Comhbrón – The Club extends their deepest sympathies to the Heaney family, Cattan, and the wider Heaney family on the passing of Seán Heaney last week. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Leitrim Update – Jack Heslin is currently representing us on the Leitrim Senior Panel as they work their way through the FBD League campaign in advance of their National League opener against Antrim in a few weeks time.

T.P. REYNOLDS RIP – It was with great sadness the club heard that T.P. Reynolds, Fearglass, passed away on Friday 29th December 2017, following a short illness at Our Lady’s Manor Nursing Home, Edgeworthstown .

T.P. and his family are steeped in the history of Gortletteragh GAA.  His father Hubert played for the club in the 20’s and 30’s.  His sons Hubie, Joe and Desmond played for the club through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, while his grandchildren Eamon, John, Ciaran and Leona currently play for the club.  His grand-daughter Lorraine has served as club Physio on many occasions.

T.P. starred with the club for many years, mostly at centre halfback where he was known as a strong, tough but fair opponent.  He was centre halfback on the Junior A team who ended a 40-year trophy-less spell for the club when they won the League in 1949.  T.P. wore the No. 6 jersey when they won the League again in 1958.  He won a Senior League with Cloone in 1952 when Gortletteragh didn’t field a team.

After T.P. finished playing, he was a constant presence at matches, supporting his club all the way.  At the time of his death, T.P. was a President of the Club and had been for many years.  The large number of Club players and members who took part in a Guard of Honour at his Funeral in Fearglass showed the esteem in which he and his family are held in the community.

The Club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to his wife Maura, daughter Miriam, sons Hubie, Joe and Desmond, daughter-in-law Una, son-in-law Michael, (two more great Gortletteragh supporters), grandchildren Lorraine, Claire, Eamon, John, Ciaran and Leona, brother-in-law Eamon, sisters-in-law Catherine and Maud, neighbours and friends.

Christmas Santa’s vs Elves – The Santas and the Elves served up a thriller on St Stephen’s day. The proverbial game of two halves was played out, after a strong start from the Elves the Santas regrouped and turned in a good second half performance to force a penaltyshootoutt at the end. Well done to all the players young and not so young who turned out on the day. €1750 was raised for the University Hospital Galway Oncology Patient Comfort Fund, a very worthy cause. Thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting the event.

All support much appreciated.

Under 21 Final – Fenagh Gortletteragh took the field for the fourth year in a row in the Under 21 A Final hoping to cap the year off with a trophy. Old rivals St Manchan’s were the opposition and thanks to a fisted goal by Keith Beirne they held sway at halftime. The lads threatened to mount their trademark comeback when Riordan O’Rourke goaled late on but despite some last-gasp efforts, Manachan’s held on for a 1-11 to 1-08 win and disappointment for our lads. Having lost the last three finals in the grade was a blow but these lads have shown remarkable grit and have a never say die attitude that was evident in Pairc Seán last weekend. They are a credit to their families and their clubs and no doubt they will be back again as they continue their careers with club and county. Well done to the entire panel for their efforts and to their mentors Tom, Bobby, Sean and Paul.

SANTAS vs ELVES – A brilliant festive football spectacle is down for decision in Gortletteragh GAA grounds on St Stephens Day as a team of Santas take on their Elf counterparts. Following the success of last year’s big match where the Santas emerged victorious following a penalty shootout, the Elves are ready to reclaim bragging rights for 2018.  Players of past and present are welcome to take sides in the battle and join in on the day. Throw in is at 2pm. Admission is optional. All proceeds go towards University Hospital Galway Oncology Unit. All parishioners are encouraged to come along and show their support.

Nollaig Shona – We would like to wish all players, supporters, parishioners, sponsors, and anybody connected with the club whether at home or away a very happy Christmas and peaceful, prosperous New Year.

AGM – The AGM was held on Saturday with a good crowd in attendance. Darren gave a comprehensive review of the year both on and off the field. Colum’s treasurers report detailed all the clubs finances for the year. The club facilities development was outlined also and is now progressing following a long year of planning and preparation. All officers were returned for 2018 with Padraig Gallagher being elected the Health and Wellness officer. The position of PRO is currently vacant and will need to be filled early in the New Year.

U21 Final – The refixed U21 final will take place this Saturday at 2.30 in Pairs Sean. Time and venue is subject to change so check club facebook for details.

Santas vs Elves 2: St Stephens Day – The Santas & Elves will be filling up on turkey and trifle and going at it again on St Stephens Day in a Charity contest for the ages. Throw in at 2 pm and anyone interested in donning a beard or elf ears and togging out is welcome.
AGM – Our AGM takes place this Saturday the 9th December at 8pm in the Community Centre. All welcome.

U21 Final – Fenagh Gortletteragh are back in the U21 final after a barnstorming second-half performance secured them the win over Ballinamore SOH at the weekend in a game of two halves.  Throw in is 2 pm Sunday in Pairc Sean so come out and support the lads against neighbours St Manachans in what will be the last ever U21 final before it’s regraded to U20.
AGM – AGM takes place Sat 9th Dec in the Community Centre @ 8pm. Nominations for positions and motions for discussion to be emailed to the Secretary at secretary.gortletteragh.Leitrim@gaa.ie no later than Wed 6th December. All are welcome.

U21 – Last week’s U21 game vs St Manachans fell foul of the weather conditions, this weekend the lads are away to Ballinamore SOH on Saturday afternoon, throw in 12.00 noon, time subject to change.

The Cavan Curse – We’d like to thank Seamus O’Rourke and his team for a very enjoyable night and everyone who came and supported it on the night. The night was a great success and the positive feedback we’ve received since the play, a real reflection of how entertaining the play is & how the brilliant performances of Fiona Fitzpatrick and the well known Seamus O’Rourke really were. Thanks to the traffic stewards, the people who helped out with refreshments, tickets sellers for the raffle, and all the local businesses who generously sponsored spot prizes on the night, also all who laid out the chairs and helped to tidy up after the play. Thanks to Bornacoola for the loan of extra chairs for the night.
