U17’s – Hard luck to St. Joseph’s U17’s who were defeated by an outstanding St. Mary’s team in the championship semi final on Sunday evening in Carrick. Playing with wind advantage in the first half, our lads competed admirably against a much physically stronger St. Mary’s outfit, however, in the second half our opponents turned the screw and ran out comprehensive winners.
U13’s –  St Joseph’s U13s played Dromahaire away on Thursday evening. In what was a well contested game between two evenly matched teams St Joseph’s playing with wind advantage led at halftime on a scoreline of St Joseph’s 1-11 Dromahaire 2-2. Going into the final stretch our lads were leading by 4 points but the concession of two goals in quick succession changed the complexion of the game and Dromahaire ran out winners on a final scoreline of St Joseph’s 2-13 Dromahaire 6-3. Hard luck lads but hopefully some lessons learned. The next game is against Manorhamilton on Monday with the winners of the game to play Dromahaire in the shield final.

U9’s – St. Joseph’s U9’s made the short journey to Drumreilly last Saturday morning to take on Garadice Gaels in an U9 blitz. Well done to all players who participated and to our hosts for organising

U13’s – St Joseph’s U13s played St Mary’s in the latest round of the championship in Carrigallen on Thursday evening. In a closely contested first half St Joseph’s acquitted themselves well and were a bit unlucky to be trailing at half time on a scoreline of St Joseph’s 0-06 St Mary’s 2-06. The second half saw St Mary’s pull away to record a comfortable win on a final  scoreline of St Joseph’s 1-09 St Mary’s 6-10. While it was disappointing to lose another game it was encouraging to see the St Joseph’s lads kept trying their best to the end and hopefully they will put in positive performances in the remaining games.
U17’s – Well done to St. Joseph’s U17’s who recorded a good win over Leitrim Gaels in their final group stage game played in Aughavas last Monday evening. This leaves us with a good chance of reaching the semi final stage depending on other results this week. Best wishes to St. Joseph’s player Jordan Cowell who sustained a bad ankle injury during the game.
U9’s – Well done to the U9’s who hosted Fenagh last Saturday in Carrigallen and played so well. We play Garadice Gaels in our next blitz this Saturday in Drumreilly at 10am.
Well done to our intermediate Team on their win over Eslin on Sunday. And good luck to our Juniors on Saturday in the quarter final in Carrick against Melvin Gaels.
U13’s – St Josephs U13s travelled to Annaduff on Thursday evening to take on the home team in the latest round of the U13 championship. The first half was a closely fought contest with St Josephs in front for the majority but the concession of two goals just before half time meant the sides went in at half time on a scoreline of Annaduff 2-03 St Josephs 1-5. That was as good as it got got our lads as they didnt turn up at all for the second half as Annaduff took over and ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of Annaduff 4-09 St Josephs 1-06. Well done to Annaduff and hopefully we will see an improved performance from St Josephs in the next fixture.

U13’s – St Joseph’s U13s played a strong Leitrim  Gaels team in Aughavas on Thursday evening. Despite playing well in patches St Josephs trailed at half-time on a scoreline of Leitrim Gaels 4-04 St Josephs 1-04. A poor start to the second half by St Josephs saw Leitrim Gaels extend their lead further and in the end they were full value for the win on a final scoreline of Leitrim Gaels 6-12 St Josephs 1-10. Well done to Leitrim Gaels and hard luck to the St Josephs lads who showed glimpses of what they are capable of but lacked consistency over the course of the game.

Barna Recycling U13’s – St Joseph’s U13s played Mohill on Thursday evening in the second round of the championship. It was a disappointing outing for the St Joseph’s lads against a talented Mohill side. The scoreline at halftime read Mohill 4-4 St Josephs 2-2. A goal after the break for St Josephs narrowed the deficit and ìt looked like we might be able to close the gap but a brilliant save from the Mohill goalie to deny us another goal was the turning point as Mohill went on to dominate the remainder of the match-winning out on a final score of Mohill 7-11 St Josephs 3-2. Lots of room for improvement for St Joseph’s before they take on their next opponents which will be Leitrim Gaels.

Newtowngore Engineering U17’s – Our U17’s were away to Sean O’Heslin’s on Monday last. After a blistering start, in which we led by 3-01 to 0-01, a much fitter Ballinamore team worked their way back into the game and ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-04. Our next game is a home game against Leitrim Gaels. Please support

In the first game, we were left to rue some missed chances as two late goals from our opponents Cavan Gaels handed them a four point winning margin. The second game saw St Josephs gain a win against Gowna. We needed a win in our final group game to progress to the next stage of the tournament but came up against a stronger Ardara team from Donegal who won comfortably. Thanks to the Gowna club for the invitation. The U13 championship kicks off on Thursday evening against Glencar Manor in Carrigallen at 7pm.

U12 – St Joseph’s U12s played two rounds of the Longford/Leitrim league this week. The first game took place in Aughavas against Grattan Gaels on Monday evening. At halftime St Joseph’s were trailing by four points but they put in a very determined performance in the second half to go into the lead and seemed to be heading for victory but unfortunately a late flurry of goals from their opponents in the last five minutes meant that they lost out on a final scoreline of St Joseph’s 5-07 Grattan Gaels 6-08. This was a  heartbreaking defeat for St Josephs who had the win snatched from their grasp in the dying minutes of the game. Hopefully, a harsh lesson learned. On Thursday evening, we travelled to Newtowncashel to take on Southern Gaels. Playing against the strong breeze in the first half the St Joseph’s defence put in a determined showing in the first twenty minutes to only trail by a point at that stage, but unfortunately their resistance cracked as the half wore on and the concession of a few soft scores left our lads trailing by 3-04 to 0-03 at halftime. With the wind advantage, a good start to the second half was required but St Joseph’s never got going and Southern Gaels won out comfortably on a final scoreline of 6-11 to 1-05. We round off our games in the competition with an away game against Colmcille on Thursday evening.

The teams were tied at halftime but in the second half St Brigids gradually began to dominate and with the help of two late goals in quick succession won out on a final scoreline of St Josephs 3-12 St Brigids 5-14. It was a much-improved performance from St Josephs but St Brigid’s were deserving winners. The schoolboy’s team took part in the Turlough Conefrey Memorial Tournament on Sunday where we lost to Aughavas and had a win against Cloone. Well done to the Aughavas lads who had a good win against Gortletteragh in the final.

The next opponents were a skillful Granard side who made our lads pay for the concession of two soft goals in the first half and who ran out winners by 5 points. The final opponents in the group were Ardagh and the lads put in their best performance of the day to win by a comfortable margin. This meant we were into the Cup quarter-finals where we come up against a strong Mullahoran team who proved too strong for our lads despite a much improved second half display. Thanks to Colmcille for the invitation and congratulations on organising such a well run competition which was enjoyed by all present.
