Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club Notes 19/04/2018

Yearly Lotto –  Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club Yearly Lotto Ticket is now due for renewal. The Yearly Lotto ticket costs €50. If anyone would like to purchase or renew their existing ticket please contact Sheila McMorrow on 0863531705 before Monday the 30th of April.

European Boxing Championships – Best of luck to our club player Dearbhla Rooney who is in Italy this week competing in the U18 Flyweight European Boxing Championships. It is a fantastic achievement for Dearbhla, her family and the Sean McDermott Boxing Club to compete at an international level and testament to their hard work and effort.

Rest in Peace Shay – Our club members were shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the passing of a great GAA friend in Shay Reynolds, Bornacoola.  Shay’s GAA allegiance, the lasting friendships he forged throughout the county and his honesty and integrity as an administrator have been recounted within our club and are an example to all.  He has left a lasting mark on all who knew him and his passing will leave a massive void.  We extend our sympathies to his beloved family, many friends and his club Bornacoola.   Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Junior Girls All Ireland – Huge disappointment for all associated with St Clare’s Comprehensive School but most especially the girls and their management team with the All Ireland Final being cancelled last Sunday when the Cork School revealed late on Friday evening they would not be able to fulfill the fixture.  All Ireland Finals don’t come around too often and to be denied the opportunity to play in one is heartbreaking for the school girls.

Division 1 League – Well done to our senior team who continued their winning ways with a hard fought away win over Aughawillan last Saturday evening.  Both teams contributed to a high quality game with some fantastic long range scores a feature of this high scoring contest which finished 2-15 to 0-16.

Division 2 and 3 League – Our Division 2 team agonisingly lost another close game when they travelled to Cloone on Sunday to take on the home side.  The home side’s ability to score goals proved costly with the final score 2-9 to 0-13.  Our Division 3 team were not able to field against Carrigallen on the same day and this weekend they host Gortletteragh on Saturday at 7pm.  Please support the team and management.

U13 Boys – Hard luck to our U13s who lost the 15aside League Semi Final against Mohill by 2 points in Mohill on Thursday evening last.  It was a brilliant performance from these young lads with loads of skill, but what was most impressive was their never give up attitude and over all work rate.  Well done to all the boys and their management team of Adrian Croal and Kenneth McMorrow.

U9 Blitz – A blitz against St Mary’s is scheduled for 10am this Saturday morning in the Bee Park.

U14 Girls –Best of luck to our U14 girls who take on St Mary’s in the league this Wednesday evening at 7pm in Boggaun. This will also impact on the Qualification for Feile 2018. Please support.

Senior Ladies – Our Division 1 Ladies side travel to Aughawillan this Sunday morning at 11am for their third round of the league campaign. The girls hope to secure another league win. Please support if you can.

Cake Sale – The Ladies Club will be hosting a Cake Sale after all  Mullies, Glencar and Manorhamilton Masses on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April. This fundraiser is to support the general running of the club including referees, pitch expenses and footballs etc.  The entire ladies club will be making an array of baked goods including tray bakes, cakes , tarts, scones, breads etc. With plenty of sweet treats and some healthy options this is always a great selection of items. Your generous support would be greatly appreciated.

U12 Girls – Training for this group of players takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at St Clares NS Astro.  Contact Brendan McLaughlin for further information.

Senior Hurlers – Due to the death of Donal Kirby R.I.P. (Western Gaels) and Secretary of the C.C.C. Coiste Chontae Shligigh the Dermot Molloy Hurling League fixtures scheduled for last weekend were postponed as a mark of respect.  Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Club Academy – Our Club Academy for U7s, U9s and U11’s continues on Friday nights.  Venue is weather dependent and will be notified to parents and posted on our Facebook page.  €2 each or €5 max per family.  New players are joining every week so feel free to bring your children along to join in the fun and games.
