LEITRIM V WATERFORD

Leitrim lost out to Waterford on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-10 in their first game in the 2010 National League on Sunday last (7/2/10) in Ballinamore.

Both sides had their periods of dominance in the first half and only a point separated them at half time as Waterford led 0-6 to 0-5.

Certainly, the loss of Phillip Howard through injury at half time was a major blow to Leitrim as he had contributed 3 excellent points from play in the first half.  However, Leitrim started the second half brightly and scored five points without reply between the 41st and 57th minute during which time Gareth Phelan made a trully remarkable save from a well taken penalty.  However, a strong revival in the last quarter saw Waterford turn a 4 point deficit into a 3 point win as they tapped over 7 points without reply in the last 12 minutes to leave Leitrim devastated at the final whistle.

Leitrim scorers: J Glancy 0-3 (3f), P Howard (0-3), P McGuinness, D OConnor, D Gilhooly, D Beck 0-1 each.

LEITRIM: G Phelan, B Prior, J McKeon, D Reynolds, D Beck, G Reynolds, J Glancy (St Marys), C Richardson, D Sweeney, P McGuinness, M Foley, C Regan, P Howard, J Glancy (Glencar Manor), D OConnor. Subs: T Beirne for D Sweeney, D Gilhooly for P Howard, E Mulligan for C Regan, A Croal for M Foley.
