Handball News : Connacht B Championships (U14 – U17) roundup.
Hard Luck to Gary Cox (Annaduff – U16), Dashiel Wilson (Manorhamilton – U14) and Peter Cox (Annaduff – U15) who despite giving their all, came up short against their opponents in the Connacht B championship played in St Coman’s Handball Club, Roscommon on Saturday morning last.
Peter Cox started strongly in his U15 semifinal against Roscommon’s Mark Farrell, taking their first game 15 to 14. However, Mark who was playing in his home alley, rallied to take the second game 12 to 15 sending this tight, tense match to a tiebreaker game. However, the young Roscommon man prevailed in the tiebreak game winning it on a 7 to 15 score.
In the U16 semi-final Annaduff’s Gary Cox came up against strong opponent in Roscommon’s Aron Lenord. Gary worked hard to get a foothold in the match, however playing on his home turf, Aron showed his slightly greater experience to win both games and match. Manorhamilton’s Dashiel Wilson gave it his best against the Galway’s Cillian Kirk in the U14 singles B Connacht Final, however with his greater 4-wall experience, the Abbeyknockmoy man always had the upper hand in the match.
Although disappointed with this weekend’s results, Peter, Gary and Dashiel will have learned a lot from their experiences in the 4-wall A & B championships this year and will come back stronger for it next year. 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘥𝘩𝘭𝘢́ 𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘣𝘗𝘢𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩!

Attention now turns to the Connacht B U11 – U13 boys and girl’s categories which will take place in Roscommon venues next weekend. Leitrim has an unprecedented 19 entries from across the county competing for titles!
The very Best of Luck to all our young competitors from Annaduff, Drumshanbo, Fenagh and Manorhamilton who are taking part.

Leitrim v London off – pitch unplayable
Club FootballThe referee Brian O Shea declared the Ruislip pitch unplayable at 12:15. No alternative venue was offered.
Some photos have been added to the Gallery showing the water logged pitch. Normally pictures can paint a thousand words but in this instance the water hides the sticky underfoot conditions were deplorable in many areas of the field with a definite risk to all concerned.

PRESS RELEASE – Allianz League Roinn 3 Rd 6 – Leitrim v Fermanagh – FIXTURE UPDATE
GeneralLeitrim GAA regrets that it has to concede the Allianz Football League Round 6 game to Fermanagh which was due to be played in Ballinamore tomorrow. The reasons for this are genuine and revolve simply around the availability of enough fit to play players to fulfil this fixture.
This weekend the Team Management has a total of 13 outfield players who are fit to play tomorrow, including two players who are just coming back from serious injury one of whom has been out for 14 months & has played only 12 minutes in the last game versus Offaly. This does not include our two goalkeepers who are recovering from head injuries and are not fit to play.
In addition to this, six members of the panel are not available tomorrow due to the fact that they are in preparation for a Connacht Under 20 Championship match versus Galway on Wednesday evening next.
We must stress that the Leitrim players were very keen to play this game if it was at all possible but due to overall player welfare considerations and a duty of care towards the group for the greater good, we have had to take this unprecedented and unfortunate decision. In reality, we could find ourselves with only 12 players on the field tomorrow.
The complete background to this decision includes the fact that in the preparation for this year’s campaign, an inordinate number of last year’s panel had declared themselves unavailable for the 2025 season and the current Team Management appointed at the end of October has had to deal with forming a panel in a much-delayed timeframe in which preparation only commenced in December. Due to the unavailability of former players, they found themselves reliant on a large number of inexperienced players and younger players from the Under 20 age group. The workload in preparation for this season has cumulatively taken its toll and a multiplicity of simultaneous injuries has brought us to this unfortunate situation, which has resulted as outlined.
