Ladies Inter-County Activity 2000
National League
Following a poor league league campaign in 1999 Leitrim found themselves competing in Division 3 of the league in 2000. Two games before christmas resulted in a big win over Wicklow, but Roscommon avenged their Connacht championship defeat with a one point win. The league resumed in May and Leitrim got back on the winning trail with victories over Tipperary and Galway. Carlow ended Leitrims run with a one point win however the comprehensive defeats of Laois and Limerick ensured Leitrim qualified for the quarter finals by finishing runners up in the division.

On 14th May Down were the visitors to Parc Sean in Carrick for the quarter final. Leitrim never got going in the first half and were nine points in arrears at the interval. It was a different team that took the field for the final thirty minutes and with a brilliant display of accuracy progressed with a 2-14 to 3-6 win.

Carlow was the venue for the semi final and Leitrim were hopeful of reversing the result of their previous meeting. Carlow led by 1-1 to 0-3 at the break and looked on course for the final. However again an inspirational display in the second half where Leitrim outscored their opponents by eight points to one earned Leitrim a well deserved win by 0-11 to 1-03.

The Division 3 final was played in Longford on 25th June. In contrast to the previous two games Leitrim started the game with great determination and blew Galway away with an eight point lead at the break. However Galway to their credit played more like they were capable of in the second half but Leitrim kept one step ahead to win their first National title since 1988. Maeve Quinn, who made a welcome return after her recent marriage, lifted the cup on behalf of the team.

Championship
As defending champions Leitrim were determined to defend their title and opened their campaign in the semi final against Mayo on 16th July in Drumshanbo. Leitrim were made to fight all the way by a resiliant Mayo team but eventually came good to win by 2-15 to 1-07.

The final in Carrick was a repeat of the League Final in Longford with Galway the visitors to Carrick. This was an exciting end to end game and it took an equalising point on the stroke of full time with the countdown clock running out for Leitrim to bring the game to extra time. Again Leitrim found themselves a point in arrears with a minute remaining on the clock but again they found the posts to send the game to a replay.

The replay took place in Tuam the following Sunday and Galway proved they had learned valuable lessons from Carrick. This was a high scoring encounter with Galway leading by six points at the break. They never let Leitrim back into the game and ran out winners by 3-15 to 0-14.

Minor Championship

The final was played against old Mayo in Foxford on 2nd August. Mayo proved too strong for a young Leitrim team plagued with injuries to a number of their players and secured their eighth title in a row with a 4-13 to 2-4 win. Team: Kathy Butler, Michelle Maguire, Louise Heslin, Carla Creegan, Lorraine McDermott, Eimear McGlade, Emer Beirne, Mary McKeon, Naomi Lee, Lorna McDermott, Bernie Egan, Emer Horan, Catherine Dolan, Tara McCabe, Evy Guckian, Aoife Kelly, Breda Holohan, Shiela Bohan, Deirdre Beirne, Pamela Nicholls, Kerri Manning, Sandra Brady, Paula McGarry.

Ladies Club Activity 2000
Four Senior teams took part in the league and championship in 2000. Cloone and Aughawillan both qualified for the two finals. On Sunday 10th September Aughawillan defended their title but only after a very determined Cloone team lost their way in the second half. The league final was played on 12th November and this time Cloone finally lifted a senior title with a 2-08 to 4-01 win. In the junior league and championship it was St Josephs and Bornacoola that met in both finals. There was little to choose between the teams on both occasions but St Josephs captured both titles with a two and one point winning margin.

Annaduff made it three in a row capturing the under 12 title against Dromahair on a 4-04 to 2-02 scoreline. This was the Dromahair girls first ever final appearance in ladies football. Annaduff also reached the under 14 final but Mohill proved too strong on the day. Mohill also contested both under 16 and minor finals. In the under 16 competition they defeated Cloone to win their second title of the year. Cloone and Mohill played out a draw in the final of the minor championship but in the replay two weeks later Cloone proved too strong and added to their Senior League title.

Connacht Club Championship
Aughawillan represented Leitrim in the Intermediate championship against Padraig Pearses of Roscommon but did not progress in the competition while St Josephs were also defeated in the first round of the junior competition against Foxford of Mayo.

Feile na nÓg
Annaduff represented Leitrim at Feile na nOg in Dublin and progressed to the final stages of the competition.
