The AIB All Ireland Club Finals take place in Croke Park on March 17th. The Hurling Final between Portumna and Birr will get underway at 2.00pm and will be followed by the Football Final between St. Vincents and Nemo Rangers at 3.45pm. Admission to the finals is by ticket only.

Tickets for these games are currently available through Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and their website www.ticketmaster.ie. Tickets can be delivered by email or directly to the purchasers mobile phone.

Tickets cost €20 for adults and €5 for juveniles (U16). Students and Senior Citizens will receive a €10 refund on the cost of an adult ticket on production of current, valid photographic ID (Student ID must have an expiry date) at Block D turnstiles prior to entering the ground on the day of the game.

Tickets are also available from 11.30 a.m. from the following outlets on the day of the match:

§ ticket kiosk at Ballybough [under the railway bridge]

§ ticket kiosk at Dorset St [outside Martins Auctioneers]

The GAA have advised patrons to purchase their tickets in advance where possible to avoid delays at ticket outlets on the day of the games and to allow for extra traffic due to the St Patricks Day Parade in the City Centre area when planning travel times.

Clubs to avail of Complimentary Tickets for All Ireland Club Finals

The GAA are to offer four complimentary tickets to every GAA club in Ireland for the AIB All Ireland Club Finals at Croke Park on March 17th. The tickets are intended for use by club members in recognition of the voluntary commitment that has sustained the Association over the years. In order to obtain the tickets clubs have been asked to contact their County Secretaries who will ensure their distribution to the clubs in their respective counties.

Mr Nickey Brennan, President of the GAA said: "In recent years, we have explored ways to make the March 17th finals a more appropriate celebration of the contribution of our clubs to the Association. In this context, the stadium hosts the finals of the Seachtain na Gaeilge club quiz on St Patricks Day, club members are honoured in Croke Park for their contribution through the Presidents Awards scheme and we offer an opportunity to some of our Scór winners to perform as part of the overall entertainment on the day." He continued: "This year, we intend to take this theme a step further and are offering four complimentary tickets to every GAA club in the country."

He said the initiative was a small gesture to the broader membership in recognition of the support provided for Gaelic Games over the years and said he hoped it would be the first of many opportunities for the Association nationally to express their appreciation of volunteers in a practical manner.

The Club finals in Croke Park on St Patricks day will feature Portumna and Birr in the hurling final at 2pm and Nemo Rangers playing St Vincents of Dublin at 3.45pm in the football decider.

Congratulations from Leitrim GAA to John Harte, Sean OHeslins on the announcement that he is to receive GAA Presidents Award for 2008. Below is an excerpt of the press release from Croke Park and Johns citation bears out that he is a very worthy recipient:

The winners of the 2008 GAA Presidents Awards were announced today. The Awards were first presented in 2004 to acknowledge the achievements and commitment of individuals throughout the Association by providing formal recognition of their work for and dedication to the GAA. Among the winners are former players, coaches and officials from across the country who have contributed extensively to the GAA as well as to Handball, Ladies Football, Rounders and Camóige.

President of the GAA, Mr Nickey Brennan, extended his congratulations to the winners of the awards and paid tribute to their outstanding contributions to the Association in various capacities. He said: "This years winners have demonstrated in their own individual capacities the true spirit of volunteerism through their involvement with their Clubs and at County or Provincial level. The Association has always been fortunate to possess outstanding individuals who have served the Association with distinction and these awards are an opportunity to recognise the dedication and commitment of our members in a formal manner".

The Award winners will be honoured at a Banquet in Croke Park after the AIB All Ireland Club Finals on Monday March 17th at 5.30pm.

John Harte (Leitrim)

From the Sean OHeslins G.A.A. Club in Co. Leitrim, John is the epitome of a true, committed, loyal, energetic and dedicated club member. For the past 40 years he has been involved in every aspect of the club from participating in Scór to fundraising, to the promotion of hurling and is a past Chairman of the Ballinamore club – a position that is currently held by his son Conor.

Leitrim had three award recipients at the weekends Connacht GAA Presentation Banquet event in Castlebar. Barry McWeeney won the Personality of the Month award for January for his performance with Sligo IT. Later in the year Maeve Quinn won her award in the month of September for her fine contributions to the Ladies All Ireland winning campaign.

Kiltubrid received their Award for Club Grounds of the year and it was neighbours Tubbercurry who won the overall provincial award for Club grounds.

Two of Leitrims referees were also acknowledged amongst a list of referees that officiated in various Connacht finals. First up was Eamon OGrady for his role inthe U21 Football Championship and the Junior Club Football Final referee was Ray McBrien.

Congratulations to all worthy Leitrim recipients.

Michael McNamara, who played centre half-back for Sligo in last years historic Connacht SFC triumph, has been honoured with an award as the provinces leading GAA personality for 2007.

He was named as the Connacht GAA Writers Personality of the Year, in association with the TF Royal Theatre and Hotel, Castlebar.

It is a great honour for me, and also for the Sligo team. We had a great year in 2007, but now were back training in the muck and rain and hoping to do well again in 2008, said McNamara, after receiving the Michael McDonnell Perpetual Award, in memory of a former Connacht PRO who died suddenly almost two years ago.

GAA clubs promoting the Irish Language

There will be a meeting of the Oifigigh Gaeilge or Scór Officers from all of Leitrims GAA clubs in Páirc Seán MacDiarmada this Thursday night at 8.30. All clubs are asked to ensure they are represented at this meeting

The Connacht Council are organising a Cúrsa Gaeilge for club officers or members from the province on the weekend of 22-23 February.

Seachtain na Gaeilge Quiz

The annual Seachtain na Gaeilge quiz which starts at county level and ends up with the All Ireland Finals in Croke Park on St Patricks Day will take place in Leitrim on Friday 15 February in Smyths Siopa Ól in Ballinamore. This year three teams will qualify for the Connacht Finals from each County. The Connacht Finals are on 7 March

Gaeltacht Scholarships

Forms are mow available from club secretaries or from Irish teachers in secondary schools for GAA gaeltacht scholarships. Alternatively forms can be had from the Oifigeach Cultúir agus Teanga, Seán O Suilleabháin (071- 9644227). Closing date is 8 March

Scór Sinsear

Preparations are well underway in most clubs for this years Scór Sinsear which will start with the first rounds in Bornacoola on Friday 29 February and in Drumreilly on Saturday 1 March.

Leitrim Supporters Club Launch

Location:  Herbert Park Hotel, Dublin

Its that time of the year again for the launch of the Leitrim Supporters Club.  The Supporters Club was originally launched in 1986 and this year celebrates its 22nd Anniversary.

The Dublin launch is the annual get together of Leitrim Supporters in the Herbert Park Hotel in Dublin. All Leitrim supporters are very welcome to attend.
