2023 Humphrey Kellegher Cup – Another excellent victory for Leitrim U15s

LEITRIM 4-21   CARLOW 2-10
Leitrim maintained their 100% record in the Humphrey Kellegher Cup with facile victory at a sunny Carlow Training Centre yesterday. Leitrim led from pillar to post and their victory was never in doubt. After an initial period of pressure, Carlow converted from a placed ball to take an early lead but that was as good as it got for the Barrowsiders.
Leitrim kicked into gear over the next few minutes with early points from Conor Reynolds and Jack Attard to lead on 4 minutes. After a missed goal chance, Leitrim made amends very quickly over the next 5 minutes as they finished off 3 wonderful moves with goals through Jack Prior, Thomas Gunn and Ronan Fox. Carlow responded with another placed ball to leave Leitrim 9 points to the good after 15 minutes. The remainder of the opening period saw Leitrim tag on 6 more points through Sean Gaffney(2), Jack Attard(2), Conor Reynolds and Ronan Fox while Carlow added 3 of their own to leave the half-time score Leirim 3-8 Carlow 0-5.
Leitrim continued the 2nd half in much the same vane as the 1st. Senan McGowan, Jack Moolick and Sean Gaffney(2) stretched Leitrim’s lead before Carlow added 2 points of their own. Carlow then got through for their first goal but this was quickly cancelled out as Leitrim added points through Jack Prior, Jack Attard(2) and Senan McGowan.
Carlow got in for a 2nd goal in the 46th minute but again Leitrim responded with a wonderful 50-yard run by Jack Moolick that culminated in a clinical finish to the back of the Carlow net by the big midfielder. As the game reached an inevitable conclusion, 7 points were exchanged between the sides as Jack Attard, Conor Reynolds, Sean Gaffney and Jack Prior rounded off the scoring for a 2nd comprehensive victory in the Humphrey Kellegher Cup. With games to come against Fermanagh and Clare, Leitrim know one win may well be enough to propel them into the semi-final.
