The AIB Club Junior Hurling Championship Semi Final fixture betweenÓgortletteragh (Leitrim) and Calry St Josephs (Sligo) has been switched from Ballinamore to Markievicz Park this bank holiday Monday (31st October).

We wish Gortletteragh the very best of luck.

Extra time if necessary.

Gortletteragh captured the Leitrim Senior Hurling Championship title on Saturday in Pairc Sean when they defeated a gallant Cluainín side in the Final replay after another extra time thriller. Gortletteragh had the better of exchanges in the opening half and they lead 2-3 to 0-4 at the interval. Cluainín battled back tremendously in the second half and a late free forced extra-time with a 1-8 to 2-5 scoreline. Cluainín took the lead at the start of extra-time but an Eanna MaddenÓgoal for Gortletteragh six minutes from time proved the winning score. Final score read Gortletteragh 3-7. Cluainín 1-11 (after extra-time).

Gortletteragh bridged a 13 year gap to win this years Senior Hurling Championship and we take this opportunity to congratulate them on their success and wish them well on the road in Connacht.

Finally, well done to both teams on producing two absorbing contests and their officials and mentors for promoting hurling in the county. The attendances at both fixtures were very impressive and hopefully that reflects a growing interest in hurling in the county. Again, well done to all concerned.

Leitrim Senior Hurling Final Replay The Senior Hurling final replay betweenÓgortletteragh and Cluainin Iomaint takes place in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada this Saturday at 3.45pm. Where both teams lacked in Scóring in the first game they certainly provided excitement in abundance. The novel pairing of both teams in this years final attracted a record crowd two weeks ago and this Saturdays replay will surely replicate the same. Sean Walsh Hurling Tournament The Sean Walsh Hurling Tournament will run in Carrick on Shannon this Saturday from 10.30am to 4.30pm with Pairc Sean MacDiarmada and Pairc Naomh Mhuire hosting the games. Please support as there will be lots of entertaining hurling games on show. There are teams from Dublin, Limerick, Waterford, Cavan, Longford and our own county attending. With the county final taking centre stage this Saturday, Carrick on Shannon will provide what promises to be an extremely entertaining day of hurling.

Senior Hurling Final

Senior Hurling Final Gortletteragh 0.10 Cluainin Iomaint 2.04 (After Extra time) In what was an enthralling final where both teams found it difficult to get used to the wet sliotar we will have a replay. Replay details unknown at time of going to print. Gorletteragh showed their never say die attitude throughout the game by drawning level with Cluainin time and time again. One thing we are all sure of is that there will be a new name on the Stephen Dorrigan Memorial Senior Championship Cup come the replay. See full report in sports section of Leitrim Observer.  Photographs from the match are available in the gallery section.

Under 16 Leitrim Championship

Under 16 Championship St. Marys GAA pitch provided perfect conditions for hurling last Wednesday evening for the Under 16 Hurling Final. Ballinamore Hurling club played Cluainin Iomaint in an exciting final that ended very close on a scoreline of 2.05 to 2.04 in favour of Cluainin Iomaint. Ballinamore set up an exciting finish by Scóring an excellent goal that beat the injured Gavin O Hagan who would normally line out in midfield. Pearse Dolan was excellent for Ballinamore but Kevin Clerkin at centre back broke down Ballinamores attacks one after another. Kevin Clerkin has shone for the Under 16 Development Squads this year and is a star for the future. Niall McLoughlin was ever dependable in midfield and scored some important points and Oisin Parkinson Coombs was always threatening the Ballinamore defence. But it was Martin Feeney who buried a fantastic goal for Cluainin and was later involved in a some what controversial penalty call where Niall McLoughlin sent the resulting penalty to the net.

Cluainin travelled to Kent Park on Sunday last to take on Sligo Champions Naomh Eoin. Naomh Eoin had won the Feile with the same team two years ago so were going to be strong. Cluainin had high hopes as they drew with them earlier in the year in the Sligo league. In very wet and miserable conditions Naomh EoinÓgot off to the perfect start with two early goals and a point. But a limping Gavin O Hagan sent a powerful shot to the net. Soon after Oisin Parkinson Coombs scored a long range effort over the bar to lift Cluainins hopes going into half time. After the restart Naomh Eoin continued their Scóring dominance with three points and two more goals. Cluainin continued to threaten whenÓgavin O Hagan hit the side netting. Soon after Gavin was fouled and Niall McLoughlin pointed. Cluainin were not finished as Niall McLoughlin scored two powerful shots to the net that only Gary Hickey would be proud of! Unfortunaltely, Naomh Eoin finished strong and scored another two goals and a point to see off Cluainins attempts to rescue an historic win.

Sean Walsh Hurling Tournament

Sean Walsh Hurling Tournament – Sean Walsh Hurling Tournament will run in Carrick on Shannon October 22nd from 10.30am to 4.30pm. Please support as there will be lots of entertaining hurling games on show.

Championship Draw 2011

St. Marys Hurling Club V Cluainin Iomaint
Ballinamore V Gortlettragh
Both semi finals will take place on October 1st in St. Mary’s GAA pitch. Throw in for first game is 2pm.

Hurling Go Games for Under 8s / Under 10s/ Under 12s

A blitz took place in Gortletteragh last Saturday. St. Mary’s, Ballinamore, Gortlettragh and Cluainin Iomaint all contested for the Stephen Dorrigan Memorial Cup. Mary’s commenced the blitz with a win over Ballinamore and Cluainin won their game against Gortletteragh. Mary’s then played Gortletteragh and won. Cluainin also won their game against Ballinamore. The final was then played with Mary’s showing their dominance against Cluainin. Ballinamore and Gortletteragh played after the final. Please keep an eye on notes for next blitz.

Minor Championship Final

St. Marys Hurling club hosted Cluainin Iomaint in St. Marys GAA pitch last Friday night. Timing of this fixture hindered both clubs with their involvment in the minor football championship. In an entertaining game Marys displayed their dominance early on by Scóring some impressive goals. Cluainin Iomaint were dependant on Under 16 Gavin O Hagan for their scores. Gavin scored 5 points and was very unlucky not to score 3 goals, one of which hit the side netting. Maybe if these goals were scored Cluainin might have had a better chance of containing Marys. Cluainin found it very difficult to get an attack past Thomas Glancy who was instrumental in Marys defence. Thomas was always in the right place to snuff out any chance Cluainin had of Scóring. Well done to Olchan Conway and Daithi Hughes for putting inÓgreat work with St. Marys minor team.

Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland 7s competition

Cluainin Iomaint travelled to Dublin last Saturday and had three very entertaining games against MacCumhaills of Donegal, Coolera/Strandhill (Sligo) and Innishkeen (Monaghan). Cluainin battled well and adjusted quickly to the speedy game in which goals were the difference in each game. In what was a great experience Cluainin will count their involvment in this competition as great preparation to take on St Marys in the semi final of the Championship on October 1st.
