Leitrim v Clare Match Report

Leitrim got their Allianz Division 4 League campaign off to an ideal start on Sunday last in Pairc Sean when they defeated 13-man Clare by 0-12 to 0-11.

Leitrim held the upper hand in the first half and scored some fabulous points but could and should have been further ahead than their 0-6 to 0-4 half time lead. Having lost a man to a red card just before half time, Clare were further reduced to 13 men five minutes into the second half but this only seemed to rejuvenate them. Leitrim were now finding it difficult to get their scores and Clare took advantage and took a two point lead with four minutes left on the clock. In a frantic finale Leitrim substitute and debutant Conor Beirne tapped over two frees and Wayne McKeon was the hero when he scored the winner in injury time.

On Sunday all supporters were heartened to see our young Leitrim players display the battling qualities we were accustomed to in the past. There were some fine individual performances throughout the Leitrim team and we all look forward to watching this young team gel and grow in confidence with each game. Keep up the good work lads. Well done to Paul Brennan (Melvin Gaels), Brian McDonald (Glencar Manorhamilton), Conor Beirne (Eslin) and Conor Sheridan (Melvin Gaels) who all made their Allianz League debuts and to the Leitrim supporters who really got behind the team.
