Bornacoola GAA Club Notes 06/04/2018

This is Your Life – Our thanks to everyone who supported our This is Your Life night in Lough Rynn on Easter Saturday night. Sean Mc Gowan and Declan Bohan were those who received the Red Book treatment and we thank them and their families for their participation. The night would not have been possible without the huge range of guests who travelled from near and far. Thanks also to Lough Rynn for hosting the night, to those who performed on stage including the O’Neill School of Dancing, Shannon Healy, Bríd Sullivan and Rachel Mallon, and to the as ever incomparable Tommy Moran who filled the Eamon Andrew’s role with his usual aplomb. It was the third time in the last 5 years that Tommy has compered on our behalf – he is a true legend of both Leitrim and the GAA. To Martina Hackett and the Finance team who put so much effort into delivering a hugely professional night and finally to the sponsors of our raffle prizes for the halftime draw – winners were;  Siobhan Mulligan, Lorraine Bohan, Mary Faughnan, John Campbell, Alison Mc Keon, Deirdre Faughnan, Gerry Kilraine, Aoide Mallon, Rachel Mallon and Ivy Body.

Dunnes Bar Division 2 – The Senior team got their competitive season underway on Saturday last when Dromahair were the visitors to Dromod. The North Leitrim men were in control for most of the game and led by four points at halftime. In the second half, Bornacoola cut the gap to just two points midway through, and it looked like a tight finish was in store. However, a series of unanswered points ensured it was the visitors who would leave with the win, and despite a late Damian Moran goal for the Bors, Dromahair were worthy 0-15 to 1-8 victors. Team on duty was Conor Hackett, Damian Mc Guinness, Jason Conroy, Brian Duffy, Mervyn Howard, Conor Mc Cauley (0-1), David Mulligan, Alan Croghan, Gary Mc Closkey, Cian Mallon, Sean Mc Keon (0-2), Kevin Mulligan, Robert O Beirne, Damian Moran (1-4) and Ronan Mulligan. Subs used were: Ollie Vaughan (0-1), Liam Mulligan and Kevin Shanley. This Saturday we play Annaduff in Dromod at 6.30pm in our second league game in Division 2.

Newtowngore Engineering Minors – Rinn Gaels finished the league off in style with a good 5-16 to 4-4 victory over Dromahair on Saturday last to qualify for the Minor semi-final which takes place this Saturday against Drumkeerin at 12noon – venue to be confirmed (see Leitrim GAA website)

Ladies Football – The Bornacoola/St Marys girls played their second match of the 2018 League season on Sunday morning last as they made the long early morning trip to take on a strong Dromahair second team in picturesque Glencar. Following a most competitive match which swayed from end to end, it was the home side which took the spoils of victory with three points to spare at full time. Final score: Dromahair 4-9 Bornacoola/St Mary’s 5-3. The girls are out again on Sunday morning next as they host Aughawillan in Dromod at 11am. On duty on Sunday morning last were Caroline Guckian, Jasmine Maye, Cora McCauley, Emily Reynolds, Hannah Reynolds, Lorraine Guckian, Enya Guckian, Kasey Bruen, Allison McKeon, Aisling Leahy, Sara Crowe, Rachel McGarry, Sarah Reynolds, Kelly Howard, Lisa Guckian, Hannah Bird, Ellen Woods and Tanya Boyle.

U2 Ticket Competition – The Club are currently running a draw for two tickets to see U2 in the 3Arena in Dublin on November 6th next. Tickets for the draw are just €10 each and you can enter on our website www.bornacoola.gaa.ie/home/u2-ticket-fundraiser

Sympathy – The sympathies of the Club are extended to the Mahon family, Aughnahanshun, on the passing of former Bornacoola player Michael in London last week. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Bornacoola Orcas – Four years ago, former Bornacoola Footballer Derek DiggerMan Duignan, set up the Bornacoola Orcas touch Rugby team in Evan’s Head in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales (Australia). We’re delighted to report that the Orca’s won their first Grand Final last week wearing the Black and Amber with pride in the final. Unfortunately, the DiggerMan himself was unable to take the field for the big day, as an earlier Rugby injury meant he had not played enough games to be eligible for the final. As they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same!! Well done to Derek and his team and we hope to see you back in Ireland soon.

First Aid – In conjunction with Leitrim Sports Partnership we plan to run a first aid course in Bornacoola clubhouse on this Saturday, 7th of April. There are a maximum of 10 places available. Please confirm if you are interested by contacting Suzanne Maguire on 087 3898205 or Trevor Howard on 087 8677206.

Barna Recycling U-13 League – Our U13 players continued their league campaign with Gortletteragh on Thursday evening as they faced Fenagh in an away fixture. On a miserable evening for football Fenagh threatened to run riot with a blistering start to the game, but the lads dug deep and fought hard to make it into a competitive game.

Team David Doyle, Luke McManus, Nathan Ryan, Jonathan Boyle, George Glaze, Tommy Reen, Noah McNulty, Matthew Davis, Adam Reen, Riaghan Ward, Ryan Fanning, Jack Reynolds, Jack Gannon, Oisin Maguire and Senan Woods.
