Sundays Leitrim senior club final in Páirc Seán saw St. Marys win by two points over Kiltubrid after a hard fought battle.
St. Marys held the upper hand on Kiltubrid from early on in the game but still struggled to build up a clear lead.
Matters were evenly matched in the opening fourteen minutes when St. Marys and Kiltubrid swapped two points.
In this period Christy Carroll and Dara McKiernan shot a point apiece for Kiltubrid while Clement Cunniffe and Ian McGreevy did likewise for St. Marys.
St. Marys claimed a three point lead by the 26th minute after Brian ODonnell, Gene Bohan and Jimmy Guckian scored.
Kiltubrid, who had not scored for twenty-five minutes, replied with a 30th minute Dara McKiernan point.
But St. Marys showed that they were very much in command when Jimmy Guckian and Gene Bohan shot points apiece, which sent their side in leading by 0 – 7 to 0 – 3 at the interval.
A goal by Kiltubrid sub John Paul ODonaghue cut St. Marys lead to the minimum within four minutes of the restart.
But St. Marys responded with three unanswered points over the next seventeen minutes whenÓgene Bohan converted two frees and Paul McGreevy shot over from play.
Chris Carroll reduced St. Marys lead to a point once again when he shot a 24th minute Kiltubrid goal.
Gene Bohan responded with a St. Marys free conversion in the next minute, which proved to be the games final score.
When St. Marys ‘keeper Anthony Conway denied a Dara McKiernanÓgoal chance in the following minute, it prevented Kiltubrid from pulling the game out of the fire.

Drumreilly dominated the exchanges against Aughavas from almost the outset in Sundays intermediate club final in Páirc Seán.
After Fintan McBrien opened the Scóring in the game with an early Aughavas point Drumreilly replied with five points on the trot to lead comfortably by 15th minute.
In this spell Declan Maxwell and Ollie Maguire shot two points each for Drumreilly and nÓgel Maguire added a point.
David Charles replied with a 22 nd minute Aughavas point but James Holohan and Ollie Maguire responded with points each, to give Drumreilly a 0 – 7 to 0 – 2 interval lead.
Drumreilly outgunned Aughavas by double scores in the second half when Declan Maxwell and James Holohan each added two points for Drumreilly with nÓgel and Ollie Maguire getting a point apiece.
Padraig McLoughlin replied two Aughavas points and Colm Maguire shot a point.

3 Champions
Club Football3 Clubs are now celebrating as the Junior A, Intermediate and Senior Championship titles went to new homes for 2007. In the Junior A game Annaduff overcame a strong Carrigallen challenge to win by a goal that was scored in injury time. This was an enthralling high Scóring game that ended Annaduff 2-11 Carrigallen 1-11.
On Sunday in Paric Sean with the stand full to capacity and many supporters around the ground it was the turn of the Intermediate and Senior Finalists.
The Intermediate encounter between Drumreilly and Aughavas failed to live to expectations and Drumreilly wont mind as they maintianed the lead throughout most of the game and will now play in the Senior grade for 2008. See Full Match report by PJ Leddy.
The Senior game was a better affair with St. Marys determined to make amends for last years loss and that they did. Like Drumreilly they also commanded the game once they got in front and always managed to get the points at vital times. Although a few defensive errors almost let Kiltubrid back in contention as a the last few minutes brought back some memories/nightmares for a few on and off the field. Leitrim ladies feature on the double in Croke Park Finals
LadiesLeitrim supporters will have an opportunity to support two teams in the Ladies All Ireland Finals in Croke Park on 23rd September when Kiltubrids Naomi Lee and Linda Tighe line out for London in the Junior Final in the curtain raiser of the three match programme.
While Leitrim were defeating Clare on Saturday, Linda and Naomi were playing in the All Ireland junior semi final against Carlow in Swords and enjoyed a close 4-08 to 3-09 victory to qualify for the final against Kilkenny.
Both Linda and Naomi are no strangers to Leitrim ladies football and enjoyed long playing careers together with Leitrim until their move to London in recent years to study and where they are now both employed. They enjoyed considerable success with Leitrim and were part of the teams that won the Connacht Junior Championship in 1999 and the National Junior League of 2000.

Programme 9: Aughawillan GAA Club in Co. Leitrim
Theres a saying in Aughawillan that, whenever a babys born in the parish, they always ask, "Is it a boy?". And well they might because Aughawillan is such a tiny parish (in a county that, itself, has a small population) that they need all the potential players they can get, and its the same for the ladies team.
The club was started in 1936, reached senior level in 1939, but suffered due to emigration and died out in 1963. In 1971 it was, again, revived and included players who had moved up to Dublin since 63. One such player is Frank Darcy who, with wife Phil, talks about how they managed, children in tow, travelling to Leitrim each weekend so he could continue to play.
Seán Ó Suilleabháin, a local historian, gives the history of Aughawillan, and also featured is Maeve Quinn, captain of the ladies football team.
The programme also looks at Leitrim county football on the back of the teams Connacht Football Final win the previous year against Mayo (in 1994) – a very special win for them. GAA All-Star Mickey Quinn and Tom Gannon (Leitrim Captain in 1927), talk about what its meant for the county.
Other contributors include: Patsy Prior, team coach; Pat Flanagan, club chairman; Syl McGovern, club secretary; Tommy Moran, Leitrim county board secretary and club member, Des Quinn.
Unfortunately, since this programme was first transmitted, both Syl McGovern and Tom Gannon have died.

First this week we must congratulate our County Ladies team on reaching the All-Ireland intermediate final. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the final.
Under 14 School of Excellence
This squad held their last session on Saturday last in Kiltubrid GAA park. Leitrim senior captain John Mc Keon spoke to the squad about the demands and rewards of playing inter-County football. We would like to thank all members of this squad for the work and effort they put in over the past few months and look forward to meeting them next year as under 15 squad members. We would also like to thank the clubs who made their facilities available for our sessions. A number of this squad will take part in a blitz in on Saturday next and for those selected to travel the following are the bus routes and times.

TG4 Ladies All Ireland Intermediate Semi-final

Clare 2 – 9
Leitrim battled determinedly to win Saturday evenings pulsating TG4 All Ireland Ladies intermediate championship semi-final over Clare by a point in Cavans Kingspan Breffni Park.
Second half goals by newcomers, Michelle Reynolds and Eileen Donaghue, provided Leitrims narrow victory platform and a place in the All Ireland final against Wexford in Croke Park on Sunday, September 23.
Following twenty-three minutes in the first half, it was level pegging on 0 – 4 all, with Clare getting on level terms after Leitrim had held a slight edge in the proceedings.
In this period Ann Marie Cox shot three Leitrim points and Eileen Donaghue added a point while Clare responded with three Majella Griffin points and a point from Niamh Keane.
An Áine Kelly point before the break gave Clare a 0 – 5 to 0 – 4 interval lead but Ann Marie Cox converted a Leitrim free within two minutes of the restart, to return the game to stalemate.
Over the next fourteen minutes the lead changed hands on three occasions with Áine Kelly and Fiona Lafferty hitting Clare points while Majella Griffin added a goal, to put the Banner women ahead by a point.
Meanwhile in this spell Leitrim responded with well-taken a Michelle Reynolds goal and a point from Ann Marie Cox.
Following that Leitrim went five points up after Michelle Reynolds and Eileen Donaghue shot 48th and 49th minutes goals.
But then a Clare rally cut the Leitrim lead to the minimum before the finish with Marie Kelly firing to the net and adding a point for the Munster women while Majella Griffin also shot a point.
During this Clare onslaught Leitrim hit back with a point from Ann Marie Cox, which at the end proved just enough for the win.

National Hurling Blitz weekend.
Last weekend we hosted the first under 14 C inter County hurling blitz. Six Counties took part and with the weather holding up we were treated to a great days hurling. In the end Louth overcame a gallant Longford in the final. We would like to congratulate all those who took part, our two referees and both Annaduff and St.Mary’s GAA clubs for the use of their facilities and the way they had their grounds prepared.
