St Brigids had two games over the weekend – Friday eve they played Dromahaire in Aughnasheeling and were on the wrong end of the scoreline of 4 10 to 3 5.  On Saturday morning they played Leitrim Gaels away and got their first points with a draw 1 11 each – next up on Saturday next at 12 noon at St Marys pitch Ck on Shannon they play St Marys – good luck to all.

Championship  –  On Saturday eve we took on Melvin Gaels in Drumshanbo – a win or a draw would see us progress to the Quarter Finals but it wasn’t to be – game started at a fast past on a very slippery surface – Melvin Gaels had the first score – we got off the mark with a point from Conor Cullen – we settled well and Fintan Fitzpatrick put the ball over the bar from a free.  Aaron Hoare had a good score from play this followed with a great ball intercepted by  Fergal Early which he passed into  Gavin Sammon who popped it over the bar – Brendan Mulvey followed with a good score – we followed up with 2 points from Fintan Fitzpatrick which left us going in at the break 7 points to 5.  Brendan Mulvey was a big loss to injury at the break – again Melvin Gaels got the 1st score of the 2nd half – we struggled in the 2nd half scoring only 2 points Fintan Fitzpatrick and Barry McWeeney from a free – we had chances but lady luck didn’t shine on us  –  from here we go into playoff with Dromahair in 2 weeks – Team Gavin McWeeney, Paddy McManus, Cathal Egan, Paul Earley, Christy McNulty, Sean McWeeney, Wayne Gilgunn, Barry McWeeney, Conor Cullen, Brendan Mulvey, Fintan Fitzpatrick, Fergal Earley,Aaron Hoare, Ciaran Cullen, Gavin Sammon – Subs Ben McGirl, Philip Dolan, Damian Gilheaney, Sean Mahon.  Well done lads for some great football over the summer and speedy recovery to our injured players.

St Bridgets – U 15s had their first game on Tuesday eve last in Aughnasheelin against Mohill – they came up against a very strong Mohill Team with some great football played by both teams – Mohill ran out easy winners on a scoreline of 3 15 to 1 3.

Championship  –  Round 5  –  Next Saturday eve is a very important game  for our Team  and Management as we play Melvin Gaels in Drumshanbo at 6 30 – this is a game ourselves and Melvin Gaels need to win – we look forward to a good game so come to Drumshanbo and get behind  our lads and show them the support they deserve.

Senior Championship – We played Allen Gaels in the 4th  Round in Ballinamore on Saturday eve – this game started at a fast pace with Allen Gaels on the Score board with the first 50 seconds and mins later they had a great chance to go 1 1 up with a penalty which was well saved by Gavin – we got off the mark with a point from Fintan Fitzpatrick – settled down and took control of the game playing some great football – scores followed with points from Ciaran Cullen Fintan Fitzpatrick Brendan Mulvey Conor Cullen and following a great pass from Conor Cullen Gavin Sammon finished to the net – the score board at half time read Achadh ná Síleann 1 10 Allen Gaels 4 points.  Second half again say some great football with scores coming from Fintan Fitzpatrick, Barry McWeeney, Conor Cullen – overall this was a very gutsy team performance with some great scoring – game  finished on a scoreline of 1 17 to 1 9 – which leaves us on 4 points with all to play for going into the last round when we play Melvin Gaels in 2 weeks time  – well done to all who played their part on Saturday eve – Gavin McWeeney, Paddy McManus, Paul Earley Cathal Eagan, Wayne Gilgunn, Christy McNulty, Kevin McWeeney, Sean McWeeney, Aaron Hoare, Barry McWeeney, Brendan Mulvey, , Ciaran Cullen, Ben McGirl, Fintan Fitzpatrick,Gavin Sammon , Subs Conor Cullen, Fergal Earley, Damien Gilheaney, Philip Dolan.

St Brigids U 13s had a hard fought win over Kiltubrid on Thursday eve last in Aughnasheelin -this was a very entertaining game of football with Kiltubrid the stronger team in the first half with the score at half time 2 2 to 2 pts – St Brigids came back out for the 2nd half raring to go and bit by bit racked up the scores with an early goal and got a 2nd goal near the end of full time to finish on a scoreline of 2 8 to 2 6 – well done to the young boys on both teams who served up some lovely football – St Brigids now play Gortletteragh.  The game against Gortletteragh took place on Monday eve another hard fought battle and St Brigids were very unlucky come out the wrong side of the scoreline 1 7 to 9 points – this is a great bunch of young lads some of them have a few more years at this grade so keep up the football boys well done to all involved and especially their trainers – Aughnasheelin boys involved Senan McTeigue, Thomas Gunn, Shane Gallagher, Francis McGirl, Tommy Reilly, Eoin Reynolds and Enda Reynolds, Cormac Moran, Ryan Tubman.

Summer Camp  –  Well done to all involved with the Summer Camp which again was very successful with a big no of children attending over the 2 days August 10th and 11th.

Charity Cycle  –  Francie  and Patrice Smyth – son and daughter of Pat Smith Drumdarton and Conor McWeeney – son of John McWeeney Miskawn, both Pat and John now live in London.  Francie, Patrice and Conor are cycling from Ballinamore to Cricklewood – they left from Ballinamore on Tuesday morn at 8 am and hope to arrive in Cricklewood on Saturday September 1st – their aim is to fundraise and raise awareness for their 2 charities Prostrate Cancer Uk and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation which are both close to their hearts.  Wishing them all the best and a safe cycle to Cricklewood –  more information UK Virgin Giving Fundraising ‘Leitrim to London Cycle’ page.

Senior Championship  –  We played St Marys in Drumshanbo on a wet  Saturday eve  which left the pitch slippy – St Marys were first on the score board this game was nip and tuck for the first half with scores from Gavin ammon 2 pts Fintan Fitzpatrick and Damian Gilheaney with a point each – it was 5 pts to 4 at the break in favour of St Marys – Connor Cullen replaced Paddy McManus at the break – the sides were level with a point from Ciaran Cullen in the first few minutes of the second half  we followed up with points from Barry McWeeney and Ciaran Cullen – we didn’t get the lucky breaks and St Marys ran out winners on a score line of of 1 11 to 7 points. We wish a  speedy recovery to full health to Cormac Sammon who suffered an unfortunate injury.

Senior Football Championship Round 2 – We headed to Cloone to play Bornacoola Saturday eve  – game started at a fast pace with Bornacoola getting on the scoreboard with a point from Brian Conroy in the first minute Brendan Mulvey got us off the mark with a good point followed by a point from Barry McWeeney both teams traded points  with Gavin Sammon scoring a good point a good move up the field saw Wayne Gilgunn  score a great goal – think it could be a first for Wayne in Championship football – Gavin Sammon got his 2nd point followed by Ciaran Cullen with 2 points and Brendan Mulvey got our last score before halftime – at halftime it was very close 1 7 to 7 points.  Ben McGirl started for Christy McNulty in 2nd half – Fintan Fitzpatrick had a point from a free in the 1st minute, Fintan also got our next score followed by a great point from Ben McGirl – we had a great chance for a second goal but didnt happen, Fintan was back with another point followed by a good score from Sean McWeeney – Bornacoola got some nice points and stayed in the game we pulled away in the last quarter with good points from Fintan Fitzpatrick, 3 points from Gavin Sammon, and our last scorer  was Damian Gilheaney with a good point he had  replaced Kevin McWeeney and Dean Flanagan came on for Gavin Sammon  – over all this was a good team performance and a well deserved 2 points.

Next Saturday we play St Marys in Drumshanbo at 530 – please along and show your support for all involved.

1st Round Connacht Gold Senior Championship  –  Our 1st game of the Senior Championship football against Glencar Manor at Pairc Seán on Saturday evening was a tough battle – we gifted Glencar an unfortunate  goal in the opening few minutes had them on their way.  We settled down with a good score from Barry McWeeney followed by a point from Brendan Mulvey – Glencar Manor pointed some lovely scores.  We had a great chance for a goal which was put over the bar – at half time it was Glencar Manor 1 10 to Achadh ná Síleann 6 points  – the 2nd half didn’t start good for us as again we gifted them a goal, Glencar Manor were going well and it was 15 minutes before we got a point on the score board and it was the last kick of the ball when we got our 8th point from Barry McWeeney.  We lost Paddy McManus to a second yellow card.  With injuries and some lads away it is going to be a hard Championship.  Team line out Gavin McWeeney, Paddy McManus, Cormac Sammon, Paul Earley, Christy McNulty, Sean McWeeney, Wayne Gilgunn, Barry McWeeney, Kevin McWeeney, Brendan Mulvey, Fintan Fitzpatrick, Cathal Egan, Ben McGirl, Aaron Hoare, Ciaran Cullen – Subs Damian Gilheaney for Ben McGirl, Dean Flanagan for Brendan Mulvey  –  Scorers  Fintan Fitzpatrick  3 points,  Barry McWeeney 2 points, Ciaran Cullen 2 points, Brendan Mulvey 1 point.

Senior League  –  We played Ballinaglera on Saturday eve last in Ballinaglera – this was a game we needed to win and we came away with a win on a scoreline of 2 19 to 2 9.

Championship  –  The summer is  moving on and it time for Championship Football to begin  –  what a year 2017 was for our  Club winning the Intermediate Championship so we now face into Senior Championship which is a big step up  –  our first game is against  Glencar Manor on Saturday eve at 7pm in Páirc Seán in Cara Droma Ruisc.  We wish the lads and Management Team all the best for  the upcoming game.  Please come along to Páirc Seán on Saturday to support our lads.

Aughnasheelin GAA Summer Camp 2018 will take place August 10th and 11th from 10am – 2pm in our club grounds. Anyone from 5 to 14 years of age is welcome to take part.  This year we intend to get the participants club crested tops to mark the occasion. Pre-registration is required to ensure tops arrive on time so the cut-off will be the 21st July. A registration morning will be held this Saturday 21st at 10am in the club rooms. Cost of the camp will be:
– €25/child for 1st and 2nd child and  €20/child thereafter
– For those not interested in the top  €10/child (they won’t leave empty handed)
Anyone interested in volunteering to help out let us know.

Comhghairdeas to Mary Cassidy who was the surprise ‘This is your Life’ Guest  last week at the Lord Mayor Fundraising for the Ballinamore Festival – well done to all involved in organising a great night’s fun especially Brid.

Dunnes Bar Division 1 League – Our Senior lads had mixed fortunes over the last week  –  on Wednesday eve we played Leitrim Gaels in Leitrim and came away on the winning side after a hard fought battle on a scoreline of 1 14 to 1 13 – a well-deserved win.  On Saturday eve we played Fenagh St Caillins at home – another tough game but we ended up on the wrong side of the 2 15 to 10 points scoreline – we are very tight on numbers with injuries -speedy recovery to our injured lads.

Community Games  –  Well done to the Ballinamore U 12 girls team who made it through to the Connacht Final and were just pipped at the post by  Roscommon. we were represented by Dearbhla Gunn and Rebecca Reilly – Dearbhla played a stormer in both the semi-final and final and covered every blade of grass and took some great scores – commiserations and a big well done.
