Leitrim GAA are delighted to announce the selection of Stephen Goldrick, Leitrim Gaels as captain of the Leitrim Senior Hurling Team for 2024 and Gavin O Hagan, Cluainín Iomáint (Glencar Manorhamilton) and Conor Hackett, St Mary’s as Joint Vice Captains.

We wish Stephen, Gavin, Conor and the entire Squad and Management every success for the 2024 playing season.

 

 

 

 

Gaeltacht Grants 2024

Leitrim Co Board GAA in conjunction with Comhairle Contae Liatroma is offering grants for attendance at Gaeltacht courses to Leitrim boys and girls as part of their promotion of an Ghaeilge. A number of grants for €300 and €200 will be awarded. These grants are open to boys and girls living in County Leitrim.

 

Application forms can be found on the link leitrimgaa.ie/gaeltacht and can be completed and submitted online.

 

The closing date for applications is Thursday 1 March 2024.   A draw will be made to select the successful candidates.   When students return from the Gaeltacht, they can claim their grant money on production of evidence of having successfully completed the course.

Following Monday night’s meeting of the Leitrim GAA County Committee, the following are the decisions taken concerning motions submitted to Convention 2023, which were referred to the County Committee 2024.

Motion 1

2024 Senior Football Championship

Senior Football Championship to consist of 10 teams with rounds 1 to 4 to be an open draw. The draw, if possible, and at the discretion of CCC Liatroma, to take place on the weekend prior to the following weekend’s set of games. The draw to factor in that each club to have two home and two away games at the round-robin stages. Teams can only play a team once in the group stages. After the round-robin games are complete the top 2 teams with the highest number of points automatically qualify for the semi-finals with the teams that finish 3rd to 6th to play off in the quarter-finals. (3rd plays 6th, 4th plays 5th). At semi-final stage the 2 top ranked teams, after the group stages, to be placed on opposite sides of the draw. The teams finishing 7th to 10th to play in relegation semi-finals (7th plays 10th, 8th plays 9th) with the two defeated teams to be relegated to IFC 2025, the winning teams to play a relegation final with the defeated team to also be relegated to play IFC 2025.

Net Result: SFC 2025 to comprise 8 teams

2024 Intermediate Football Championship

Intermediate football championship to consist of 10 teams with rounds 1 to 4 to be an open draw. The draw, if possible, and at the discretion of CCC Liatroma, is to take place on the weekend prior to the following weekend’s set of games. The draw to factor in that each club to have two home and two away games at the round-robin stages. Teams can only play a team once in the group stages. Two groups of 4 with each team playing each other in round-robin series. The top Team in each group qualifies for the Semi-final, second and third-placed teams play each other 2 v 3 and 3 v 2 across the respective groups. Semi-Final Draw to ensure that the top-placed teams avoid each other at this stage. Winner of Junior A Football Championship promoted to IFC 2025. The bottom-placed team in each group to play each other in the relegation final with the defeated team to be relegated.

Pot A   2023 Defeated Finalist plus 2023 IFC Relegated Team. (2 Teams)

Pot B   2023 Beaten Semi-Finalists (2 Teams)

Pot C   2023 Beaten Quarter Finalists (2 Teams)

Pot D   2023 Remaining Team plus Junior B Championship Winners 2023 (2 Teams)

Net Result: JFCA 2025 to comprise 10 teams.

2024 Junior B Football Championship (8 Teams)

Two groups of 4, inclusive of the relegated team from the JFC A 2023, and the six remaining teams that competed in JFC B 2023 and JFC C winners 2023, with each team playing each other in a round-robin series. The top two teams in each group will play semi-finals (1 v 2 and 2 v 1). Winner of Junior B Football Championship promoted to JFC A 2025. The bottom-placed team in each group to play each other in the relegation final with the defeated team to be relegated to the Junior C Football Championship 2025. There shall no seeding in this draw.

 

Net Result: JFC B 2025 to comprise 8 teams.

2024 Junior C Football Championship 2024 (8 Teams)

Two groups of 4, inclusive of the relegated team from the 2023 Junior B Championship, plus any additional teams that are eligible and participating in 2024. The top two teams in each group will play semi-finals (1 v 2 and 2 v 1). In the event of there being six or nine teams, these will be placed in groups of 3 teams each, if seven teams these are placed in groups of four and three respectively. In a three-group scenario, semi-finalists will comprise the top team in each group and the best-placed runner-up across the three groups. No two teams from the same group meet in the semi-final. Winners of JFC C to be promoted to JFC B 2025. There shall be no seeding in this draw.

 

GAA Code 11.1 2024 to apply in determining final group placings in each of the above championships.

 

Draws for the Junior A, B, and C Football championships shall be made to establish the groups in accordance with the above. CCC Liatroma shall retain to power to determine the order of games to be played at the round-robin stages of Junior B and C Football Championships.

In all of the above Championship Series Rule 6.21 TO 2024 shall be used to determine ties at the concluding stages of Round Robin Championship formats.

2025 Senior Football Championship

Semi-Final Draw to ensure that the top-placed teams avoid each other at this stage. Winner of Junior A Football Championship promoted to IFC 2025. The fifth-placed team in each group is to be relegated to JFC B 2026. The fourth-placed team in each group to play a relegation final with the defeated team also relegated to JFC B 2026.

Each club shall supply at least one active referee for all competitions to the panel for refereeing club games within Leitrim. New referees, once trained, will be appointed to officiate games initially in the underage games structure.  Failure of a club to provide a referee for the training/games programme in 2024 will lead to sanctions incorporated into the 2025 programme.

(Such a placement be to give a better standard of football to these eligible players, and that the team is confined to Division 3, and irrespective of their performance in said league, promotion to ACL Division 2, be confined to the two best-placed First Teams).

New GDC
Leitrim GAA are pleased to announce that Jack Casey has joined the coaching and games team in the role of GDC.
Jack hails from Oran in County Roscommon and has been working as a Games Promotion Officer with Westmeath GAA since February 2021.Jack is a graduate of IT Carlow with a degree in strength & conditioning. He has completed his Award 1 coaching qualification and is currently working towards the Award 2 qualification.Jack is currently playing football with his club Oran and has previously played with Roscommon from minor up to senior.Leitrim GAA extends a warm welcome to Jack and wishes him every success in his new role.
New Leitrim GDC Jack Casey is welcomed to his new role by current GDC’s James Mitchell and Cormac Haslam.

Leitrim GAA Supporters Club will charter a bus to the Allianz League Division 4 League Round 1 encounter with Waterford in Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Sunday, January 28th, if there are sufficient numbers interested.
