Championship Relegation

Up to an including 2005, championship status has been decided by league status. However, from 2006, league and championship competitions will be run exclusive of each other. Changes in the 2005 championships mean that seven teams will be relegated from senior status, six from intermediate and a further two from Junior A. (No teams will be promoted.)

Senior: The top two teams in each group (eight teams in total) qualify for the quarter-finals of the Senior Championship and will play in the Senior Championship in 2006.

The other eleven teams will enter the Senior B championship, where they ll be divided into two groups. The top two teams in each group will retain senior status for 2006, while all other teams will be relegated to the Intermediate championship. (The top team in each group will contest the Senior B final.)

Intermediate: Six teams will be relegated to the Junior A Championship for 2006. Four of these teams will be the teams that finish third and fourth in the two groups of four teams and the fifth will be the team that finishes third in the group of three after the first round robin stage.

The losing team in the two quarter-finals (Winner Group 1 v Runner-up Group 2, Winner Group 3 v Runner-up Group 1) and the losing team of the semi-final featuring the winner of group 2 v runner-up of group 3 will enter a further round robin competition, with the bottom team to be relegated to the Junior A Championship in 2006.

Junior A: The bottom team in both groups will be relegated to the Junior B Championship in 2006.
