Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club Notes 03/07/2018

50th Celebration – On the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2019 we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our great club. Events will be run throughout the weekend so do be sure to keep it free in your diaries. We hope it will be a gathering of the many people at home and abroad who down through the years represented, officiated, sponsored and supported Glencar Manor. This is an open invitation to everyone who has or had an association with us from 1969 to the present day. More details to follow.

Senior Ladies – Our Senior Ladies team take on neighbours Dromahair in the Division 1 League Final this Sunday in Allen Gaels, Drumshanbo at 1.30pm. Best of luck to Shane, James, Eamon, Dessie and the girls as they contest the Senior League Final for the first time in the club’s history. All support greatly appreciated.

Dunnes Bar All County Leagues – Well done to our Divison 2 team who had a comprehensive home win over Ballinamore SOH last Sunday morning in Boggaun.  A busy schedule of football is in store for our adult teams with all three of our teams taking to the field over the next week.  This evening (Wednesday 4th July) we host Glenfarne Kiltyclogher in Division 3 at 8pm.  On Saturday our Seniors welcome Ballinaglera to Boggaun at 7pm for Round 9 of the Dunnes Bar All County League while on Sunday our Division 2 side take on Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo at 11.30am.  Next Wednesday 11th July our Seniors travel to Mohill to take on the County Champions at 8pm.  Please continue your support to our teams.  Good luck to all involved.

U14 Feile Boys – Our Feile boys team did us all proud this past weekend. They suffered a heart-breaking defeat, literally with the last kick of the game in the All Ireland Cup Final against a fine team from Ballinderry. Their maturity, commitment, skill, desire and never give up attitude was a pleasure to observe. Whilst the result did not go our way, the final was a showcase of what is great about this team, as they absolutely gave it everything. No one could ask for more.  They are fine ambassadors for our Club and wider community. Special thanks must go to a first class management team, consisting of Dominic Kelly, Kevin McManus, Stuart Gilbride and James Glancy. The preparation involved was enormous and a massive undertaking where everything was planned with military type precision. The soaring temperatures and sunny conditions created a bigger than normal workload.   The logistics alone in ensuring the team were adequately hydrated and providing optimum facilities for rest and recover between games should not be underestimated. Thank you lads for giving our boys the opportunity to be the best they could be. You are true role models.  Liatroim Fontenoy were our host club. People can go through life and meet special people and be positively influenced by them. Us as a Club have had the absolute honour of meeting a club of the stature of Liatroim Fontenoy over this past weekend. Their hospitality showed no boundaries, from the first moment our team arrived to their departure for home on Sunday evening. They are the oldest in Co. Down and are in existence since 1888. They are the very centre of their community where young and old are active in all facets of club life. Friendships were made and good memories created. Rumour even has it some of our younger lady supporters have lots of new Snapchat friends! Liatroim Fontenoy can be nothing but a positive influence on us all as individuals and collectively as Glencar Manorhamilton GAA. Credit has to go to all the parents who made this weekend possible. It was their efforts at our “ball run” fundraiser which made it possible. It is the parents who bring the lads to training week in week out and this is not easy as it involves sacrifice in an ever busy life. Parents, you are raising fine young men, you should be very proud. Sincere thanks to all the supporters who made the journey to Co. Down.

U14 Feile Girls – Well done to our U14 Girls Feile Team who reached the All Ireland Division 3 Quarter Finals only to lose out to a strong Offaly side, Naomh Ciaran. The girls won 2 of their 3 group games to qualify for the Quarter Finals on Saturday afternoon, defeating St John Bosco and Rostrevor.  They were hosted by St John Bosco, Louth for the weekend and enjoyed glorious weather conditions throughout the competition, which made playing all the more difficult for all sides. A great bunch of supporters travelled to cheer on the girls who made good friends with their host club thanks to the warm hospitality shown – the team and mentors would like to thank their host club and also their sponsors Killasnett Co-Op, Manorhamilton Credit Union, Cormac O’Mahony – O’Mahony’s Bar, Mullins Manorhamilton, the Bee Park Community Centre (for use of canopy’s) and Gareth Foley in Breffin Travel.  The girls were expertly coached throughout the Feile campaign and special thanks is due to Dermot McMorrow, Martina Brady, Maeve Conlon and Berni McMorrow for leaving no stone unturned in the preparations for this prestigious tournament.  The coaches have also made it known that they were privileged to work with a terrific bunch of girls.
