Senior Ladies narrowly lose out in Division 2 League final –
Oughteragh Gaels 1-15 – Glencar/Manor 4-8
Hard luck to our ladies team who came up just short in the Division 2 League final on Sunday afternoon in Kiltubrid. The team put in a huge effort throughout against a very talented Glencar/Manorhamilton outfit who were clinical when it came to taking their chances. On the other hand, we managed to hit the woodwork no less than six times and try as we might, it just wasn’t to be our day. A huge well done to the whole panel for their achievements this season – Intermediate County Champions and they still have at least one more game in the Connacht Championship vs Moycullen of Galway.
Team: Ellen Wrynn, Leanne McGrath, Lisa Maguire, Abbi Sweeney, Maeve Hamill, Kirby Gilgunn, Katie Duignan, Ciara O’Dowd, Eilish O’Dowd (0-2), Emma McGovern, Laura O’Dowd (0-8), Roisin McHugh (1-5), Mary McNulty, Siobhan Earley, Ciara McGoldrick.

Another Championship win for the U16 Ladies!

Sean O’Heslin’s 10-7 – Annaduff 3-2

Our U16’s made it 3 wins from 3 Championship group games on Thursday evening in Annaduff, putting on yet another a brilliant performance to secure top spot. It was a tough game for long spells and despite the end scoreline, the girls had to work hard until they took it up a level in the second half. A number of players had standout games and hopefully this form will be taken forward into the semi-finals. As it stands, we have no opponent or date for that game but shall update on Facebook when further details are known.

Team: Erin Keegan, Tara Conway, Emma Honeyman, Joely McGovern, Abbi Sweeney, Gracie Reilly, Grainne Prior (0-2), Laoise Moran King (1-1), Niamh Donohoe (1-1), Megan McGovern (3-0), Emma Beirne, Lily Byrne (2-1), Eadaoin Murphy (2-1).

Subs Used: Mollie Murphy, Siobhan Flynn, Michaela Harte (0-1), Ruth Creamer (1-0), Aoife Darcy.

Under 13 Boys

SOH U13 boys. What a difference a week makes as SOH exited the championship at semi final stage against Allen Gaels on a score line of 3:9 to 5:9. Well done to all players who put in a tremendous effort all year. Squad:

Senior Championship

It was another impressive victory on Saturday evening this time in Drumkeerin for the senior lads, against Gail na Meilge, the lads were very impressive building up a great lead in the first 20 minutes of the game and went in at half time fully in control with a score of 2:07 to 0:04. Gail na Meilge improved in the second half with 8 scores against our 6, it was not enough and we saw out the game winning by a score of 2:13 to 0:12. The win left Ballinamore finishing the group on maximum points. Well done to all the lads hey put in a great performance all over the pitch.

Next Saturday sees us take to the field for a quarter final tie against Dromahair in Pairc Sean, this promises to be a tough match against a team that showed their quality last week when they defeated Annaduff who were probably favourites to progress. When you reach this stage of any competition it can go either way and despite people trying to lay down the favorites tag on Ballinamore when you reach a knockout stage it’s all down to the day and the bounce of the ball.

It’s at this time that we really need to get behind the lads and hopefully as many of you as possible travel to Carrick to cheer the lads on to a very hoped-for victory!!!

Junior A Championship

The Junior A lads were in action on Sunday against Gortletterage in Aughavas in a quarter final tie and like their senior colleagues they put in a great performance as well winning by a score of 0:18 to 1:12 in a very close and hard-fought match.

The Mammy !!!

Well done to Breege McGovern  proud Mammy who was seen in action on Jeff and Kammy’s journey to Croker on Monday gone. Breege put in mighty performance for the lads and was an inspiration to all the other mammy’s out there. To see Breege in action you can follow the link on our Facebook page.

Senior Championship

It was another impressive victory on Saturday evening in Cloone for the senior lads, this time they were up against an equally impressive Mohill team where a win for either team would cement their place at the top of group one. The lads were in flying form and certainly started the much brighter of the two and within the first quarter were leading by six points with the score 0:8 to 0:2 with some magnificent scores. Mohill improved over the next 10 minutes and added four of their own points before Ballinamore were to get their next and despite our early dominance we only wet in leading by two points with the halftime score 0:9 to 0:7. Within a minute of the restart Niall scored another great point before Mohill again pulled one back, it was not until the 43rd Minute that the game swung back to Ballinamore with Niall grabbing a very important goal after a Wayne free came back of the upright. Mohill were not to be denied and added a couple of impressive points of their own before Ballinamore scored three massive points each better than the last, first up was Wayne with a free, followed by Niall again after great run by Brian Leydon and again Niall with another impressive score, this left the score at 1:13 to 10 going into the last 5 minutes. Mohill grabbed another two points before Paddy grabbed the final point of the game to leave the final score Ballinamore 1:14 Mohill 0:12

Well done to all the lads hey put in a great performance all over the pitch

Oughteragh Gaels

Oughteragh Ladies reach the Championship Final!

Congratulations to our ladies team who will contest this year’s Intermediate Championship Final against Mohill on September 10th following a brilliant win over St Frances’ in Bornacoola. We eventually emerged as 3-11 to 2-10 victors in what was an enthralling game throughout but had to battle back from a 5 point deficit at half-time and the attitude on show was nothing short of exceptional. September will be a big month for the club with two finals on the way and anyone who is available to come out and support on either date, please do so.

Team: Lisa Maguire, Leanne McGrath, Ciara O’Dowd, Abbi Sweeney, Aoibheann Flynn, Kirby Gilgunn, Katie Duignan, Eilish O’Dowd, Roisin McHugh (0-7), Emma McGovern (1-1), Laura O’Dowd (1-2), Maeve Hamill, Siobhan Earley (1-1), Mary McNulty, Ciara McGoldrick.

Subs Used: Aoibhin McGoldrick, Leighanne Flynn.

Under 13 Boys

SOH U13 Boys suffered defeat in rain soaked Annaduff on a score line of 5:10 to 3:12. In a well matched game both sides served up a classic with the O’Heslins lads despite a valiant effort unlucky to lose out. Great credit to both sides in a hard fought encounter with both sets of players giving their all. Squad:
Adam Kaminski , Akin Talabi , Micheal O’Brien, Dara Gavin , Killian Maguire, Colm Gartland Tommy Smith, Cian McGovern, Sam Cullen, Liam Reynolds, Dylan Reynolds, Paul Moran, Thomas Brady, Eoin Connaughton, Oisin McCarty, Cathal McCarty, Gavin D’Arcy, Naoise McManus, Paul Honeyman, Brian Sweeney.

*Senior Championship*
Having already secured a place in this year’s quarter finals the lads are again in action in Cloone, this time on Saturday at 19:00 where they face Mohill, hopefully the lads can continue their fine form and cement their place at the top of the group with a victory. Hopefully as many of you as possible can make the trip to Cloone to cheer them on.
*Rose of Tralee*
A big well done to our Leitrim Rose Erin Moran, Erin has been a brilliant ambassador for Leitrim and Ballinamore and has been an inspiration to everyone she has met during her time as a rose. She is certainly a winner in our eyes and everyone in Ballinamore and Leitrim are very proud of her and she will always be a winner in our eyes.

Massive well done to all of our U16’s who got their 11/13-a-side Championship off to a winning start with a three point win over Keeldra Gaels. In what was a fiercely contested game throughout, the only thing that separated the teams was a last second penalty and the players on both sides are a credit to their clubs for putting on such a brilliantly exciting display of football. There were too many standout performers to name and hopefully the trend continues in our next match! That is set to be this Sunday at 11am vs Drumkeerin – venue to be confirmed.
Team: Erin Keegan, Emma Honeyman, Siobhan Flynn, Mollie Murphy, Abbi Sweeney, Megan McGovern (1-1), Laoise Moran King (1-1), Grainne Prior (0-1), Niamh Donohoe (0-2), Eadaoin Murphy (1-2), Michaela Harte (1-0).

*Ballinamore Festival Blitz*
A big thank you to all the Clubs, players, parents and mentors for making the Ballinamore festival blitz a great success. We had teams, from Garadice Gaels, Fenagh, Kiltubrid at u8 and u10 with both mixed, boys and girls teams taking part. Special thanks to the local gardai for sponsoring the medals
*Minor Ladies make a winning Championship start!*
Congratulations to the Sean O’Heslin’s minor girls, who are amalgamated with St Joseph’s, on their 5-12 to 5-4 victory over Carrick-Annaduff yesterday evening. It was a tight game throughout but a couple of goals inside the final ten minutes from Emma McGovern and Megan O’Rourke – who scored an impressive 2-4 apiece – ensured a winning start to this season’s Championship. It was a brilliant performance and especially from our U14 All-Ireland Champions, Emma Honeyman, Megan McGovern, Mollie Murphy and Niamh Donohoe, who made their debuts at minor level. The future is bright!

Connacht Gold Senior Championship

It was another good performance by the seniors in Cloone this time against Aughawillian our old adversaries. Having won our first two championship games, it was certainly another important match especially when it’s our long-term adversaries and neighbours, victory would ensure our quarterfinal berth and banish memories of the league defeat. The lads started well playing some excellent football with no shortage of skill and power. The high tempo start from the lads was to much for Aughawillan and in the space of the opening 10 minutes we were leading by a score of 1:4 to no score, with Niall McGovern scoring a cracking goal, Ballinamore continued to push forward winning the majority of knockdowns and 50/50 balls with their controlled football leading to another excellent goal this time for Paddy. The good football was to continue and the lads went in at half time leading by 2:08 to 0:3. The second half started differently with a renewed Aughawillan taking to the field and showing why they were county champions , they went on to kick 5 unanswered scores at the start and were certainly much improved on the first half. Keelan McHugh grabbed an important third goal for Ballinamore and the game ended with a great victory by a score of 3:11 to 0:13

Pyramid Bookmakers Junior A Club Championship

Our Junior A lads also put in a great performance at the weekend beating Kiltubrid by a score of 2:17 to 3:08

Ballinamore Festival

Well done to Aobhinne Boyle and the u14 Girls Leitrim Team who officially opened this year Family festival on Sunday gone. The rain stayed away and they helped launch this years packed calendar which includes a number of GAA related events such as the over 40’s football which should give the youngsters a glimpse of some of the stars of the past and the Childrens Blitz which is on this Thursday at 1600. One of the new events this year was Ballinamore Ninja style which was on Monday night and had teams from all the local GAA clubs taking part in a very fun and exciting event- there will be more heats over the coming week and this mini county championship is not to be missed. Special thanks must be given to the festival committee and all the organisers who give up their time to organise this brilliant week of entertainment and we would like to thank them all

Well Done

Connacht Gold Senior Championship

It was another good performance by the seniors in Cloone this time against Gortletteragh. Having won our first championship game last week, it was certainly another important match and one we needed to win with the games coming thick and fast. The lads started well with Niall McGovern ending the game with an impressive 2:07, and the lads went in at half time leading by 2:10 to 0:4, the good form continued in the second half with the final score 3:20 to 0:9. It was a good performance all round and good preparation for this Fridays game against Aughawillian. The Willies will certainly offer a sterner test, and after our loss in the league to them it will certainly be one the lads are up for, a great game instore and one not to be missed. Hopefully as many of you as possible will make their way to Cloone to cheer the lads to victory.
Next up for the lads is Aughawillian at 20:30 on Friday in Cloone

Pyramid Bookmakers Junior B Club Championship

Our Junior B lads started their championship campaign on Saturday against Bornacoola and despite a good performance they lost by a point. The final score was 1:13 to 1:12, hopefully the lads will get the win they deserve in their next outing

Well Done

Well done to our u16 boys who played in the Bryan Cullen invitational tournament on Sunday. The lads played very well and only lost out in the Semi finals to Corofin having beaten Clane from Kildare and Dr. Crokes of Kerry in the group stages. The lads certainly showed that there is no shortage of skill or guile in Leitrim football at an underage level. Many thanks to Bryan Cullen and Skerries GAA for hosting this very well ran and fantastic event, special thanks also to the players, mentors, management and parents for giving up their time to make it all happen

U13 Boys

SOH U13 Boys suffered their first championship loss away to Leitrim Gaels last week. In a dogged affair the SOH lads finished on the wrong side of a 4:10 to 1:14 score line.
