Melvin Gaels GAA Club Notes 28/11/2018

Under 20 Champions – A great day for the Under 20 team on Sunday when they defeated St Manchan’s to win the first Under 20 A Final.  This was a hard fought but deserved win. Although the game was close and the lead changed a number of times the Gaels never gave up and finished strongly. This is a fantastic way to finish 2018 and these young lads have done the Club proud. Congratulations to Darragh Rooney who won the Mat of the Match award. Well done to all the mentors, Gareth, Liam, Joe and Peter.  Great work by everyone involved. Thanks to all who came along and gave support and all who gave the team such a great welcome home.

Club AGM – There was a good attendance at the AGM on Sunday evening, and after winning the Under 20 Championship earlier in the day, the atmosphere was good. The election of officers resulted in a number of new people appointed to different positions in the Club. The new Chairman is Liam Freeburn with Pat Gallagher as Vice Chairman. Mark Cleary is remaining as Club Secretary and Mary Mc Sharry as Club Registrar and assistant. Tina Whelan is taking up the position of Club Treasurer. Katherine Williams has stepped down as Treasurer, but will do assistant Treasurer for this year. Maria Foley was appointed PRO for the Club. Martin Mc Carron is remaining as Children’s Officer. The outgoing officers were thanked for all the hard work they put in during the year gave a detailed account of all activities during the year.

The Club would like to wish all the new Committee every success in 2019

Get Your Mark on Melvin Park – It is very important that all Club Members help with the fundraising needed to complete the work on Melvin Park. Anyone who has not yet contributed is asked to do so as soon as possible. Contact any member of the Development Committee to purchase your ”Mark” and ensure that the Club will have the facilities everyone can be proud of. The support has been very good so far. The fundraising will involve “Make Your Mark on Melvin Park” for €100 which will represent a square of Melvin Park, entry into a draw, prizes 5x €1000, and your name on a commemorative plaque. To get your “Mark on Melvin Park” contact Spar, Kinlough or Pat at 0871787194 or Katherine at 087 287 0086 or go to www.kinloughcommunitycentre.wordpress.com.

Lights On – The lights will be on at the Training Pitch every evening from 4pm to 9pm as a Health Initiative so that the Community can make use of them on the dark evenings.
