Charity match – Thank you to everyone to supported our charity game on St Stephens day. Thanks to all the players who turned out. We will confirm the total raised next week. All proceeds are going to SHOUT, the oncology ward at Sligo University Hospital.

Greetings – We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and are enjoying the festive season. We wish all our supporters, players, members and friends a happy New year. Thanks for all your support during the year. We look forward to your continued support in 2019. It’s much appreciated.

Wedding Bells – Congratulations to former club player Philip Mcgourty who married Deborah Gilheaney last week. We wish you both a long life of health and happiness together. We also hope to see Philip back in the Glera colours in the future and maybe Deborah in the St Francis colours.

Sympathy – The club wishes to sympathise sincerely with Colm Maguire and the O Donnell family, Corry, on the death of Nancy O Donnell. May she rest in peace.

Big Gaels GAA Night – Melvin Gaels big fundraising night on Saturday January 12th in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran, “The Harte of the Matter”, will feature special guests, Mickey Harte, Aiden  O’Mahoney, Caroline Currid, Rory Gallagher and Brian Mc Eniff and others and will explore and delve into the GAA in the past, the present and the future. There will be a huge raffle which will include signed county jerseys from Leitrim, Donegal, Tyrone, Sligo, Kerry and much much more! While it’s a fundraiser for the community pitch and ongoing club costs it’s an event that any GAA fan may like to attend. Let’s all make this a night to remember for the town and the surrounding areas. The event will be hosted by Colin Regan.

Presentation of medals to the Melvin Gaels Under 20 County Championship winning team will take place on the night and any player due to get a medal is asked to contact Club Chairman, Liam Freeburn at 086 3882077 to arrange tickets at a reduced rate.

Tickets are, Adults €15, Under 16s €5 and are now on sale in McGowans Spar, Kinlough and at reception at The Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran.

New Development Project – Many people from the locality and further afield have supported the Community   Development Project at the Community Centre, Melvin Park and Dressing rooms, which is well underway. Any Kinlough people travelling home at Christmas will see that Melvin Park has changed a lot. The Committee is appealing to anyone who has yet to support the development to try to help, by joining the draw or sponsoring in any way.  A lot of money is needed to complete the project which will be very impressive when completed and will be a huge benefit to all the Community.

The fundraising involves “Make Your Mark on Melvin Park” for €100 which will represent a square of Melvin Park, entry into a draw, prizes 5x €1000, and your name on a commemorative plaque. Start Walking – The Club is asking everyone, young and not so young, to come along and get fit and healthy and also take part in a great social activity. The lights will be on at the Training Pitch every evening from 4pm to 9pm as a Health Initiative so that the Community can make use of them on the dark evenings.

Underage Presentation – The underage presentation of medals to the Under 13, 15 and 17 teams will take place on Saturday in the clubhouse. The medal will be presented by Aidan Flynn and Colm Moreton. All are welcome.

Membership – Membership is now due and there will be a registration weekend coming up. All members paid up before 31st March 2019 will have full voting rights. Adult Players €60, Under 13 up to Student Adult Player €40, Under 11 down €20 plus €2 per session. Familly (2 Adults and 2 Kids or more) €100. Non Playing Adult €25.

Pitch Closure – The community field pitch and training area is closed until further notice to allow for maintenance work to be carried out.

National Draw – The National draw tickets are on sale locally, they cost €10 each with fantastic prizes. This is one of our main Fundraising events and all proceeds goes towards the cost of running the club. We very much appreciate your support.

Sympathy – The club wishes to extend their deepest sympathy to the Mulvey Family, Kiltoughert on the sad passing of Brian. We also offer our condolences to Bridget Moreton Ballygart on the sad passing of her uncle Charlie O Rourke, Aughavas. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.

Club Christmas Table Quiz – A great night was had by all at our annual Christmas Club Table Quiz in Gurns last Sunday night. Many thanks to everyone who supported, to Hugh McGurrin for organising and setting the questions, Brian Kerrigan our Quizmaster, Mary McGurrin and Phil Flynn for correcting and finally our host Felim Gurn.

Old Club Jerseys – We are looking for people to search out their wardrobes, garages and attics in search of old club jerseys which were used by our adult and juvenile football and hurling teams in the club (male and female) in the following decades – the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s.  They are needed for our 50th club celebrations.  Please contact Collette Fox asap on 0866020192 if you can assist.

Heinz Beans Tokens – We are asking our club members and all underage parents to collect Heinz Beans tokens. If we have enough tokens our underage boys and girls teams could benefit with sports kits. The closing date is the 15th February, 2019.

Ladies Club History – In preparation for our club’s 50th anniversary in 2019, the ladies club are looking to dig out all old photos, match programmes, newspaper clippings or any other club memorabilia to help prepare a detailed history of the history of the ladies club. We are also trying to compile the names of all club officers/managers/club award winners since the club was formed – so if you were an officer/manager/award winner – please forward any information you can.  Please email any correspondence you have to glencarmanorladies@gmail.com.

Club Christmas Table Quiz – We are hosting our annual Christmas Club Table Quiz this coming Sunday, December 30th at 9pm in Gurns.  This is always a great opportunity to meet up with friends who are home for the Christmas.  €20 per table of 4 and as always your support would be greatly appreciated.

Lotto – Our Lotto draw took place in SuperValu on Sunday the 23rd December.  Numbers drawn 6, 19, 24, 25.   There was no winner of the Jackpot of €4,750.  The five winners of €30 were Berni Poniard (Donaghmore) – yearly ticket, Enda Fox (Deerpark), Oliver Lee (Fallacarra), Austin Nealon (Manorhamilton) and Clodagh Gaffney (Gortinar). Christmas Draw – Our Christmas Hamper Draw took place in SuperValu on Sunday 23rd December.  The winner of the hamper was Barry Burke, the three winners of runner up prizes were Micky Weissmann, Amy O’Hagan and Kathleen O’Callaghan. Club Academy – Santa made his annual visit to our club academy last Friday night in the Gym at St Clare’s Comprehensive School.  It was a great occasion for all the children and their families with excitement levels at fever-pitch.  As a small token of recognition for all their hard work all season each child received a small gift from Santa.   We take this opportunity to again thank the children for their dedication and exemplary behaviour all season and all our volunteer coaches for giving freely of their time week in week out to nurture our underage talent.

Match for Mark – The annual Match for Mark game between St Mary’s of Sligo and Glencar/Manorhamilton took place for the 3rd successive year on St Stephen’s Day in Kent Park, Sligo.  Our U10 teams and ladies and mens adult teams all took part with all proceeds going to North West Hospice.  It was a great family occasion as two great clubs came together to raise much needed funds for charity by remembering a great friend and teammate.

Walk for Lorraine: There is a memorial walk in memory of Lorraine Lynch taking place on St. Stephens Day. Registration from 11.30am in the Mayflower  and proceeds are in aid of Temple Street Childrens Hospital foundation and Romeo Baginski who suffers from muscular atrophy. Please support

SEAN KIERNAN MEMORIAL CUP – St Stephen’s day charity match with our U30’s playing our over U30’s for the Sean Kiernan Memorial Cup will take place at 2pm.  Can all players to be there by 1:40pm.  Please come out to support as monies received going to charity. Refreshments served.

CONGRATULATIONS – Congratulations to Aughavas GAA member Carmel McCartin Redican’s husband Sean who was honoured with the Joe McInerney Award by Leitrim New York GAA & Leitrim NY Ladies GAA. Well done Sean.
