TG4 Connacht Championship:

Leitrim were disappointed on Saturday afternoon last in Cloone when Roscommon failed to field a team for the first round of the Connacht Championship. Arriving with only twelve players, Roscommon conceded the game but sportingly stayed to play a thirteen a side challenge game with addition of one of their senior players. The game itself proved very one sided with Leitrim running out easy 4-14 to 0-3 winners, however it did give the home team some much needed match practice and they used the opportunity to give all of the players on the panel a run during the game. Leitrim?s next game in the Championship is in three weeks time against title holders Sligo, with the winners going through to the semi final while the losers will have to take a more difficult route in a quarter final game. Leitrim: Louise Loughlin, Emer Horan, Sinead Brennan, Lisa McGowan, Sharon Kerrigan, Mary McKeon, Teresa Mylott, Maeve Quinn, Sarah McLoughlin, Anna Conlan, Naomi Faughnan, Eilish Quinn, Sinead Quinn, Clare Owens. Subs Used: Emer Horan, Michelle McNulty, Carla Creegan, Erin Farrell, Emer McGlade, Amanda Sweeney, Emer McGlade, Ann Marie Cox, Phillipa Maguire, Alanah Bohan, Lorraine Brennan, Camilla McDonagh and Mairead Stenson.

Suzuki Ladies National League:

In the meantime Leitrim?s fate in the National League will be decided over the next couple of weeks with a quarter final game next weekend against Antrim and the semi final fixed for the following weekend. The game next weekend is likely to be played at a halfway venue but details will be finalised during the week. This game is unknown territory for as we nave never played Antrim before however, Leitrim should have enough experience to qualify for the semi final.

Opening of St Marys Pitch in Swanlinbar:

Club Leagues:

A full round of league games took place on Sunday morning as Mohill recorded a 2-11 to 1-07 win over Kiltubrid in Division 1. The final round of this Division on 14th May will see Mohill play Cloone while Kiltubrid face Aughawillan where wins for Mohill and Aughawillan would qualify both teams for the final on 21st May. However there is all still to play for as Kiltubrid are not out of the running yet but will have to defeat Aughawillan or hope that Cloone can defeat Mohill. In Division 2 St Josephs and Glencar Manor preserved their unbeaten start to the season as the Bornacoola v Ballinaglera game was rescheduled for Friday next. Glencar Manor ran out easy winners over St Marys with a 9.07 to 0.03 win while St Josephs recorded an equally comprehensive 3.14 to 0.10 win over Annaduff. In Division 3 Dromahair lead the way as they recorded their second win with a 2.17 to 3.02 win over Gortlettragh. Sean O Heslins are also unbeaten as they defeated neighbours Aughawillan by 2.11 to 0.05. Aughnasheelin recorded their first win of the league with a 2.09 to 0.00 win over Glenfarne.

9 a Side Leagues:

Next weekend will see the start of the 9 a side club leagues which have grown from strength to strength since they were introduced three years ago. Due to the absence of competitive football for club players in May and June because so many of our players are exam tied annually, the county board introduced a 9 a side league to cater for club players. All of the clubs are catered for in competitions at Senior, Intermediate and Junior level and the competition starts earlier this year because of the number of county games scheduled for April. All players on the county panel are excluded from this competition and unlimited substitution is allowed. The following games are down for decision next weekend: Senior – Aughawillan v Cloone; Kiltubrid v Mohill. Junior: Aughnasheelin v Gortlettragh, Fenagh v Dromahair and Sean O Heslins v Glenfarne.

Under 14 Club Leagues:

Underage activity begins next Saturday as the Under 14 competitions get underway. All games are at 12.00 and fixtures have been distributed to all of the clubs. See fixtures for details.

Presidents Award:

Congratulations to Ita Hannon of Mayo, former Leitrim player and County Secretary and current Connacht Secretary who received a Irish Examiner Presidents Award from GAA President Sean Kelly on Saturday week last at a ceremony in Croke Park. The Awards were first presented in 2004 to acknowledge the achievements and commitment of individuals throughout the Association by providing formal recognition of their work for and dedication to the GAA. It is a very well deserved award for Ita, who has been involved in Ladies football at all levels both a player and referee but her most significant contribution has been at administrative level where she has served very successfully at both County, Provincial and National Level for many years. All associated with Ladies football in Leitrim are very proud that two of the recipients recognised for their contribution to ladies football in the three years of these awards have had a major role in ladies football in Leitrim as Mary Quinn Fox was recognised with an award last year.
