The County Champions St Marys won the All County League Division 1 final in fine style as they racked up an impressive 3-13 to Melvin Gaels 2-09 to make take the double title for 2007. The game was played in near perfect conditions in Páirc Sean with only a slight cross field breeze to contend with.
Melvin Gaels, playing towards the N4 end, opened the Scóring within the 1st minute with an Emelyn Mulligan free within the 1st minute. Ray Mulvey opened St. Marys account 90 seconds later with a shot from play. He followed this up with another point from play and this was quickly followed by a Clement Cuniffe shot onÓgoal which was saved by Liam Gilmartin. Paul McGauran left the scores 0-2 each after 5 minutes. Emelyn Mulligan dropped a shot short into James McGowan but with his next play he registered a point from a free from 32m out. Gene Bohan brought the sides level again with a point from a free. Brian ODonnell followed up immediately with a point from play off the kickout and Liam McTiernan continued the Scóring for St. Marys and registered his first point of the half. Mulligan was called on again to bring the score difference to 1 point as he slotted over from another free.
In the 18th minute Brian ODonnell scored a point from play and 1 minute later Ian McGreevey scored a rasper of a goal after a defensive overlap on the Gaels to leave the score 1-06 to 0-4. St. Marys were dominating in many areas including the crucial midfield sector but 2 subsequent drives ended in wides over the next 3 minutes. This was St. Marys last score of the half but the Gaels werent finished. In the 24th and 30th minutes Emelyn Mulligan was called on again to register 2 points from frees and this left the teams with 1 goal separating them at the interval. Melvin Gaels started the second half as they did the first with Emelyn Mulligan pointing another free. In the 3rd minute directly in front of the goals Mulligan, from a free, had a gilt edged chance to bring the sides to within 1 point but he miss kicked and dropped the shot which was cleared by the St. Marys defense. This woke St. Marys up and they played open football which lead to their second goal in the 7th minute and a second for Ian McGreevey. This goal came from a series of hand passes from the 45 in towards the N4 goals with the final pass from Jimmy Guckian to McGreevey just outside the box who had no difficulty with a low cross shot into the back of the net.
St. Marys never looked back after this as the clocked up another 4 unanswered points from Michael Greene, 2 from Ray Mulvey and the 4th from Jimmy Guckian. Conor SheridanÓgot 1 point back in the 17th minute for the Gaels and some minutes later Stephen McGauran found the net after a series of passes from Gearoid Foley and Emelyn Mulligan.
Clement Cuniffe pointed from play for St. Marys and following the next kickout he had a point blank shot saved by Liam Ferguson. With the scores at 2-11 to 1-08 the next move from Ray Mulvey put the game out of reach for Melvin Gaels as Mulvey side stepped a defender to face the keeper one to one and he lobbed the ball into the back of the net. Gene Bohan added a point from a free and Stephen McGauran added one for the Gaels. Gene Bohan brought St. Marys tally to 3-13 with another point from play. With 3 minutes of injury time played Melvin Gaels reduced the final score difference with a fine goal from Stephen McGauran.

Scór na mBunscoileanna
There is just over a week to go to Scór na mBunscoileanna and with all schools on their mid-term break this week, some schools still have to confirm their entries. Any school that hasnt done so please ring Maura Mulvey by next Monday evening at the latest. Details of which school is at which venue will be on the leitrimgaa.ie website on Wednesday evening.
The two venues are: Gortletteragh on Thursday 8 November and Ballinamore on Friday 9 November, both evenings starting at 6.30pm. Both evenings will start with Trath na gCeist as the first item, so schools are asked to heave their quiz teams there promptly at 6.30. The Trath na gCeist will be run as a table-type quiz. All of the other items will follow in the normal Scór order with Rince Foirne first, followed by solo singing, ceol uirlise, recitation, bailéad ghrúpa etc.

Preparations are in full swing in many clubs for Scór na nÓg which will be on 8 and 9 December in Ballinamore and Carrick on Shannon respectively.

Allianz National Football League 2008 – Division 3
County FootballIts the long road for Leitrim in 2008 in the National League as 3 of our 4 away games are long journeys except the relatively short trip up the N4 to Longford. The format of the New Division 3 consists of the following counties:
Limerick, Fermanagh, Louth, Down, Wexford, Sligo, Longford and Leitrim
We have 3 home games to Fermanagh, Sligo, Down while we are scheduled to play 4 away games to Louth, Longford, Wexford and Limerick.
The draw was made recently by the national CCC and the fixtures were approved by an Coiste Bainistí yeaterday (Saturday) at a meeting in Croke Park. This year a number of games in Divsions 1, 2 and 3 will be played on Saturdays evenings under lights however that wont be the case for Leitrim as all of our games are scheduled for Sunday afternoons starting on February 3rd. They games are scheduled on a fortnightly basis thereafter except for the last 2 rounds and the ordinary rounds conclude on April 13th. The main rules are as follows:
Each Team to play 7 Ordinary Rounds.
The top 2 Teams contest the Roinn III Final.
The top 2 Teams are promoted to Roinn II.
The bottom 2 Teams are relegated to Roinn IV.

This insurance information night takes place on Monday 5th November in the meeting room of level 3 of Ardan Mhic Samhrain, Pairc Sean starting sharp at 8 pm.

LadiesVHI Connacht Club Championship; Hard luck to Aughawillan who were defeated by Corofin in the semi final on Sunday in Leitrim Gaels pitch. A flying start by Corofin and a number of misses when Aughawillan were on top in the first half left them trailing by seven points at the break but with a wind advantage to come. Despite a great effort to get back into the game, Aughawillan were foiled each time by a superb defensive display from the Galway side who also displayed some excellent team scores. Corofin now advance to the Connacht Final against Carnacon of Mayo next weekend.
Intermediate B Championship: St Marys qualified for the semi final on Sunday morning with a hard earned win over Bornacoola in Fenagh and will face St. Josephs next weekend. In the other semifinal Glencar Manorhamilton defeated Ballinaglera by two points and have qualified for the final on 4th November.
County Board Meeting: A meeting will take place on Tuesday next 30th October in Arus Padraig, Drumshanbo at 9.00pm
People in Need Telethon: Stars of the past and future will feature in a game organised by Mary Brennan in Cloone on Sunday next at 3.00pm as part of a number of activites to raise funds for the People in Need telethon. Many of the 1988 and 2007 All Ireland winning ladies players will display their talents and your support for this worthy cause would be appreciated.

As a follow on from the launch of the new Fun –Do resource pack, a series of practical workshops for club coaches working with children from 8 to 12 years of age will take place during October and November. All clubs should ensure that their coaches at under 8, 10 and 12 attend as these workshops will give a sample of what is contained in the new pack. The next workshop will take place in Ballinamore sports complex on Thursday night next 25/10 commencing at 8pm.
The final workshop in the series will take place in Gortletteragh community centre on Thursday night 01/11/07 commencing at 7.30pm.
Level One Coaching Course.
