Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club Notes 07/11/2018

Senior League Champions – Pride of place this week goes to our senior football team who captured the Dunnes Bar ACL Division 1 League title on Sunday last in Avantcard Páirc Seán defeating Ballinamore SOH in a hugely entertaining game of football on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-12.  Manor were led out onto the field by joint captains Adrian Croal and Brian McDonald who were welcome returnees from injuries picked up in the championship semi-final with Gerry Hickey also returning from injury to shore up the defence.  In the opening half Manor were on top leading 2-6 to 0-9 at the interval with Conor Dolan and Seamus Ryder hitting our goals.  In the second half they found a resilient Ballinamore side very hard to break down and in particular the inspired Philip Farrelly in goals who saved his second penalty of the day and numerous shots to keep his side well and truly in the game.  Midway through the second halfBallinamore took the lead but with their backs to the wall our lads came out fighting and finished the contest with 5 unanswered points to claim their 8th Senior League title for the club and our first since 2014 with joint captains Adrian and Brian clearly delighted to be climbing the steps of our county grounds, shoulder to shoulder to accept the Senior League trophy.  Sincere thanks to this group of players who brought honours to the club on Sunday.  We also thank their management team of Shane Ward and Kieran Fox for guiding the team to a senior championship semi-final and senior league success – for the record the team only lost two games all season.  Being in the winning enclosures is a very special occasion for players, their families but most especially for our younger players who aspire to replicate the many Glencar Manor hero’s we have on this senior panel.  We are glad the boys and girls tasted success on Sunday.  Finally, hard luck to the Ballinamore team – we have lost our fair share of finals and know the pain.

Samhain Parade Cluainín – Well done to everyone involved in the Samhain Parade which took place last Sunday night in Manorhamilton.  It was a truly spectacular event which did not disappoint the huge crowd in attendance.
