Heartland Credit Union Secures Naming Rights to Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada

– Five-Year Sponsorship Deal will see stadium renamed Heartland Credit Union Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada

Leitrim, 3rd October, 2025 – Heartland Credit Union Ltd., proudly serving the communities of Annaduff, Mohill, Carrick-on-Shannon, and surrounding areas and common bond, is delighted to announce a landmark partnership with Leitrim GAA, securing the naming rights to the iconic Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. Under this new agreement, the stadium will now be known as Heartland Credit Union Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada.

This five-year partnership highlights Heartland Credit Union’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting local sport, culture, and community development in Leitrim.

According to Collette Brennan CEO of Heartland Credit Union

“We are delighted to partner with Leitrim GAA and support the incredible work happening at Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. The stadium plays a vital role as a hub for Gaelic games and a place where the values of teamwork, discipline, and community spirit are nurtured and passed down to future generations. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to community involvement and backing local initiatives.

She continued:

“Credit unions and the GAA share a strong bond — both are deeply rooted in their communities and rely on the dedication of local volunteers who give their time selflessly. This partnership feels like a natural and meaningful fit.”

Chairperson of Leitrim County Board Declan Bohan said: “On behalf of our officials, players, coaches, and supporters, we are thrilled to welcome Heartland Credit Union as our new naming rights partner. There are strong, existing links between the GAA Membership and Credit Unions at grassroots level, and this partnership strengthens those ties even further. Our spiritual home has been the stage for many unforgettable moments for our County Teams and our Clubs, and we look forward to creating many more at what will now be known as Heartland Credit Union Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada over the 5-year term of this partnership.”

This new collaboration between Heartland Credit Union and Leitrim GAA marks an important investment in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, helping to enhance its role as a central hub for Gaelic games and youth development across the county.

Leitrim GAA today unveils a refreshed Fixtures & Results section that respects two decades of tradition while embracing a cleaner, modern presentation.

Back in 2005, LeitrimGAA.ie introduced a new website with a distinctive fixtures/results colour scheme that quickly became part of how supporters followed club and county action online. While the website has seen multiple improvements since then — including a major platform upgrade in 2018 — the fixtures/results layout remained true to that original approach for 20 years.

The new version keeps that heritage in view while aligning with the GAA’s contemporary branding (green: football/purple: hurling) for fixtures and results. It also introduces club crests throughout — covering county squads and all Leitrim-based clubs — to make fixtures easier to scan on mobile and desktop, and to add a little extra club identity to every listing.

Crucially, nothing is lost: the Results Archive remains intact, with match results available all the way back to 2004.
Supporters, media and club volunteers can continue to look up historic scorelines and track progress through past campaigns in one place.

Here is a quick link to the common pages that attract thousands of visitors per week:
Today,     Fixtures Next 10 Days,    Results Last 10 days,    Competitions – Club,     Competitions – Coiste na nÓg,     Competitions – County

Club pages refreshed:
As part of this upgrade, all 23 club pages now have a refreshed layout: which includes an embedded Fixtures & Results panel specific to each club.

There is also a one-click “F & R of Associated Teams” view, ensuring amalgamated teams by grade/competition are covered—links that previously weren’t easy to find.

Each page also includes the club’s map location, plus direct links to the club website and social channels for quick follow-up.

The result is a consistent, mobile-friendly experience that keeps every club’s activity and associated teams in one place.

A Club Fixtures Focus panel is now available via the home page and also via the Club main page or the drop down menus on the side panels.

Avant Money era draws to a close after six years.

Leitrim GAA today marks the conclusion of its naming-rights partnership with Avant Money (formerly Avantcard), first agreed in 2018 and extended through 2024.

Since April, Avant Money has officially become a branch of the Bankinter Group, Spain’s fifth biggest bank that means it is now a fully licensed bank in the Irish market.

Chairperson of Leitrim County Board Declan Bohan said:
“Avant Money’s backing went far beyond signage.  The belief of their management in Leitrim GAA funded real improvements on and off the field.  On behalf of every official, player, coach and supporter, we are hugely grateful for the benefits of the term of this partnership.  We wish to thank all of the various personnel with whom we have engaged over the past six years, it has been a great pleasure.  We wish Avant Money the very best of good fortune in all its future business endeavours – Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir”

Avant Money’s own statement reads:
“Our six-year partnership with Leitrim GAA has been a source of immense pride and purpose.  From the outset, this sponsorship was about standing alongside a community deeply rooted in passion for sport.  It has been a privilege to support the county’s sporting ambitions and contribute to the growth of grassroots Gaelic games.  While the naming rights sponsorship has now concluded, our focus on meaningful community engagement continues through a wide range of local initiatives and charitable programmes.  We thank Leitrim GAA for the memories and wish them continued success on and off the field.”

In due course, Leitrim GAA will begin a process to secure a new naming-rights partner.

‘The Leitrim Gathering’ – 23rd – 25th May 2025

Connect, Celebrate, Share – The Leitrim Gathering offers a full weekend of events for all the family.

The countdown is on, and preparations are well underway for ‘The Leitrim Gathering’, a weekend of celebrations, taking place from May 23rd – 25th. An event for Leitrim people wherever they may be in the world, it will be a celebration of the unique qualities which make County Leitrim such a special place. A packed programme of events is scheduled, including literary, cultural, heritage, music, and dance events across the county.

Speaking about the event, Leitrim County Council Chief Executive Joseph Gilhooly explained, “The Leitrim Gathering allows Leitrim people worldwide to connect and celebrate place, culture and heritage. We have an extensive programme of exciting and varied events lined up throughout the weekend, with something of interest for all the family. I am encouraging Leitrim people everywhere to be part of the celebrations either by attending an event or sharing in the fun via social media. Help us make ‘The Leitrim Gathering’ a truly special occasion.”

Leitrim people living abroad who are unable to return home for this special weekend are encouraged to organise events wherever they are in the world and join in celebrating their Leitrim heritage by sharing their activities online using #LeitrimGathering. A warm welcome awaits those who can attend ‘The Leitrim Gathering’ in person, whether they now reside outside of the County, currently live in Leitrim or have made Leitrim their new home.

The response to ‘The Leitrim Gathering’ to date has been phenomenal. Community groups from all over the County have planned a series of original, energising and animating events. People will have the opportunity to visit north, south, east and west of the County to attend an event and while doing so, explore the diverse and breathtaking County Leitrim landscape as part of the weekend.

For more information on the Gathering, check out our social media on #LeitrimGathering and www.theleitrimgathering.com for further updates over the coming weeks and months.

Leitrim GAA regrets that it has to concede the Allianz Football League Round 6 game to Fermanagh which was due to be played in Ballinamore tomorrow.  The reasons for this are genuine and revolve simply around the availability of enough fit to play players to fulfil this fixture.

This weekend the Team Management has a total of 13 outfield players who are fit to play tomorrow, including two players who are just coming back from serious injury one of whom has been out for 14 months & has played only 12 minutes in the last game versus Offaly.  This does not include our two goalkeepers who are recovering from head injuries and are not fit to play.

In addition to this, six members of the panel are not available tomorrow due to the fact that they are in preparation for a Connacht Under 20 Championship match versus Galway on Wednesday evening next.

We must stress that the Leitrim players were very keen to play this game if it was at all possible but due to overall player welfare considerations and a duty of care towards the group for the greater good, we have had to take this unprecedented and unfortunate decision.  In reality, we could find ourselves with only 12 players on the field tomorrow.

The complete background to this decision includes the fact that in the preparation for this year’s campaign, an inordinate number of last year’s panel had declared themselves unavailable for the 2025 season and the current Team Management appointed at the end of October has had to deal with forming a panel in a much-delayed timeframe in which preparation only commenced in December.  Due to the unavailability of former players, they found themselves reliant on a large number of inexperienced players and younger players from the Under 20 age group.  The workload in preparation for this season has cumulatively taken its toll and a multiplicity of simultaneous injuries has brought us to this unfortunate situation, which has resulted as outlined.
