Barna Recycling Under 13 Reserve League – This team played out a wonderful game of football on Thursday last in the reserve final but were just pipped in the end by a strong St Mary’s side. Every boy gave it his all on the night and great credit goes to them and their mentors A big thanks to Bórd na Óg for the lovely refreshments after the game. Newtowngore Engineering Under 17 League – The Under 17s completed their League campaign when they played Fenagh in the Shield semi-final on Tues last. Fenagh were worthy winners but Mohill played very well and most of the team are underage for next year. The scoreline ended Mohill 0-17 Fenagh 4-13 Scorers were C Quinn 0-5, C Mulligan 0-3, F Cassells 0-2, N Keegan 0-2, C White 0-1, K Curran 0-1, L Ellis 0-1, C Macklin 0-1

Barna Recycling Under 13, 15/aside Final – The Under 13s once more played St Marys in this final and although playing a wonderful game, were beaten by 3 points. There will a full report on this match in this week’s Leitrim Observer.

Christy Clyne RIP – We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Christy Clyne who died last week. Christy played football in his youth and togged out alongside Packie McGarty, Eddie Rowley, Eddie Foley and many other notables as a schoolboy in 1956. He was a much-loved postman for many years around Mohill. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Swan Bar Div 4 – The third string played Kiltubrid at the weekend but were missing a few key players, this left them short of scoring power. Those present played their hearts out but Kiltubrid were the stronger team and won well in the end.

Div 1 – Leitrim Gaels gave Mohill a run for their money in this Div 1 clash, but thankfully they held the Gaels to a draw so no harm was done.

Div 2 – Dromahaire showed no mercy to the second string on Sunday morning with an emphatic win. We wish Johnny Beirne a speedy recovery from an ankle injury sustained in this game

Div 4 – This squad had a big win over Dromahaire on Sunday. The scorers in this game were, J Boyle 2-1, S Flynn 0-5, B Lupton 1-1, T Mulligan 1-1, B Kilrane 0-2, N Flynn 0-1, P ONeill 0-1, C Beirne 0-3.

U 13s – The Under 13 fifteen aside and reserves take pride of place this week with both teams contesting finals at the end of this week. Reserve U 13 – The reserve team played on Wed and a brave Dromahaire travelled the long journey south but were just not strong enough for the Mohill lads. More about them next week

Lotto – There was no winner of the jackpot. The numbers drawn were 3, 11, 17, 18.Lucky Dip winners were €70 David Reynolds Eslin €40 Anthony Canning Mohill, €20 David Dorr Dundalk. Jackpot is €5300 next week.

Shay Reynolds RIP – The Club extend deepest sympathy to the family of Shay Reynolds Bornacoola who died last week. Shay was a great GAA Man for his Club and county and will be sorely missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé

Hilda McWeeney – The Club offer deepest sympathy to the McWeeney family on the untimely death of Hilda last Saturday. The McWeeney family have deep roots in Mohill GAA since it’s foundation and have contributed generously over the years. May she rest in peace.

Margaret McGarry RIP  – We extend deepest sympathy to Club Officer Claire McLoughlin on the death of her mother Margret last week. Margaret was also mother-in-law of Club Chairman Padraig McLoughlin and grandmother to players Alan and Darren McLoughlin. The deceased worked as a matron in Árus Ó Carolan for many years. Under 17  – Last week this young team met Ballinamore but once again they were beate, this time by a strong Ballinamore team. A lot of these lads are Under 15, so let’s hope we have better days ahead. The panel was, S Moran, L Ellis, G Reynolds,  C Quinn 0-3, J Murphy, C Keegan, N McNabola, S Bohan 0-1, N Keegan C Keegan, F Cassells 0-2 C White, D McCrann, A Nitche C Wauhua.

Under 13 – These lads have qualified for the Semi-final of the Div 1 15 aside and the Reserve 13 aside when they had two fine wins against a dogged Dromahaire in freezing wet, conditions last week. At this age group we have plenty of players with 24 boys travelling and some big names missing with injury and holidays. Scorers in both matches were, Matthew Murphy 2-8, Aaron McCrann 2-1, Senan Curran 1-0, Jack Rowley 0-1, Evan Kilrane 0-1, Daniel Beirne 2-2, Thomas Casey 1-1, Blaine McCrann 0-1, Patrik Coka 0-1. The semis are on Thursday next but check fixtures.

Div 1 League – The game was changed to Mohill last Saturday and it proved a happy hunting ground with a win over Aughawillan the prize. We wish our scoring machine Keith Beirne a Happy 21st Birthday which the team we are sure celebrated following the game.

Div 2 – On the first warm Sunday this year our second string travelled north to play Manorhamilton and won by a point. The final score was Mohill 4-13, Manorhamilton 2-18

Dearbhaile Beirne – Congratulations to Dearbhaile a member of Ireland’s Fittest Family who has made the Irish International Soccer team. This is a great achievement and well deserved. The Beirne family have been outstanding in athletics, GAA, Soccer and basketball in Mohill over the years.

Under 13 – Under 13s lost their unbeaten record when they came up against a strong Leitrim Gaels team on Wed last. The team was L Bohan, A McGuinness, M Tiernan, D Casey, E Duignan, C Donohue, J Rowley, L Flynn, C McNamara, S Curran, M Murphy, H Boyle, A McCrann, A Mulligan, O Coka, J McCrann,  Scorers were Colin McNamara 1-1 Matthew Murphy 0-4.

Under 17 – These lads suffered the same fate as the Under 13s also at the hands of Leitrim Gaels who are producing fine footballers. Scorers were, S Bohan 1-1, C Quinn 0-2, N McNabola 0-1, F Cassells 0-1.

Div 2 League – After a promising start our second string had to yield to the power of Allen Gaels on Sunday last. There will be better days ahead we are sure.

Div 1 League – Our Seniors had a good start under new management Frank Browne and collected full points from St Mary’s in difficult conditions.

Lotto – It is hoped that more people will join the Mohill Lotto and help keep the Club running. For those abroad and at home it can be joined online by going to the website. By a standing order in the Bank, that can be arranged by contacting David Gordon for details, by a yearly or 6-month donation or buy an envelope in the local shops and supermarket for 2 Euro.

Barna Recycling Under 13 – These young men are enjoying success in Div 1 of the League. They played Ballinamore on Monday last and showed great skill and tenacity. The panel and scorers were, L Bohan, A McGuinness, M Tiernan, D Casey 0-1, E Duignan 0-1, C Donohue, J Rowley 2-2, L Flynn 0-1, C McNamara 0-2, S Curran 1-2, M Murphy 2-4, H Boyle 1-0, A McCrann 0-1, A Mulligan, O Coka, J McCrann, P Coka, C Walpole, B McCrann. They travelled to Manor on Saturday and the scorers were M Murphy 2-7, C McNamara 1-3, J Rowley 1-2, E Duignan 1-1, A Mulligan 0-2. Tonight, Wed both the Under 13 teams will play Leitrim Gaels at 6pm.

Dunnes Bar Div 1 League – We are down in the fixtures to play St Mary’s on Sat evening at 6.30. The idea of playing without our county players seems a bit strange as we would then find it hard to make up numbers.

Dunnes Bar Div2 League – Our second string play Allen Gaels on Sunday morning in Drumshanbo at 12pm

County Team – Well done to the Senior County lads with a big win over Wicklow. Keith Beirne was on song, while Oisin Madden, Shane Quinn, James Mitchell, Ronan Kennedy all made their presence felt. Domhnaill Flynn, Keith Keegan Alan Armstrong and Caillin Canning- who is recovering from injury at county level – are also on the panel.

New Baby – Congratulations to Ciarán and Eimear Kennedy on the birth of their baby boy Iarla. A little brother for Cáit

Junior B – In a closely contested game on Sunday last Ballinaglera edged in front in the last few minutes to go home with full points. We saw Jordan Reynolds making his debut in adult football and played a very good game too. The score in the end was 4-4 to 3-10. We wish a speedy recovery to Liam Rowley who picked up a serious ankle injury in training at the weekend.

Under 17 – This panel is still struggling for numbers and had no answer to a very strong St Mary’s team last week. Watch fixtures for games this weekend.

Ann Guckian RIP – The club extends sympathy to the family of Mrs. Ann Guckian Hill St who passed away last week. Ann’s sons Padraig and Liam played in the 70s for Mohill and her grandchildren David, Paul, Stephen and Aisling Conaty were players in recent times. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí

Swan Bar Div 4 – This was the first adult game of the year and we saw the emergence of some very young players and also the return of a not so old Phillip Casserly who promised that he would come back at some stage and play for Mohill. True to his word he played his heart out on Sunday last but Aughavas were the winners at the end of a very exciting encounter. Newtowngore Engineering U 17 – There is a shortage of players at this age group and considering we have three clubs involved at underage it is alarming to see only 14 players in Fenagh on Saturday. These young men played their hearts out, but Fenagh was the stronger team and ran out comfortable winners. Training – Training for adult men is going well under new management led by Frank Browne. Tues, Friday, and Sunday are the dates and there may be a challenge this weekend. The ladies are also busy preparing for forthcoming fixtures and are lucky to have the services of Gary and Shane Canning at the helm this year.

Registration Day – Registration for all men women and children will take place in the Clubrooms on Saturday morning next from 10 to 11.30 am. Senior players €50, Student players €40, Minors €30, Under 6 €25, Non-players €30. There are numerous reductions for families.

County Game – Well done to the Leitrim team who had their first win on Sunday last. The victory will instill some confidence in the team as they head to London at the weekend. Mohill’s representatives Shane Quinn, Keith Keegan, Oisín Madden and Keith Beirne who scored 2-8 of the total all played well and it was great to see Alan Armstrong making an appearance towards the end following injury. 25 Under 11 boys and girls from Mohill played at halftime in the game and cheered on the team all through.

Newtowngore Engineering Under 17 – These boys had their first outing on Saturday last but unfortunately were beaten by a strong St Joseph’s team. Hopefully, we will have a full turn out of players on Saturday morning next  against Ballinamore in Pairc Philib at 12 noon

Barna Recycling Under 13 – Mohill’s tenacity at this age group saw them beat a strong St Mary’s side on Sunday morning last in cold but sunny conditions at Cloone. This was their second victory in Div 1 and every player from both sides gave it their all in an exciting encounter that could have gone either way. The team and scorers were Luke Bohan, Cillian Walpole, Adam McGuinness, Ondrei Coka, Diarmuid Casey, Cathal Donoghue, Michael Tiernan, Liam Flynn, Jack Rowley, Colin McNamara 0-1, Eoghan Duignan, Senan Curran 0-1, Aaron McCrann 2-0, Matthew Murphy 1-3, Aidan Mulligan.

Baby Boom – Congratulations to Senior player Talita and Kevin Gordon on the birth of their lovely little daughter Ayda. We also congratulate Padraig and Edel McWeeney on the birth of their gorgeous baby boy Cillian. both sets of parents work hard for our club at underage level.

Amelia Pajek – Amelia gave the performance of her young life at the Scór na Óg All Ireland Finals in Sligo on Saturday last. Amelia sang her song beautifully and was unlucky not to get the judges nod. The Club thanks Amelia, her co-ordinator Róisín Kennedy and her parents for representing Mohill on stage

Under 13 – These young men played the first game of the year in Carrigallen on Sunday morning in rough conditions last and collected full points off a spirited St Joseph’s side. We had a great squad and everyone got some playing time. Scór na nÓg All Ireland – Best wishes to our young singer Amelia Pajek who is representing Mohill Club and County Leitrim in the All Ireland of Scór na nÓg on Saturday next in Sligo. To reach the final is an amazing achievement so everything after that is a bonus.

Underage Boys and Girls – Mohill GAA is starting its Underage Football Academy at 10am on Feb 17at the old Marian College site. The Under 7s will be indoors while the Under 9’s and 11’s will be on the Astro Turf. All boys and girls are welcome and new members are more than welcome. Maura Foy RIP – We extend deepest sympathy to the Foy family on the death of their mother Maura who died on Sunday last. The Foy family have been involved in the club over the years as players, officers and supporters. Maura’s brother John Mulligan Lahenamon died only two weeks ago. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Thank You – Ronan Kennedy wants to offer sincere thank you to everyone who donated to his Zambia fundraising project on the night of the Dinner Dance and also everyone who has been n contact since with well wishes and donations. Ronan is going to Zambia in April to work with disabled children and is seeking to raise 10K this year. Any help or donations are much appreciated.

Cash for Clobber – The ladies in our club are collecting Clothes, bags, belts etc, etc and people are asked to deposit their goods in the clubrooms on Saturday morning from 10 to 12.

County Award – Well done to Caillin Canning who collected his Club Player of the Year award on Saturday  last at the County Board Awards night. He also collected his Junior Connacht medal as did Alan Armstrong. Congrats to all those young men

County Team – The County boys waited for the last 10 minutes to give the large crowd something to cheer about and in those final moments they scored 3-4 to give Laois a slight fright. The last few minutes of the game should give the players a bit of confidence for the next game and let them throw caution to the wind.

National GAA Draw – The tickets from Croke Park only arrived this week so it will be this week before our volunteers will get selling.  There are some great prizes all donated by GAA Headquarters which include a car, All Ireland Hurling and football packages, Great shopping vouchers. The Club is hoping to make big improvements in the Park this year which will be to the benefit to all the community.

Teresa Moran RIP – The club commiserates with the family of Teresa Moran (nee Leogue) whose untimely death occurred last week. Teresa who was in the prime of her life and Principal of Cloone NS, was a Mohill native and her husband John was a popular teacher in Marian College. To her husband John, sons, sister, brothers and her large extended family, we extend deepest sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí
