Kiltubrid GAA Club Notes 14/08/2018

Under 16 Fifty Year Reunion – The Fifty Year Reunion of Kiltubrid U-16 champions of 1967 and 1968 took place over the past weekend and a most enjoyable weekend was had by all. People travelled from the United States, England and many parts of Ireland to be present at the weekend events. It was a happy time for all the former players, some of whom had not met up in decades, and also for their families. The weekend celebrations started with Mass in St Brigid’s church in Drumcong, which was celebrated by Msgr Liam Kelly, for the deceased trainers and his former team mates who have died. Eleanor Shanley and Peter Farrell added greatly to the liturgy with their beautiful singing. It was followed by a group photograph and then a buffet meal in Cardiff’s where there was music and wonderful Sean Nós dancing by local children. Presentations were made to all the former players and also to the families of Tom Joe Mulvey, Noel Gilmartin, Eugene Leddy, Charles Egan and Peter Mulvey who are no longer with us. Presentations were also made to the family of the late Anselm Reynolds who trained the teams and to the family of Micheál Sweeney who assisted him. Also presentations were made to John Keaney and T.P. Keane who had helped with the teams back fifty years ago. Among those who spoke were Micheál Tighe, captain of the 1967 team, Francis Dwyer, captain of 1968 team, Peter Farrell, Seán Redican and Emmet Mahon, chairperson of the Kiltubrid GAA club.  On Saturday afternoon the group went on a tour of south Leitrim, enjoying the company and the chat and learning about some of the history of places that were part of all their early lives. Then there was a wonderful meal in the Lough Allen Hotel on Saturday night where the conversations continued late into the night. On Sunday afternoon they supported the present day Kiltubrid Intermediate and Junior teams who were in action with forty two players in all togged out representing their parish. It was a great weekend for both past and present Kiltubrid players and the future looks bright for the club which, in the words of T.S. Eliott ‘will take heart for the future remembering the past.’ The club is already planning for a bright future as they are fund-raising for an ambitious re-development of their club grounds. All in all a great weekend for the club and the parish!
