Leitrim NY v Kiltubrid- We’re delighted to announce that Kiltubrid will take on the Leitrim NY Club on Saturday 5th May in Gaelic Park at 6pm in a curtain raiser to the Main Event on the Sunday.  This will be a great chance for Kiltubrid and Leitrim ExPats alike to see their home Club in action in this Novel Encounter. No doubt we will see lots of familiar ExPat faces at the game with a chance to don their Green and Red colours in their adopted Home.

Underage – Underage Training returned with gusto on Saturday 24th of March for the Un9 and Un11 boys, such was the level of commitment that training has been extended to include Thursday evenings also.  The Un7 and Nursery were in action on Saturday morning last 14th April, our most junior players putting in wonderful efforts and showing the spirit and future of the club is in safe hands. We welcome new players in any age group and encourage all boys & girls to have a go!  Fun and inclusivity for all, Learn new skills, improve hand eye coordination, Large Motor skills, Balance and Agility. Come along next Saturday morning 21st April at 10am, you can register on the day. Please ensure your child has a gum shield, water bottle and weather appropriate clothing.  All parents must supervise nursery and u7 players. Thank You to all our coaches for their time and efforts.

Dunnes Bar Div 2 – Defeat at home to an impressive Annaduff side last Saturday in Pairc Chill Tiobraid ended the lads 100% League Start for 2018.  There is now a break in action for a few weeks until after the Leitrim v New York Connacht Championship opener.

Swan Bar Div 4 – Our Junior team face Mohill at 7pm on Saturday 21st April in Pairc Chill Tiobraid.

Championship Draws – The Draw for the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships 2018 were held on Monday night in the Bush Hotel.  In the Smith’s Monuments Intermediate Championship Group 1 we’ve been drawn alongside Carrigallen, Annaduff, Eslin, Mohill and Sean O’Heslin’s.  In the Pyramid Bookmakers Junior Championship Group 1 we’ve been drawn alongside St Mary’s, Mohill and Annaduff.

U13 Boys – The League Campaign ended for the Un13 Boys with defeat away to Allen Gaels.  Concentration now turns to Championship later in the year for these developing players.  Well done to all Players, Mentors & Parents for their efforts.

Schools – Drumcong NS Boys team open their 2018 campaign in Division 2 away to Ballinamore NS on Monday 23rd April at 6.30pm. Best of luck to Players and Mentors.

National Spring Clean – It is that time of year when we all carry out a Spring Clean. Kiltubrid GAA in association with Leitrim Co. Council is carrying out a Spring Clean in the local area to tackle the problem of litter in our community and specifically roadside litter.  We are calling all volunteers in the community to meet at Kiltubrid GAA Park on Saturday Morning 28th April to donate a small amount of their time and energy for this cause. Madrid – Well done to Kiltubrid Ladies who won the Madrid Harps Invitational Tournament last weekend in Sunny Madrid.  Great to see former Kiltubrid GAA Player Kieran Lynch donning his Madrid Harps jersey over the weekend in his adopted home in Spain.

Scór Sinsir – Well done to Aughnasheelin and Bornacoola who represented Leitrim & Connacht in the All-Ireland Scór Sinsir last weekend in Sligo.  Unfortunately no titles were secured but a great achievement for both club nonetheless.

Sympathy – The Club extends our sympathies to the Reynolds family Cornabrone following the passing of Ena Reynolds and to the Reynolds family Bornacoola on the passing of Shay Reynolds.

2018 Kelloggs Cúl Camps – Registration for Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps 2018 is currently underway online via the website, https://www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie/booking/ Please note: The online booking facility will close at noon on the Wednesday preceding the week of the camps. Please be aware that Registrations will NOT be accepted on the first morning of camp. The only method of registration will be via the online system. This year an additional option to have your kit delivered to your home is available at registration at a cost of €7.50 per delivery. Leitrim GAA will again this year, deliver kits to the Primary schools for bookings made by Thursday, May 31st.

 

Weekends Results – in the first of the games played over the weekend there was disappointment when our u13 team suffered defeat in the 13 a side League final on a scoreline of Fenagh St Caillins 0-09, Annaduff 4-08. Congratulations to Annaduff. Match report elsewhere in this paper. The other two games played resulted in two victories for the Fenagh St Caillins men. In Div 1 we overcame Ballinaglera to win our first game of this years league, final score Fenagh St Caillins 3-07, Ballinaglera 0-10. Then on Sunday morning in Div 3 we had a win over Aughawillan by a scoreline of Fenagh St Caillins 1-14, Aughawillan 0-15.

Fixtures – Tuesday last u17’s played Mohill in the Shield semi-final, check Facebook/Twitter for result. On Saturday evening next in Div 3 we travel to take on Aughavas with throw in at 7pm.
Intermediate C’ship 2018 – the draws have been made for this year’s Championships and we have been drawn to play Ballinaglera, Cloone, Aughavas, Leitrim Gaels and Drumkeeran in Intermediate.
Lotto results – draw took place on Sunday night last in Quinn’s Bar. Numbers drawn were 8, 2, 1, 6, 4, 3, 7, 5. The jackpot was €2400, there was no winner. €20 winners on the night were Shane Greenan, Mickey Eddie Heeran and John Leddy while the yearly lotto ticket winner of €20 was Johnny Doonan. Fundraiser – Fenagh Drama Troupe will perform The Maiden Aunt, one more time. This is a hilarious 3 Act Comedy written by Jimmy Keary. The show is in Fenagh Community Centre on Saturday 21st April at 8:30pm, Doors open at 7:30pm. Admission is €10. Please note that all funds collected will go to the Irish Guide Dogs and Fenagh Defibrillator.

Division 1 –  Hard luck to the Senior team who were defeated by Glencar/Manorhamilton last weekend. Score: Aughawillan 16 points, Glencar/Manorhamilton 2-15.

Division 3 – Hard luck to the Junior team who were narrowly defeated by Fenagh. Score: Aughawillan 15 points Fenagh 1-14. They now play St Marys at home on Saturday April 21st at 7pm.

Championship 2018 – The Championship draw took place earlier this week in the Bush Hotel. We now know who we will be facing in the Championship later this year – Group 1: Mohill, Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins, Dromahair, Aughawillan, Drumrielly, Gortletteragh. Group 2: Glencar/Manorhamilton, St Mary’s, Bornacoola, Aughnasheelin, Allen Gaels, Melvin Gaels.

Dublin – Aughawillan Sponsored Cycle – There’s just over three weeks to go to May 12th and the 150km cycle from Castleknock to Aughawillan, all our cyclists are putting in the hard yards and with longer evenings and better weather there’s no excuses!!

A big welcome to Eilis Quinn, Mick Quinn (Sean O’Heslins) and Padraig Holohan (Drumrielly) who are participating in a support role to our cycling team.

Some of our cycling team will be participating in the Smuggler’s Ring of Cuilcagh cycle on Sunday April 22nd, starting from Blake’s Derrylin at 9am. For anyone wishing to join in, entry fee is €20 and is in aid of Autism N.I.

There has been a number of fundraising events over the past two weeks. The proceeds from the Whist Drive on April 10th was donated to the Dublin-Leitrim Cycle. We’d like to thank all those who came along on the night, as well as those who brought refreshments on the night & donated spot prizes- Pat Flanagan, Pat Stringer, Morgan Quinn and Christy & Bridie McGovern. Thanks, in particular to Cathal McBrien, the kitchen staff – Michelle Dolan, AnnaMay Kelly & Rachel Dolan and to the parish committee for their support.

On April 14th the Aughawillan Diaspora & Friends night out was held in Dublin and was well attended and enjoyed by all present. Congratulations to Castleknock who had a Championship win earlier in the evening and their mentors who were present on the night.

There will be some more fundraising events over the next few weeks including a Church gate collection the weekend of April 28th/29th in both Corraleehan & Aughawillan. Each cyclist has a sponsorship card also if you wish to donate directly to the cyclist. There are details of online donations on our Facebook page.
Clothes Collection – Pat Joe McNiffe is holding a clothes collection in the weeks leading up to the Dublin-Leitrim cycle. This is a great opportunity to clear out any old clothes, shoes, boots, wellies and curtains. No duvets or pillows can be accepted. Any clothes, shoes, etc can be dropped up to McNiffe’s house at any time with thanks in advance.

A number of our cyclists will be in New York for Leitrim’s opening Championship game and no doubt will be seeking the support of the Aughawillan and Leitrim Diaspora in New York.

Division 3 Football – No Division 3 to report on last weekend but this Saturday the lads travel to Glencar Manor on Saturday evening, throw in 7.00

Championship 2018 – The Championship Draws were held in Carrick on Shannon on Monday night, and some interesting clashes were thrown up for the Senior and Junior teams. We were drawn with Mohill, Ballinamore SOH, Aughawillan, Dromahair and Drumreilly in the Senior Championship. The Juniors will face Carrigallen, Glenfarne/Kilty and Drumkeerin in the Junior A Championship

U13 Shield Final – Our U13s played in the shield final Saturday morning against Allen Gaels in Drumshanbo. After a very tough first  half Allen Gaels were in front at half time 08  to 1-02 assisted by a very strong breeze. We made a few changes and on the restart we got a goal but Allen Gaels replied with a goal of their own. We fought hard throughout the second half but we couldn’t get in front. The last 10 minutes was end to end football but Allen Gaels came out on top on a score line 3 11 – 3 07.

Congratulations – To Keeldra Gaels Ladies player Aisling Sorohan who recently picked up a Third Level Colleges All Star due to her performances at corner back for Athlone IT’s O’Connor Cup team who narrowly lost to DCU in the final. Well done on a brilliant individual achievement

Club Meeting – A Club meeting will be held in the Centre this Friday evening the 20th in the centre at 7.30. All are welcome to attend.

Comhbrón – We extend our sympathies to the Reynolds family, Bornacoola and the wider Bornacoola GAA community on the sad passing of Shay Reynolds. Shay was a true Gael who will be sadly missed by all involved in GAA in Leitrim. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
U17 Men –  Congratulations to our U17 mens team who won their league on the weekend, beating Annaduff. Final score was 5-6 (21) to 0-1 (1), Annaduff scored the first point but our boys were solid all over the pitch and once they started scoring they were hard to stop. Drumkeerin GAA would like to thank the great support the lads got over the weekend, they put on a fine show for us. We’d also like to wish the Annaduff players the best in the future and a speedy recovery to their midfielder who got injured during the game.
Senior Men – Our Senior mens team, Division 1, played Ballinamore at home this weekend. The first home outing for the lads this year they battled hard and were leading by two points at half time but the game ended in a draw when Ballinamore leveled it in injury time. Final score Drumkeerin 1-7 (10) to Ballinamore 0-10 (10). Thanks for the great support at the game, there’s a few weeks off for our first team now with a break until the second week in May.
Junior Men –  this Saturday at 7pm our Junior team, Division 3, play against Carrigallen away. Currently the two teams sit first and second in the table. Guaranteed to be a good game from the start, best of luck to all involved.
Championship Draws – the championship draws took play on Monday evening. Our Intermediates have been drawn against Leitrim Gaels, Fenagh, Cloone, Aughavas and Ballinaglera. The Juniors take on Glenfarne/Kilty, Gortletteragh and Carrigallen.
U14 Ladies – Well done to our U14 ladies on a great win last Friday vs Melvin Gaels, in Kinlough. Thanks to all who came out and supported the girls.

Dunnes Bar ACL Division 1 -The seniors were away to Drumkerrin on Saturday where they drew with the home side by a score of 0:10 to 1:07

Dunnes Bar ACL Division 2 – The match against Bornacoola was postponed due to the untimely passing of Shay Reynolds, everyone at the club would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of this wonderful GAA man.

Underage Hurling – Folks a great opportunity to learn hurling skills from one of our county star players, Zac Moradi. Zac will be coming to Ballinamore hurling club this Tuesday night and for a number of weeks there after to teach hurling skills to our underage players. The coaching is open to all players, from Ballinamore, Aughawillan GAA, Aughnasheelin Gaa, Fenagh St Caillins Gaa, and Drumreilly Gaa Zac will be coaching hurling to U10s from 4-5pm. He will then be coaching U13s from 5-6pm. All welcome. Gear will be provided as well. Please spread the word

Under 9 and Nursery – Please note training is this Wednesday at 1830 please note change of time, we will return to 1900 next Monday where we have Enda Lyons’s Leitrim Games and development officer joining us to assist progressing the nursery program further Under 9 Blitz Thanks to all the players, parents and mentors that attended the u9 blitz in Ballinamore on Saturday morning where we played against Mohill. There was four very competitive matches between the young players with no shortage of skill on display, all the players were a credit to their clubs and mentors.

Well done to our Bailead Ghrupa Sheila, Cait, Brendan, Shane and Cormac who performed magnificently at the All Ireland Scor last weekend, unfortunately it wasn’t their day.

Senior League v St Mary’s – On Saturday evening the Senior team took on St Mary’s in St Osnatt’s pitch, Glencar and secured a good win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-8. This was a good team performance and the Gaels were in control for most of the game. Well done to all the players and mentors. No joy for the Junior team in Melvin Park on Sunday when they were well beaten by a strong Allen Gaels team.

Championship Draw – In the Championship Draw, the Senior team are in Group 2 and play St Mary’s, Allen Gaels, Glencar/Manorhamilton, Bornacoola and Augnasheelin. In the Junior A Championship, the  Junior team are drawn in Group 3 and play Glencar/Manorhamilton and AllenGaels.

Kinlough Community Development Plans – A Committee has been formed, which is made up by groups who make use of the facilities at the Community Centre, Kinlough to develop the playing fields and amenities now needed in the area. Melvin Park is not able to cater for all the games taking place there at present. Phase one of these plans is a new realigned sand and soil-based playing field. The Club is part of this committee and will be involved in the major fundraising which will be needed. The Fundraising initiative will be launched on Saturday May 12th in the Community Centre. Everyone associated with the Club over the years in any way, whether as a player or non- player, at home or anywhere in the world, is asked to support these plans to make the badly needed playing facilities in Kinlough something to be proud of.  Part of the plan will involve “Make Your Mark on Melvin Park” for €100 which will represent a square of Melvin Park, entry into a draw, prizes 5x €1000, your name on a commemorative plaque.  More details in the coming weeks.

European Boxing Championships – Best of luck to our club player Dearbhla Rooney who is in Italy this week competing in the U18 Flyweight European Boxing Championships. It is a fantastic achievement for Dearbhla, her family and the Sean McDermott Boxing Club to compete at an international level and testament to their hard work and effort.

Rest in Peace Shay – Our club members were shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the passing of a great GAA friend in Shay Reynolds, Bornacoola.  Shay’s GAA allegiance, the lasting friendships he forged throughout the county and his honesty and integrity as an administrator have been recounted within our club and are an example to all.  He has left a lasting mark on all who knew him and his passing will leave a massive void.  We extend our sympathies to his beloved family, many friends and his club Bornacoola.   Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Junior Girls All Ireland – Huge disappointment for all associated with St Clare’s Comprehensive School but most especially the girls and their management team with the All Ireland Final being cancelled last Sunday when the Cork School revealed late on Friday evening they would not be able to fulfill the fixture.  All Ireland Finals don’t come around too often and to be denied the opportunity to play in one is heartbreaking for the school girls. 

Division 1 League – Well done to our senior team who continued their winning ways with a hard fought away win over Aughawillan last Saturday evening.  Both teams contributed to a high quality game with some fantastic long range scores a feature of this high scoring contest which finished 2-15 to 0-16.

Division 2 and 3 League – Our Division 2 team agonisingly lost another close game when they travelled to Cloone on Sunday to take on the home side.  The home side’s ability to score goals proved costly with the final score 2-9 to 0-13.  Our Division 3 team were not able to field against Carrigallen on the same day and this weekend they host Gortletteragh on Saturday at 7pm.  Please support the team and management.

U13 Boys – Hard luck to our U13s who lost the 15aside League Semi Final against Mohill by 2 points in Mohill on Thursday evening last.  It was a brilliant performance from these young lads with loads of skill, but what was most impressive was their never give up attitude and over all work rate.  Well done to all the boys and their management team of Adrian Croal and Kenneth McMorrow.

U9 Blitz – A blitz against St Mary’s is scheduled for 10am this Saturday morning in the Bee Park. 

U14 Girls –Best of luck to our U14 girls who take on St Mary’s in the league this Wednesday evening at 7pm in Boggaun. This will also impact on the Qualification for Feile 2018. Please support.

Senior Ladies – Our Division 1 Ladies side travel to Aughawillan this Sunday morning at 11am for their third round of the league campaign. The girls hope to secure another league win. Please support if you can.

Cake Sale – The Ladies Club will be hosting a Cake Sale after all  Mullies, Glencar and Manorhamilton Masses on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April. This fundraiser is to support the general running of the club including referees, pitch expenses and footballs etc.  The entire ladies club will be making an array of baked goods including tray bakes, cakes , tarts, scones, breads etc. With plenty of sweet treats and some healthy options this is always a great selection of items. Your generous support would be greatly appreciated.

U12 Girls – Training for this group of players takes place every Saturday morning at 9am at St Clares NS Astro.  Contact Brendan McLaughlin for further information.

Senior Hurlers – Due to the death of Donal Kirby R.I.P. (Western Gaels) and Secretary of the C.C.C. Coiste Chontae Shligigh the Dermot Molloy Hurling League fixtures scheduled for last weekend were postponed as a mark of respect.  Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Club Academy – Our Club Academy for U7s, U9s and U11’s continues on Friday nights.  Venue is weather dependent and will be notified to parents and posted on our Facebook page.  €2 each or €5 max per family.  New players are joining every week so feel free to bring your children along to join in the fun and games.

Dunnes Bar Division 1 – Hard luck to our Division 1 men’s team who lost to Gortletteragh last weekend. A physical match on the heavy ground. Next up they play Ballinamore in their first home game of the year. Come down and support the lads in the first game in Drumkeerin, this Saturday at 7pm.
Swan Bar Division 3 – no fixture last weekend or this weekend but the team sits top of Division 3 after four games played with three wins.
Senior Ladies – Hard luck to our senior ladies last weekend, they put up a good battle in a tightly fought contest to lose by a small margin.
Newtowngore Engineering U17 – Well done to our U17 men’s team who beat Rinn Gaels on Saturday afternoon in the league semi-final. Final score 5-08 (23) Drumkeerin to 2-04 (10) Rinn Gaels. The league final will take place in the upcoming weeks against the winners of Annaduff and Melvin Gaels.
Barna Recycling U13 –  Hard luck to the U13 lads, they put up a great game Vs Annaduff, on Monday, in the league semi-final only to lose by a point.
U14 Ladies – Next U14 ladies league game against Melvin Gaels is scheduled for this Friday 13th April at 6:30pm in Kinlough. Good luck to all involved
Cumann na mBunscoil – Good luck to all schools in the Drumkeerin GAA area in the upcoming Cumann na mBunscoil competition.
Club/Executive meeting – the next club meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 11th, at 9pm in the Rowanberry, on the Main Street.

Leitrim GAA Strategic Plan – Coiste Chontae Liatroma CLG is in the process of producing a Strategic Development Plan for the next three years.

As part of the consultation process, adult members of the GAA in Leitrim are being asked for their views under a number of headings.
