Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club Notes 20/12/2018

Season’s Greetings – We extend season’s greetings to all our club members, players, sponsors and supporters at home and abroad and we hope it is a very peaceful and happy time for everyone.  Special thanks to our friends in the media who continue to promote our club and in this regard we thank especially John Connolly, Willie Donnellan, Philip Rooney and all the staff in the Leitrim Observer who do a mighty job year in, year out promoting sport in Leitrim.

5 in a Row Leitrim U16 Champions – Our U16 girls ended our club season on a high by capturing the Leitrim Ladies Championship 15aside title for an historic 5th time in a row in Cloone last Friday night. An absorbing first half of cracking football seen the sides go in level at the interval – Ballinamore SOH 2-6 to Glencar Manor’s 3-3. Manor were the dominant side in the second half and won the contest on a scoreline of 6-4 to 2-9. Joint captains Hannah Gallagher and Leah Fox were presented with the trophy by the Chairperson of Leitrim Ladies, Michelle Reynolds much to the delight of their teammates, mentors and supporters. Special thanks to their coaches Tommy Gallagher, Martin Johnston, Christina Loughlin and Dolores McCann for mentoring the team all season and for leading them to this historic victory. With weather conditions particularly difficult on a cold December night in Cloone, both teams must be complimented on serving up a very entertaining game of football while credit must also be attributed to the Cloone club whose pitch held up very well given the conditions.

Club Christmas Table Quiz – We are hosting a Club Table Quiz in Gurns on Sunday December 30th at 9pm.  This is always a great opportunity to meet up with friends at home for Christmas.  €20 per table of 4 and as always your support would be greatly appreciated.

Club Academy – Santa will pay his annual visit to our club academy this Friday night in the Gym at St Clare’s Comprehensive School.  Families are asked to be in attendance by 7.20pm at the latest.

Match for Mark – The annual Match for Mark game between St Mary’s of Sligo and Glencar/Manorhamilton returns again this year on St Stephen’s Day.  Keep the date free, dust down the boots and see you in Kent Park for what has always been a great social occasion and opportunity to support a local charity in memory of St Mary’s and Glencar Manor’s former player Mark Rooney.  Details are being finalised and full fixture details will be issued shortly.

Sympathy – We offer heartfelt sympathy to the McGuinness family, Castle Street on the sad passing of Den McGuinness.  Den was involved in the first committee which set up our club in 1969, he subsequently held the position of Club Treasurer in 1970 and down through the years he was a great supporter of our fundraising activities and teams.  May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Club Lotto – Our last Club Lotto took place in SuperValu on 11/12/18.  Numbers drawn 3, 4, 24, 28.  The jackpot was €4,675 and unfortunately there was no winner.  Five consolation prizes went to John Francis Rooney (Gortnaskeagh) – yearly ticket, Catherine Ahearne (Tawneymoyle), Michael Clancy (Skreeney), Patrick Coco McMorrow (Glenfarne), Mark McTernan (Killargue).  Many thanks to everybody who continues to support our Lotto.  Next Jackpot €4,750.

New Arrival – Hearty congrats to Oliver and Elaine McBride on the safe arrival of their baby son Ciarán recently.

Old Club Jerseys – We are looking for people to search out their wardrobes, garages and attics in search of old club jerseys which were used by our adult and juvenile football and hurling teams in the club (male and female) in the following decades – the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s.  They are needed for our 50th club celebrations.  Please contact Collette Fox asap on 0866020192 if you can assist.

Heinz Beans Tokens – We are asking our club members and all underage parents to collect Heinz Beans tokens. If we have enough tokens our underage boys and girls teams could benefit with sports kits. The closing date is the 15th February, 2019.

Ladies Club History – In preparation for our club’s 50th anniversary in 2019, the ladies club are looking to dig out all old photos, match programmes, newspaper clippings or any other club memorabilia to help prepare a detailed history of the history of the ladies club. We are also trying to compile the names of all club officers/managers/club award winners since the club was formed – so if you were an officer/manager/award winner – please forward any information you can.  Please email any correspondence you have to glencarmanorladies@gmail.com.

Pitch Bookings – All pitch bookings for the Bee Park and Boggaun are to be made through Patrick McMorrow.  Patrick can be contacted on 0868973339.
