12 teams started this competition and 3 have guaranteed their place in the quarterfinals. The last round of the group stages are coming up with 1 top position to be decided inÓgroup 4 and all of the 4 groups have the 2nd position place to fight for.

The score difference criteria could impact on 3 of the 4 games to decide the placings. For the losers in each group its the relegation battle while the others go on to the quarters which will be next weekend fortnight.

Group 1

Final Game:   Drumreilly v Carrigallen

Status:
Annaduff are now in the Quarters on full points. Carrigallen and Drumreilly will decide the 2nd placing with Carrigallen needing to win and Drumreilly needing a draw as a minimum due to better score difference of -1 as against -6.  It ll be a close local derby in Cloone at 7pm on Saturday evening.

Group 2

Next Game:  Allen Gaels v Kiltubrid

Status:
Glencar Manorhamilton are through on full points while we have a Local Derby here as both teams fight the last place.  Kiltubrid have the better score difference so a draw is the minimum result needed for them.  Allen Gaels on the other hand know that a draw won t be enough as they have the added pressure of needing a win.  This group will conclude in Páirc Seán on Saturday evening with a throw-in of 7pm.

Group 3

Final Game:  Mohill v Sean O Heslins

Status:
Melvin Gaels are finihed in the group stage and they are in the Quarter finals with 3 points. The final game is between Sean O Heslins and Mohill who go into this fixture with 1 point from their previous drawnÓgame.   score difference won t apply in this group as Sean O Heslins need full points while a draw will be the minimum for Mohill.  The game is fixed for Cloone at 5:30pm on Saturday evening.

Group 4

Final Game:  Aughawillan v St. Marys

Status:
St. Marys share two points along with Bornacoola but last weekends score line leaves the Bors with a -4 score difference.   This means that they must sweat it out as they await the final game in their group.  Aughawillan must win if they intend getting into the Quarterfinals to take advantage of the better score difference over Bornacoola.   If St Marys win then they top group 4 and bring Bornacoola with them into the quarters.   This group will conclude in Páirc Seán on Sunday afternoon with a throw-in of 2pm.

Three of the Intermediate quarter final places are already known as we head in to the final round of the group stages inÓgroups 1, 3  while group 2 are at round 2 stage and group 4 placings to be confirmed.   This weekend should see two more places confirmed while the remaining two places will be decided 1 week later.  Relegation is also facing some teams as we look at the status of the groups:

Group 1

Final Game:  Annaduff v Aughnasheelin

Status:  with Dromahaire through to the quarters its between  Annaduff v Aughnasheelin to decide on the runner up spot.  Both teams had close teams against Dromahire and Aughnasheelin just lost by the smallest margins.  As a result they have the better score difference of -1 compared to Annaduffs -3.  A draw in this game and Aughnasheelin will go through with the better score difference and Annaduff head for the relegation playoffs.

Group 2

Next Game: Aughavas v Glencar/Manorhamilton

Status:  This group are a game behind the other 3 but with St. Marys win last weekend over Glencar/Manor the pressure is on Manor to survive this weekend as a loss will rule them out.  score difference will apply if Manor win this weekend and Aughavas beat St Marys next week, Manor will need to be aware of this.

Group 3

Final Game:  Drumkeeran v Ballinaglera

Status:  Cloone are in the quarters and Drumkeerin are nearly there in that they need a draw or better to go through.  Ballinaglera on the other hand need to win outright as they need all the points to better Drumkeerins 1 point.

Group 4

Final Game:  Gortletteragh v Fenagh St. Caillins

Status:  This group is almost decided upon as Gortletteragh and Fenagh are guaranteed a place what remains to be seen is in which order they come out of the group.  A draw and Gortletteragh will go through as table toppers due to score difference.  Glenfarne/ Kiltyclougher await the relegation playoff.

Weve 9 uninterrupted intense weeks starting this evening in the 2008 Intermediate and Senior Championship. The intermediates – commence at 7pm in Leitrim Gaels (Gortletteragh v Glenfarne /Kilty) but 1 hour earlier at 6 pm this evening in Cloone and Paric Sean the Senior season opens.

The format is the same as last year with the group stages being played over the next 3 weekends, then Qtr final stage, semifinals , ending with the Final which is scheduled for Sept 28th.

The big question in the Seniors is whether St. Marys can do a back to back title. Its a while since this has happened especially in light of the fact that the title has changed hands over the last number of years .

St. Marys had a great year last year when they won the Dick Ellis Senior Championship cup along with the League Title.  Their league performance this year has been poor but they appear to be coming good at the right time in recent weeks.

In Cloone and Páirc Seán at 6pm Senior teams inÓgroups 1 and 3 face each other as Drumreilly meet Annaduff and Mohill meet Melvin Gaels.

At 7pm in Leitrim Gaels the Intermediate championship opens with Gortletteragh playing Glenfarne/Kiltyclougher.

Back to Cloone and Páirc Seán for 7:30pm as Aughawillan v Bornacoola and Allen Gaels v Glencar Manor inÓgroups 2 and 4 take the field in the Senior competiton.

Its all Intermediate action tomorrow in Páirc Seán at 5:30pm when Ballinaglera take on Cloone and at 7pm Annaduff meet Dromahaire.
