Senior Championship – Our Senior Championship campaign continued on Saturday last when we faced Aughnasheelin in Cloone. Bornacoola were much sharper than they had been in their opening encounter with Allen Gaels and led early in the game as they took the game to their opponents and managed some good scores. However, the key score of the game arrived midway through the first half when Aughnasheelin grabbed a well worked goal and that was to prove a decisive cushion throughout the remainder of the game as the Aughnasheelin men went on to record a deserved 1-17 to 0-13 victory. This Saturday we face Glencar/Manorhamilton in Ballinamore at 5pm. Team on Saturday was: Danny Farrell, Jason Conory, Gary Mc Closkey, Conor Mc Cauley, Kevin Mulligan, Anthony Mulligan (0-1), Allan Croghan (0-2), Damian Moran (0-3), Colm Farrell, Cian Mallon, Sean Mc Keon (0-2), Ollie Vaughan (0-1). Philip Howard (0-2), Michael Duignan (0-1) and Ronan Mulligan. Subs used were Brian Conroy and Mervyn Howard (0-1).

Minor Championship – Rinn Gaels had a good victory on Monday week last when they overcame Glencar/Manorhamilton on a 3-11 to 1-9 scoreline in the Minor Championship. The team are in a strong position having won 3 out of their 4 games to date.

Ladies Championship – Bornacoola/St Mary’s were back in action on Friday evening last as they took on Fenagh in their second match in the excellent Aughavas facilities. Having won their first match comfortably, this turned out to be a much more competitive affair with the girls eventually prevailing on a 1-10 to 1-5 final scoreline. Despite Sarah Reynolds hitting the back of the net in the very early stages, the Fenagh girls were not to be deterred and served their intent with some fine scores from play throughout the half. Indeed the first half was very evenly matched and a late penalty converted by the Fenagh ladies saw the teams enter the half-time interval on level terms 1-4 each. On the resumption, Bornacoola/St Marys played with renewed determination and greater pace and with the defence holding the opposition to a solitary point over the half hour, they added six points to their total to establish the match-winning margin after a highly competitive and enjoyable championship match played in an excellent spirit by both teams. Well done to the girls on their efforts so far in this championship season which have guaranteed a semi-final place with two group matches still remaining against St. Francis and Mohill later this month. On duty on Friday evening last were: Kathy Butler, Hannah Reynolds, Jasmine Maye, Joanne McGushin, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian (0-1), Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon, Kasey Bruen (0-1), Sara Crowe, Aisling Leahy (0-4), Rachel McGarry, Sarah Reynolds (1-0), Kelly Howard (0-4), Lisa Guckian, Hannah Farrell, Isabelle Chandler and Ellen Woods.

Your support would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in sponsoring a segment, contact Jonathan on 0877700081

Senior Championship – Our Senior Championship campaign got off to a disappointing start on Friday night last in Cloone when Allen Gaels were decisive winners in a one-sided first-round clash. The Gaels were very quick out of the traps and two goals inside the first 15 minutes, one from the penalty spot, ensured the Bors were on the back foot from early in the game and trailed by 7 points by the time Philip Howard was black carded in the 20th minute. Our best spell of the game was probably between then and halftime as the Bors settled a little, but nonetheless, it was the Drumshanbo men who held a 2-5 to 0-4 interval lead. The Bors needed a good start to the second half, but it was the Gaels who got one and their third goal – also from the penalty spot – put the game beyond any doubt. A poor night got even worse when Brian Duffy was stretchered from the field after an accidental collision towards the end of the game; thankfully the tigerish Brian has since made a full recovery. A Brian Conroy goal at the death was poor consolation for a disappointing Bornacoola performance as Allen Gaels coasted to their 3-14 to 1-7 victory. This Saturday we face Aughnasheelin in Cloone at 5.30pm. Team on Friday was Danny Farrell, David Mulligan, Damien Mc Guinness, Brian Duffy, Allan Croghan, Jason Conroy, Liam Mulligan, Gary Mc Closkey, Colm Farrell, Cian Mallon (0-1), Sean Mc Keon (0-1), Ollie Vaughan, Philip Howard, Damian Moran (0-4), Ronan Mulligan (0-1). Subs used Conor Mc Cauley, Anthony Mulligan, Brian Conroy (1-0), Mervyn Howard, Noel Mc Enroe

Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Ladies Intermediate Championship – The Bornacoola/St Mary’s ladies were back in action on Sunday last in Ballinaglera as they took on Drumkeerin in their first Intermediate Championship group game and it was winning start for the girls as they accounted for the opposition on a 5-15 to 1-9 scoreline after an entertaining hour’s football played in testing conditions as the temperature rose yet again. The girls were out of the blocks early and had three goals on the board during the first quarter which gave them a winning platform allied to very resolute defending which kept the raiding opposition at bay. Drumkeerin’s cause was not aided by an unfortunate knee injury to influential midfielder Bridget Gallagher which forced an early exit from the game and we wish her the very best in her recovery. The girls held a 4-9 to 0-6 interval lead and while the second half was very evenly contested, our ladies saw the game out to take the spoils in impressive fashion. Their next match in the group will be on the bank holiday weekend as they take on Fenagh with matches against St Francis and Mohill to follow. In action on Sunday last were: Caroline Guckian, Cora McCauley, Kathy Butler, Joanne McGushin, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon, Kasey Bruen (1-1), Sara Crowe (0-3), Aisling Leahy (2-1), Hannah Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds (1-1), Kelly Howard (1-6), Lisa Guckian (0-1), Hannah Farrell (0-2), Isabelle Chandler, Ellen Woods and Maeve Cryan.

Ladies League Final – Congratulations to the Bornacoola/St Mary’s Ladies who captured the Division 3 League title after a titanic battle with Dromahair in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada on Sunday afternoon last. The girls prevailed by a point on a 2-9 to 3-5 scoreline. This is the girls’ second title since they formed last year, having won the Junior Championship last season. It was a great final that had all that you could wish for from top-class goalkeeping from Caroline Guckian, excellent defending and some great football played on the break going forward, and of course, the result was in doubt until the referee’s final whistle. While our girls got out of the blocks early with a Sarah Reynolds goal, it was the Dromahair ladies who grabbed a hold of the contest and by the end of the first quarter held a four-point advantage. However after a storming second quarter with some fine points from Aisling Leahy, Kelly Howard and Sarah Reynolds they entered the halftime interval on level terms, Bornacoola/St Mary’s 1-5 Dromahair 2-2. The second half was end-to-end stuff and there appeared to be nothing to separate two evenly matched teams. After Hannah Reynolds goaled to open a four-point advantage with ten to play, it appeared that perhaps our girls were making a winning break. However, Dromahair fought back to level and in the dying moments, Kelly Howard popped over the winner. It was a memorable victory for the girls and well deserved for their efforts all spring. Well done ladies. On duty on Sunday were: Caroline Guckian, Cora McCauley, Kathy Butler, Joanne McGushin, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon, Kasey Bruen, Sara Crowe, Aisling Leahy (0-5), Hannah Reynolds (1-0), Sarah Reynolds (1-1), Kelly Howard (0-3), Lisa Guckian, Rachel McGarry, Lauren Hackett, Hannah Bird and Ellen Woods.

Leitrim Game – Unfortunately no joy for Benny Guckian and his charges against Monaghan on Saturday last; however it was a great occasion and Leitrim certainly didn’t let themselves down and this young team will have learned a great deal from the experience. Well done to Damian Moran who finished Championship 2018 with 0-9 to his name and of course to our own U9’s who starred in the halftime game in front of a crowd of over 4,600 people. Maith sibh go léir; Liatroim abú!

Damian shines for Leitrim – Well done to Damian Moran and his Leitrim team mates on a top notch championship victory against Louth in Páirc Seán on Saturday last. It was a hugely impressive display and due reward for the Leitrim supporters who have stayed loyal to the team. Damian put in one of his most composed performances scoring 0-6 from play. This Saturday afternoon Leitrim face one of the country’s top [ teams when Monaghan come to Carrick. Best of luck to all involved and we hope there is a large Leitrim support on hand as it is the least our young team deserve.

Sympathy – The sympathies of the club are extended to the Kennedy family, Finiskill Mohill on the sad passing of Mary (nee Gallogly). Mary was a great Gael and served the Mohill club with distinction in a variety of different roles. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sí.

Division 4- Our Junior team played their final league game of the year on Saturday last when they took on Leitrim Gaels with a place in the league  final on the line. Unfortunately the Gaels made a bright start scoring two early goals and from there we never quite managed to recover, despite finding the net on three occasions ourselves. Final score was 3-5 to 2-11 and while there was disappointment at not making the league final, it was nonetheless a season of much progress in the league. Well done to Brian Mallon and Aidan Reilly for their work to date – championship is now the big test and the Bors will be hoping to build on their good league season.

U12 Cross Border Plate – Our U12’s travel to Leo Casey Park in Ballymahon on Thursday next in the U12 plate their opposition will be Forgney/Ballymahon. Last Thursday, we hosted St Vincents but despite a really good performance fell to an unfortunate 4-10 to 2-10 defeat.

Mohill had the better of the first half and lead at halftime by four points. Mohill 1-6, Bornacoola 1-2. The Bornacoola goal in the first half was an excellent finish by John (Barnes) Shanley. Mohill started the second half stronger and scored a number of points all of which were cancelled out by points from our lads. Mohill with 10 minutes to go scored a critical goal to leave them seven points up and set for victory. Credit to our lads they lifted their performance and outscored Mohill 2-4 to 0-1 to claim victory at the end. The second half goals coming from Cian Mallon and Tony Shanley. Vital points were also kicked over by Michael Duignan, Kevin Shanley, Jonathan Duffy and Trevor Howard. Mohill responded at the very end with an excellent move and a goal bound shot was deflected over the bar by the combined efforts of David Mulligan and Gerry Gearty to ensure victory for the Bors. Division 2 – The form of the Senior team continues its upward trajectory as they made it three wins in a row when defeating table-toppers Allen Gaels in Ballinaglera on Saturday evening last. The Gaels began the game at a blistering pace and completely dominated the first 15 minutes; however their dominance in possession only yielded two points and the Bors slowly gained a foothold in the game to lead by 0-5 to 0-2 at halftime, against the run of play. However, Bornacoola were the better team in the second half and thanks to some excellent scores from Damian Moran and Sean Mc Keon in particular as well as a great display between the posts from goalkeeper Conor Hackett, they fought their way to a 0-13 to 0-6 victory. This was our first time to enter this competition which pits our boys and girls together against opposition from Leitrim and Longford. It’s also this groups first time to play at 13 a side and in a competitive game. On Thursday, in what was a very entertaining game from start to finish with both teams moving to the front on different occasions it was Gortletteragh who ran out eventual winners on a score of Bornacoola 6-10 Gortletteragh 10-7. A big thank you to Ballinamore for travelling and providing ice pops. The team as follows; Conor Reynolds, John McGarry, James McDowell, Nessa O Riordain, Kian McCormack, Adam Molloy, Jack Naughton, Megan Molloy, Elana Kilrane, Noah Beck, Rian Shanley, Ruairi Lanigan, Keelan Lyons and Evan Bohan.

National Schools Final – Bornacoola NS Girls turned in a magnificent performance in their Shield Final with Aughavas NS on Tuesday evening but at the end of a most exciting encounter they just came out on the wrong side, suffering a two point loss. The Cumann na mBunscol final was played out in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada in 26° heat but that didn’t deter the girls as they went about their business in impressive fashion. Level at the break it was all to play for but two late goals for the Aughavas girls swung the verdict in their favour. Our girls can nonetheless be very proud of their performance as they displayed great determination and teamwork and will have many better days to look forward to if they continue their rate of improvement which has been most noteworthy thus far. Well done to all the coaches at both Bornacoola NS and Bornacoola GAA Club who have contributed yo the improvement in these girls performance levels. Needless to say, a massive well done to Emma Donelan, Megan Molloy, Grace Donlon, Jolie Lyons, Katelyn Boyle, Eimear Healy, Fiona Mulligan, Elana Kilrane, Orla Hackett, Blanaid Reynolds, Elly Conboy, Hannah Costello and Grace Duignan who formed this year’s school panel.

Swan Bar Division 2 – The Senior team made it two wins on the bounce when they travelled to Carrigallen and delivered an excellent performance on Saturday evening to record a 2-14 to 0-8 victory. Carrigallen played with the wind in the first half, but failed to take advantage and only held a single point lead at the interval; in the opening half Bornacoola scores from Conor Mc Cauley, Kevin Shanley, Ronan Mulligan, Sean Mc Keon and Ollie Vaughan had kept the scoreboard ticking over. A Ronan Mulligan goal early in the second period sent the Bors on their way to victory and by the time substitute Brian Conroy goaled in the dying minutes, the game was over as a contest. Team and scorers were: Conor Hackett, Brian Duffy, Jason Conroy, Kevin Mulligan, David Mulligan, Conor Mc Cauley (0-1), Liam Mulligan (0-1), Gary Mc Closkey, Allan Croghan, Cian Mallon (0-2), Sean Mc Keon (0-2), Kevin Shanley (0-1), Ronan Mulligan (1-4), Michael Duignan (0-1) and Ollie Vaughan (0-1). Subs Brian Conroy (1-1), Daniel Farrell, Gearoid Mulligan, Robert O’Beirne, Liam and Luke Jones.
