County Team – Best of luck to Aidan, Brendan, Colm and the Leitrim senior team as they start their 2018 season. They play their first game of the year this evening under lights in the centre of excellence at 7pm against Roscommon.

Well Wishes – The club wishes a speedy recovery to one of our founding member Tommie Padden who was in hospital recently.

Scor – Well done to our Figure dancers Nicola, Lauren, Kayla, Willow, Anna and Ruby and to our Solo Singer Johnny who all proudly represented the club in the Scór an nOg Leitrim Co. Finals in Ballinamore on Sunday last.

Player Pathway – The Player Pathway has been launched recently and the club is seeking members for Underage committee nominations. If you have any questions please contact any committee member.

5k Run/Walk – 5K Run/Walk in aid of the IHCPT on St Stephens Day, race starts at 12 sharp. Registration is from 10.30am to 11.40am at St Joseph’s Hall, Leitrim Village.  The organising committee is looking for stewards to do marshalling on the day and volunteers for registration and timekeeping. All are welcome to participate.

Club Meeting – Club meeting to be held on Friday 29th December at 9pm in the clubhouse. All welcome to attend.

Merry Christmas – We wish all our members, supporters and sponsors a very happy and peaceful Christmas and prosperous new year. Many thanks to anyone who helped out in the club over the past 12 months it is much appreciated and will hopefully continue into 2018.

AGM – Thankyou to everyone who attended our AGM on Sunday last. The club enjoyed success from underage to adult level and represented the community very well. We welcome new members to the committee, Noeleen Geoghegan has taken on the underage secretary, Gerry Curley will be the club’s Coaching and Development Officer and Niamh Spellman who will be assistant PRO. Anyone interested in joining the Finance Committee please contact Bryan Whitney. The Player Pathway document was launched and this document will be sent to all members and underage committee to be formed.

Congratulations – Well done to Community Games team on Juvenile Team of the Year award at the Leitrim Sports Stars awards last Friday. Also Liam Moreton and Matthew Early on their nominations.

Underage Presentation – the Club wishes to thank Mayo and Ballina’s double All-Star Winner David Clarke for coming to present medals on Sunday last. It was great to get his perspective on football and also taking questions from some of our future stars. As we end another year with medals for the Under 10 Community Games All Ireland Winners, Under 12’s Colmcille’s, Under 12 Longford league finalists, Under 13 league, Under 15 Championship, Under 17’s league and championship medals. It was great to see the future stars of Leitrim Gaels. Well done to all involved, parents, mentors, coaches and committee.

Quiz Night – Thank you to everyone who supported the Table Quiz last Friday night. Firstly, We must thank David and Carmel Carthy for the use of their premises, providing finger food and sponsoring a spot prize in the raffle. We also are grateful to Richard Reynolds who sponsored a spot prize and who donated the prize money his team won in the Quiz back to the club. Well done Richard. Thanks to Mark Chandler, Imelda McManus, Noeleen Geoghegan, Donna Flynn, Ciaran Corcoran, Niamh Spellman and Linda Gavigan who ensured the Quiz ran off smoothly. Lastly thanks to Dessie Doyle who set the questions and left the Quiz so easy to run off in his absence.

Leitrim Sports Awards – We would like to take this opportunity to Congratulate our very own Liam Moreton, Matthew Earley and Carrick Area U10 Community Games Team on their nominations for The Leitrim Sports Star Awards 2017.

Best Wishes – The club wishes Jim Flynn, his dancing partner Cathy Smyth and Ballinamore Sean O’ Heslins every success in their Strictly Come Dancing Fundraiser in Slieve Russell Hotel on Saturday night next 18th November.

All Star – Well done to Liam Moreton on being selected as a Lory Meagher All-Star for his contribution towards getting Leitrim to Croke Park earlier this year. It’s the second such award for the Moreton family after Colm was a recipient last year. Great to see our club man honoured surrounded by the greats of our games.

Quiz Night – The Club are holding a table quiz in Carty bar on this Friday 10th November at 9pm. Come along for a great night of fun with plenty of prizes on the night. Tables of 4 €40.

Wedding Bells – Congratulations to Keith Naughton who married Donna Carson last weekend, from everyone involved in the club. Wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness together.

Halloween Disco – Thank you to all the committee who did a wonderful job in having the hall looking so spooky and entertaining the children in a superb evening for parents and kids alike. We hope to build on this and make it bigger and better next year.

Dunnes Bar ACL Division 2 Final – Saturday was not our day, we played second fiddle to Ballinaglera who made advantage of the first half wind and left our Gaels with an uphill battle to fight back. Although some superb scoring from Colm Moreton, we lost by a point 0-10 to 0-09. We congratulate Ballinaglera and are looking forward to playing them in Division 1 next year. We wish James Flynn speedy recovery after he suffered a knock towards the end of the game. Mal and the team would like to thank all the supporters who were there both on and off the field and supported the team in both league and championship. Keep the flag flying.

Congratulations – Congratulations to former player Ray O’Rourke who married Aileen Meenagh from Tyrone on Saturday last. On behalf of the club, we wish them both a lifetime of happiness together.

Under 17’s – Well done to Joe Casey, Benny McLoughlin and John Donegan on the work they put into the Under 17 team to have the team so well primed for the County Final in their 5-16 to 1-08 win over Allen Gaels. Goes without saying the praise must ultimately go to the players for such a terrific display. Congratulations to each and every one of you and thanks to the supporters who turned up on Saturday. Scorers were Shane Finn3-1, Stephen Goldrick2-8, Shane Rynn 0-2, Donal Casey, Donal Moreton, Jack Aldridge and Oisin Curley 0-1 each.

League Final – All roads lead to Ballinamore for the Division 2 League Final against Ballinaglera in Ballinamore at 4:15 on Saturday. We would like our 16th man to be present to cheer on the lads, as Ballinaglera will eager to halt the Ferocious Gaels.

Carrick Hurling – Well done to Declan Deegan, Liam, Colm, Enda Moreton and the Carrick hurling club who captured the county hurling title on Saturday last. Well done to Colm who was presented with the Man of The Match award.

Intermediate

 Sunday was simply not our day, we lost out to a far more deserving Aughnashellin side who were more hungrier to win from the start. We wish Aughnasheelin all the best in Connaught and in the senior championship next year. Well done to all the players and to Mal, Peter and Karl for giving us some terrific displays of football in the last few weeks and bringing every soul in the village and surrounding area together for joy and belief. Thanks to the supporters for coming out in great numbers. Of all four team on Sunday, it was evident that it was our Gaels who got the most behind our team and supported them. Our focus now turns to the under 17 final on Saturday and division 2 league final the following weekend, and we urge all our supporters out again to roar on the “ferocious” Gaels.

Turn the Village Purple and Green

What each and everyone did just showed the community and spirit. To all the sponsors and supporters the club, players and committee cannot thank you all enough. With the under 17 final and league final we want everything left up.

Under 17’s

The under 17 final is this Saturday at 12pm against Allen Gaels in Pairc Naoimh Mhuire Carrick. Please come out and support the lads who will form the senior panel in the next few years.

League Final

The league final against Ballinaglera is set for the weekend of 21st/22nd October.

Intermediate – All roads lead to Pairc Sean on Sunday at 1:30pm  as the first Leitrim Gaels team take to the field for the clubs first Intermediate County Final. The team has proven that you don’t just show up and be given the right to a final by seeing off Fenagh and Drumkeeran. They face a very good Aughnasheelin side that has the experience of playing Division 1 football and will be just as much up for the game as we are. We want everyone out in support of the team on Sunday and look forward to a fantastic day. Win/Lose or Draw the team has had a fantastic year and taken the Club to a new historic level, bring on Aughnasheelin to the “ferocious” Gaels.
