Allen Gaels GAA Club Notes 11/07/2018

Dunnes Bar Division 2 – It’s been a busy week for the team & management with two games in 4 days. We travelled to Drumreilly last Wednesday evening and after a titanic battle emerged with a share of the spoils on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-14 in a cracking encounter. We led 1-10 to 1-07 at the break and with Caleb Duffy in imperious form were looking good for the points but a late goal for the home side earned a draw. Our scorers were: Caleb Duffy 3-06 (4f); Thomas Mulvey 0-02; Martin Beirne 0-02; Shane Walsh 0-02; Martin Raftery 0-01; Diarmuid McKiernan 0-01. On Sunday morning we had a home game against Glencar Manorhamilton and after another high quality game we came out on top on a scoreline of 3-10 to 0-13. Again this was a great battle and if Manor had converted some goal chances then it would have been a closer affair. We led 1-06 to 0-05 at the interval with Bryan Beirne finding the roof of the net in the 4thminute. Martin Beirne scored a goal in the 35th minute with a great finish from a tight angle and Thomas Mulvey secured the points when he coolly slotted home in the 52nd minute. Scorers: Martin Beirne 1-07 (5f); Thomas Mulvey 1-01; Bryan Beirne 1-00; Caleb Duffy 0-02. Best of luck to the squad & management in the remaining games as we chase promotion. We are fixed to play away  to Dromahair on Wednesday evening at 8:30pm and at home to Annaduff on Saturday, the two teams above us in the table. This means we have to play 4 games in 10 days which is a very big ask of players at this time of year with lads having to travel for 2 consecutive Wednesday night games. If the Fixtures Committee feel this is a reasonable situation then all clubs should have to play the same schedule and this is not the case!

Newtowngore Engineering U-17 – The U-17’s begin their championship campaign with a trip to Drumkeerin next Monday evening at 7pm. Best of luck to all concerned.

Barna Recycling U-13 – Best of luck to the lads who begin with a home game against Fenagh on Thursday evening at 7pm.

U-12 Cross Border League – The U-12’s lost out to Clonbroney in the Plate Final in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday evening last. Well done to the lads on reaching the final.

U12 ladies –  The girls played two matches recently St Mary’s away and St Brigid’s in Ballinaglera. With the holiday season in full flow, we fielded without a few players. Great credit to the girls who came in to play and help the club fulfill all fixtures, a number of U-10’s lining out representing the club for the first time in competitive games so well done girls. The panel on duty was Leah Mc Loughlin, Katie McGovern, Andrea Gilmartin, Ella Guckian,  Erin McCawley, Ella Casey, Aoibheann McGowan, Brianna O’Donnell, Hayley Woods, Elizabeth Flynn, Mollie Smith, Aloisa Fowler, Grace Gillard, Hannah McKeon, Ellen McGowan. We have completed our league schedule and were very competitive in all games. Thanks to all the ladies for their commitment and never say die attitude & to all parents for the lifts and support. Thanks again to Frankie Reynolds for his help and the Ballinaglera club for the use of their facilities while our pitch was closed. A huge thank you to Paul McGowan  & Berni Lynch for looking after the team. Training continues on Saturdays.
