Westlink Coaches U-15 Boys – The boys played their hearts out on Friday evening in Pairc Sean in the 15 aside league final only to come up short against Mohill. After a terrible start where Mohill netted twice in the opening minutes & missed a couple of other goal chances early on the lads settled and worked their way back into the game. Points from Arik Oberwan, Ciaran McMorrow (2) & Mark Reynolds stemmed the flow before we struck for 2 goals ourselves from Ciaran with a fortunate long-range effort and Radek Oberwan after a super pass from Shane McKeon. Ciaran added a free and remarkably we led 2-05 to 2-03 at the break. Unfortunately, Mohill struck twice for goals early in the second half after high balls into the square broke for them. Radek added a point & converted a penalty, Ciaran scored from play and Rory O’Donnell made a brilliant save to deny another goal as Conor Flood hit our last point late on but Mohill ran out deserving winners. Overall this was a very encouraging performance from the team who have grown throughout the league and with the return of Sean Lynch, injured in the semi-final and Ronan Moran, unavailable last week, the lads can look forward to putting it up to this fine Mohill side in the championship. Well done to the whole squad and to coaches Farrell McKeon & Angus Fee.

Dunnes Bar Division 2 – We lost to Bornacoola on Saturday evening in a downpour in Ballinaglera on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-06. We trailed 0-05 to 0-02 at the break after missing a host of chances especially in the opening quarter. Despite the lads best efforts we missed 2 great goal opportunities in the second half to close the gap and Bornacoola added 3 points in injury time to secure the points. Nicholas Moore was our only scorer on the night with 4 frees & 2 from play which tells its own story. Although understrength this was a sloppy performance and there is lots to work on in the coming weeks.

Thanks – A big thank you to our neighbours Ballinaglera for the use of their pitch on Saturday evening. A special word of congratulations to the club on the installation of the new electronic scoreboard which even though it didn’t make good reading for us at the weekend is a great addition to the grounds so well done to all concerned.

Division 1  – Our senior men’s team played Saturday against Ballinaglera on Saturday evening. Final score was 1-08 to 1-08. After a slow start the lads were 1-05 to 0-02 down after about 20 minutes and were also down to 14 men. Just before half time the score was 1-05 to 1-03 after an important goal from James Gallagher (Creevelea). In tough conditions and with one man less for so long the team managed to level it and create some chances to win it. Even in the extremely wet conditions there was great support that helped lift the team, the team are unbeaten this year at home after three games. The teams will meet again in the Championship in late August. The league has another break now until the 30th of June when the team will be away to Mohill.

Division 3 – This Sunday, June the 10th, 12pm the team will be away to Eslin. It’s their third last game of the year and should be a good game. Best of luck to all involved and making the trip up.

Cumann na mBunscoil – well done to the teams and managers on getting to their shield finals that took place last week in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. Drumkeeran NS, Tarmon NS and St Hughs Dowra NS all turned out very well.

Division 2 – The form of the Senior team continues its upward trajectory as they made it three wins in a row when defeating table-toppers Allen Gaels in Ballinaglera on Saturday evening last. The Gaels began the game at a blistering pace and completely dominated the first 15 minutes; however their dominance in possession only yielded two points and the Bors slowly gained a foothold in the game to lead by 0-5 to 0-2 at halftime, against the run of play. However, Bornacoola were the better team in the second half and thanks to some excellent scores from Damian Moran and Sean Mc Keon in particular as well as a great display between the posts from goalkeeper Conor Hackett, they fought their way to a 0-13 to 0-6 victory. Team on duty was Conor Hackett, Brian Duffy, Jason Conroy, Kevin Mulligan, David Mulligan, Conor Mc Cauley, Liam Mulligan, Gary Mc Closkey, Allan Croghan (0-1), Kevin Shanley (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (0-3), Ronan Mulligan (0-1), Ollie Vaughan, Damian Moran (0-6) and Michael Duignan. Subs used were Brian Conroy (0-1), Liam Jones, Philip Howard, Damien Mc Guinness and Roy Keenan.

It’s also this groups first time to play at 13 a side and in a competitive game. On Thursday, in what was a very entertaining game from start to finish with both teams moving to the front on different occasions it was Gortletteragh who ran out eventual winners on a score of Bornacoola 6-10 Gortletteragh 10-7.  National Schools Final – Bornacoola NS Girls turned in a magnificent performance in their Shield Final with Aughavas NS on Tuesday evening but at the end of a most exciting encounter they just came out on the wrong side, suffering a two point loss. The Cumann na mBunscol final was played out in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada in 26° heat but that didn’t deter the girls as they went about their business in impressive fashion. Level at the break it was all to play for but two late goals for the Aughavas girls swung the verdict in their favour. Our girls can nonetheless be very proud of their performance as they displayed great determination and teamwork and will have many better days to look forward to if they continue their rate of improvement which has been most noteworthy thus far. Well done to all the coaches at both Bornacoola NS and Bornacoola GAA Club who have contributed yo the improvement in these girls performance levels. Needless to say, a massive well done to Emma Donelan, Megan Molloy, Grace Donlon, Jolie Lyons, Katelyn Boyle, Eimear Healy, Fiona Mulligan, Elana Kilrane, Orla Hackett, Blanaid Reynolds, Elly Conboy, Hannah Costello and Grace Duignan who formed this year’s school panel.
