Important Officer Training night for Club Chairpersons, Secretaries, Treasurers, and PROs will be held in the Bush Hotel on Monday 21 January starting at 8.00pm. It is essential that each of these four officers from each club are in attendance. The training will be provided separately, in separated rooms, for each of those officers. A special ceremony with governmental representation in Croke Park today saw 58 GAA clubs recognised as the first official ‘Healthy Clubs’ on the island of Ireland.

The clubs, at least one in each of the 32 counties, can now proudly fly a flag above their grounds (endorsed by both Healthy Ireland and the Public Health Agency in NI), letting their members and communities know that they value health and wellbeing as much as leagues and championships.

We are delighted to report that Melvin Gaels GAA Club will fly the ‘Healthy Club’ Flag at their club grounds as a result of their participation in this very worthwhile initiative. We take this opportunity to congratulate all at Melvin Gaels GAA and hope that their example will inspire more of our clubs to follow in 2018.

Criteria for application for Connacht GAA Development Grants – Club Grounds

  • Full details of proposed project

  • Evidence of Planning Permission

  • Is club vested supply copy of deed of trust

  • Set of club accounts for past 3 years

  • Financial Projections

  • Letter of approval for bank borrowing, if necessary

  • Up to date tender document

  • County Board Approval

  • Evidence of Lotto approval, if granted.

  • Club Plan, (Strategic).

Undertaking borrowings with a financial institution
Any unit is authorised to incur borrowings up to €15000, without seeking external approval. For borrowings in excess of this limit the following authorisations are required:

  • Under €15,000- no external approval required.

  • €15,000 to €75,000- County Board approval required.

  • €75,000 to €150,000- Provincial Council Approval Required

  • Over €150,000- National Financial Management Committee, (NFMC) approval required.

Note that the above limits relate to the cumulative borrowings position of the unit, not merely to borrowings contemplated for a specific project or undertaking.
Any unit seeking to borrow over €150,000 is required to submit a formal application to the county committee for approval. The sanctioned application is then required to be submitted to the provincial council for secondary approval before submission to the N FM C
The required application form is included, (see attached), The application must be accompanied by the following.

  • If the loan is to be secured against the existing property of the club, a copy of the deed of trust vesting the property in the association.

  • Business plan detailing proposed utlilsation of the funds

  • Future cash flow projections for the unit

  • Financial statements of the unit

  • Details of existing borrowings outstanding

  • Letter of offer from the financial institution

  • Bank confirmation of existing balances outstanding

A condition of NFMC consent will be a clause in the loan agreement authorising the bank to notify Central Council In the event of the loan falling into arrears or current accounts operating in ongoing surplus.
The letter of borrowing authorisatlon will, if relevant, explicitly authorise the trustees of the borrowing unit to mortgage or charge any or all of the real property of the unit as security. The letter of borrowing authorisation must not be construed as a guarantee from Central Council.
In recognition of the fact that this arrangement will foster good banking practise by GAA units the principal lending Institutions have agreed to facilitate this policy and will not advance funds without the appropriate level of authorisatlon.
The unit will be notified In advance of the NFMC meeting which will consider the proposal. The decision of the NFMC, and the authorisation letter if applicable, will be notified to the unit in writing within 10 working days of the meeting, and copied to the county and provincial bodies involved.

The Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club will host there Annual Golf Classic in Blacklion Golf Club on Saturday 11th July 2009.

The format will be a Four Ball with the best two Scores counting on each hole.

Complimentary Tea & Coffee will be available prior to tee off and a buffet carvery lunch will be provided on your return from the course and hopefully you will take home one of the many substantial prizes.

The cost per teams which includes the meal, works out at €200.00 and we are looking for your support in providing much needed funding for the development of our Club and the provision of much needed facilities for the youth of the parish.

If you are unable to join us on the day, you might consider sponsoring a Tee at €50.00 where your name will be prominently displayed on the day.

Our inaugural Golf classic last year was a great success, thanks mainly to generous sponsorship and support received. This was greatly appreciated and acknowledged.

Drumkeerin are as busy off the field as they are on it with the launch this week of their brand new website.  County final week is a good week to launch the site which is just finished.  It is a very polished affair and full of very interesting pages including a very informative section on the clubs history.  The lotto, news, fixtures and photo gallery are just a few of the sections included in the site design. 

The site is designed by Francis Redican who has utilised modern programming methods to produce a fast dynamic site.  The colour schemes and navigation menus are easy on the eye and very effective.

Well done to Francis and all concerned,  the club can definately be proud of this fine production as they prepare for the Intermediate final on Saturday.

Croke Park Insurance Input

Mr Roger Clancy ‘Risk and Insurance Manager, Croke Park will attend next Monday nights meeting of Coiste Chontae Liatroma.

All clubs are reminded of this opportunity to bring their Insurance knowledge up to date. All club Insurance Officers or who ever deals with day to day Insurance issues at their club are expected to attend. This follows a request at last County Board meeting for further information on Insurance Cover etc..

Des Cahill is hitting the road again.

The championship season is under way now and just like every county team, The Road to Croker team are working on our fitness and ball skills for what will hopefully be another epic journey.

After visiting clubhouses all over the country last year, Des and his team are looking for venues for a programme each week this summer.

If you want to put your club on the map this is your perfect chance, with a large audience nationwide tuning in every week. If your club is featured it will also be the meeting point for some of the stars of the games, as Des chats with the people at the front line of the championship action.
