costs outside the grant figure for the Development of the Playing Surface and general Park Facilities.  All ideas and Input are very welcome at this meeting as we undertake this major Park Development.

Condolences – Condolences to the family of Michael Sweeney who recently passed away in Galway. His funeral took place on the 30th of December. Michael lived in Keshcarrigan before moving to Galway over forty years ago. For those that don’t know he was a pivotal figure in promoting the GAA in Kiltubrid parish. He motivated many of the younger footballers in the sixties to get involved in football. His love of the Gaelic culture drove him to encourage many young lads at that time to participate in their club underage teams. He helped to shape the club to the way it is today. May he Rest In Peace.

Underage Registration – Underage Registration will take place this Friday 12th January at 7pm at the pitch. There will be a short presentation to discuss training requirements for the year. If anyone would like to help out with any of the underage teams in any way please contact Shane on 0872862841
