Coaching Coaches

As a follow on from the launch of the new Fun –Do resource pack, a series of practical workshops for club coaches working with children from 8 to 12 years of age will take place during October and November. All clubs should ensure that their coaches at under 8, 10 and 12 attend as these workshops will give a sample of what is contained in the new pack. The first of these workshops was held in Manorhamilton on Thursday night last and was very well received by all those in attendance. A special word of thanks to the coaches both male and female who attended, to the children who took part and also to the Principle and staff of St. Clare’s Comprehensive for the use of their gym and their help in organising the evening. Workshops will continue over the next few weeks as follows.

Ck-on-Shannon – Thursday 18/10/07 – Sports Complex – 8.00pm.

Ballinamore – Thursday 25/10/07 – Sports Complex – 8.00pm.

Fun do Launch.

The launch of the new Fun do resource pack will take place in Pairc Sean, to night Monday 08/10 at 7.30pm. John Tobin will conduct the launch and all clubs and primary schools are asked to send a representative. This new Learning resource pack contains manuals on both football and hurling coaching along with a DVD and CD Rom on both. It will allow coaches to create their own sessions from the various exercises on the DVD, while also demonstrating how to teach the skills and recognise the common errors that occur with children. The new resource will be available to both clubs and schools at the discounted price of €50 and should become the standard manual for all coaching of children up to 12 years of age.

All – Ireland Final

We could not start this week without a special word of thanks to the Leitrim Ladies team and management for the pleasure they gave all of us who were lucky enough to be in Croke park on Sunday last. A special congrats to team captain Sinead Brennan, Michelle Reynolds, Catherin Holohan and Sinead Quinn who worked with us on this years Vhi Cul camps and to all other panel members who worked with us in the past few years. Congrats and well done to all.

Hurling News

Under 14 Hurling Development Squad.

This squad took part in the Veronica Connolly/Mickey Cunniffe tournament held in the Padraig Pearses grounds on Saturday last. We lost narrowly to Sligo and Roscommon B but had a good win against Mayo B. This concludes the season for this squad and we would like to thank all players for the effort they put in over the past few months and also to coaches Kevin Brisco, Bernard Murray and Daithi Hughes.

All – Ireland Final

First this week we must wish our County ladies team and management the best of luck in the All-Ireland intermediate ladies final in Croke Park on Sunday next.

 

Under 10 Blitz

Blitzes for under 10 teams will take place over the next two weekends, with two clubs at each venue. All blitzes will be played under Go-games regulations. First named club will host the blitz.

To all Clubs

Annual Club Facility Safety Audit.

All clubs are asked to have their grounds and facilities open to inspection teams who will commence their inspections this Saturday 15th September 2007 at 8 am. If a club is not visited on Saturday, inspections will continue next week on Monday evening 17th September until the exercise is complete.

First this week we must congratulate our County Ladies team on reaching the All-Ireland intermediate final. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the final.

Under 14 School of Excellence

This squad held their last session on Saturday last in Kiltubrid GAA park. Leitrim senior captain John Mc Keon spoke to the squad about the demands and rewards of playing inter-County football. We would like to thank all members of this squad for the work and effort they put in over the past few months and look forward to meeting them next year as under 15 squad members. We would also like to thank the clubs who made their facilities available for our sessions. A number of this squad will take part in a blitz in on Saturday next and for those selected to travel the following are the bus routes and times.

Our under 14 Hurling Development squad will take a break for a few weeks after last Saturdays blitz. Their next outing will be in the Veronica Connolly/Mickey Cunniffe in Roscommon on 22/09.

National Hurling Blitz weekend.

Last weekend we hosted the first under 14 C inter County hurling blitz. Six Counties took part and with the weather holding up we were treated to a great days hurling. In the end Louth overcame a gallant Longford in the final. We would like to congratulate all those who took part, our two referees and both Annaduff and St.Mary’s GAA clubs for the use of their facilities and the way they had their grounds prepared.

Summer camps.

This weeks hurling camp is taking place in Mohill and will be the final camp in the series. The camp will start at 10.00 am and will run for three days. There is no need to book for this camp, just turn up at the GAA park in Mohill.

There will be no session on this Saturday 18/08 for our under 14 squad. This squad will travel to Croke Park on Sunday next for the All Ireland semi Final. Bus times as follows. This squad had their first outing of the year in Kilbride on Tuesday evening last when they played Roscommon in two games. Both games were very close and while we lost out by a few points in both games, management were pleased with the progress so far. Forty eight young lads got their first taste of inter County football on the evening.

Please note that the venue for our Mohill camp may have to be changed due to the annual agricultural show. Full details next week.

Camps will be open to boys and girls and the cost will be € 25 per person. There is no need to book for these camps, just come along on the morning. Don’t worry if you are not a member of a hurling club as we will cater for all levels. All necessary gear eg. hurleys and helmets will be provided at each camp.
