A Celebration of Enda Colleran

Friday April 28th, Saturday April 29th and Sunday April 30th

A life-size bronze statue of the late, great Enda Colleran will be unveiled by incoming G.A.A. President Nickey Brennan in Endas native Moylough, Co. Galway, on Saturday April 29th at 6.00 p.m.

The ceremony will also feature a special tribute to Enda by his club and county team-mate Johnny Geraghty, goalkeeper on the Galway All-Ireland three-in-a-row team in the mid-1960s.

The organising committee behind the project, and a weekend of special activities, are inviting to Moylough and Mountbellew all former players, mentors, officials and supporters from within and outside the county whose paths crossed Endas during his glittering career.

Several special events will reflect Endas abiding interest in fitness, personal health and coaching, commencing on Friday night, April 28th, with the Enda Colleran Sports and Health Forum at the Franciscan Agricultural College, Mountbellew, at 8.00 p.m.

The panel of expert speakers will comprise Mickey Harte, who twice managed the Tyrone senior football team to All-Ireland Championship success, speaking on “Balance and Moderation in Team Preparation “; Corks All-Ireland winning hurling Manager in 2004, D?nal O Grady, who ll speak on “Winter and Summer Training Schedules in Hurling “; Professor Niall Moyna, Head of the School of Health and Human Performance, Dublin City University, and Manager of the DCU Sigerson Cup winners 2006, speaking on “The Importance of Exercise in the Development of a Healthy Young Population, ” and Eddie Osullivan, acclaimed coach of the dual Triple Crown winning Irish rugby team, dealing with “Being Fit to Compete. ”

This major seminar is aimed at everybody interested in sports fitness and the health and welfare of all participants, of all ages, in sport.

Outdoor activities include a Football Challenge featuring a visiting adult team, Garryowen from London, and under-age football “Blitzes ” for boys and girls, at Moylough Sportsfield, and an U-14 hurling Blitz at Mountbellew GAA grounds. These events will also feature visits by Galway county football and hurling stars, and all young participants will be presented with an Enda Colleran commemorative medal and t-shirt.

The commemorative life-size bronze statue, by renowned sculptor John Coll of Galway ? whose Secondary School teachers at Col?iste Einde included Enda Colleran will be unveiled by Nickey Brennan at Moylough Town Square at 6 o clock on Saturday evening, April 29th. It will be blessed by Endas brother Fr. Gabriel Colleran and the priests of the parish.

Later that evening, there will be a Parish Social, organised by the local Community Council, at Moylough Community Centre.
