Lotto – There was no winner of the Lotto last Saturday night. Leitrim County Finals – Congratulations to Aughawillan on winning the Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship on a beautiful day in front of a crowd of 3,700 at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada.  Good luck to Fenagh (St Caillins) and Annaduff in their Smith Monumentals Leitrim Intermediate Football Championship replay on Sunday 21stin Pairc Sean at 2pm.

ST JOSEPH’S BOY’S: Well done to our U15’s with two important victories during the week.  On Monday evening last we travelled to Kilturbid and after a close first half we pulled away to win comfortably in the end.  It was a similar story on Friday evening when Annaduff came to Carrigallen. Next game is against Fenagh in Fenagh on Saturday morning and the boys will be hoping for victory here also to be sure of a semi-final place.  Good luck to the team and management.  Good luck to all the St Joseph’s players and team mates on the County U16 team that take on Longford on Saturday morning in the Fr. Manning Cup.

 SYMPATHY: Aughavas GAA Club and St Joseph’s Ladies would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the Gallogly family (Corduff) on the death of Margaret’s Brother Michael (Mickie) Bohan, Funshinagh, Keshcarrigan, and Uncle to Fergal, Vanessa and Fintan.  Mickie was a well-known figure in the Aughavas area and a big supporter of our annual trip to Croagh Patrick.  May he Rest in Peace.

GAELTACHT GRANTS 2019: Leitrim County Board GAA in conjunction with Leitrim County Council is offering grants for attendance at Gaeltacht courses to Leitrim boys and girls as part of their promotion of an Ghaeilge.  These grants are open to boys and girls living in Leitrim.  Some of the grants are part sponsored by Gaeltacht colleges.  In the case of cash grants, when students return they can claim their grant money on production of evidence of having successfully completed the course.  Application Forms can be printed from the Leitrim GAA website www.leitrimgaa.ie or contact our club secretary, Anna (0877607026).  The closing date for applications is Friday 26h October, 2018.

St Joseph’s Boys – Our U15’s team made the long trip to Bundoran on Saturday morning last to take on Melvin Gaels.  After running into an early lead, we let the home side back into it, we were to rue some missed opportunities as we lost out by a point at the end. Our next game is Kilurbid on Saturday morning in Kilturbid.

Our U13’s were invited to take part in a tournament at Cremartin Shamrocks Club in County Monaghan on Sunday last, we played the hosts in a final and after a tough hard-fought game we lost out by a goal.  The boys all enjoyed the day and will have learned from the experience.  Thanks to the Cremartin Shamrock’s Club for their kind hospitality and looking after us so well on the day with special mention to former Aughavas player Brendan McKiernan, Drumshanbo North for inviting us.

Sympathy – Aughavas GAA club would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the family of the late Aloysius Blessing formerly Aughnaglace and Hamden, Connecticut who lined out in the green and white with Aughavas winning the 1949 and 1952 County Championships.  May he Rest in Peace.

Wedding – Congratulations to Anthony Moran, Melican who married Siobhan Higgins in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet on Saturday last.  We wish them every health and happiness in their married life.

ST JOSEPH’S BOYS – Our U15’s had two games at the weekend.  On Friday evening they played Gortletteragh in Aughavas, this was a close entertaining game throughout with never much between the two sides, unfortunately, on this occasion, we lost out to a late goal on a scoreline of 4-11 to 6-8. On Sunday evening we travelled to Drumkeerin and got back on the winning track with a comfortable victory over the home side.  Next up is an away game –v- Melvin Gaels at the weekend, time and date to be confirmed yet.

U 11 – The U11’s had a blitz against Dromahair on Saturday morning in Carrigallen; this was a good workout with everyone getting game time.  Training continues for the U9 and U11’s at the weekend.

CLUB CHAIRDE LIATROMA – Congratulations to John Conefrey, Lisgillock & New York on winning €1,100 at the final draw of the Club Chairde Liatroma Fundraising venture which took place at the Centre of Excellence in Annaduff last Monday night.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS – Happy birthday to Aughavas players Colin McKiernan & Kevin Keegan who celebrate their 40th birthday in style in Terry Shortt’s Heritage Bar last Saturday night.

LADIES FOOTBALL – Hard luck to Niamh Gallogly (daughter of Frankie from Sonnabeg) and her teammates who lost out to Tyrone at the Ladies Intermediate All Ireland Final on Sunday in Croke Park.

Fixtures – The Intermediate Relegation semi-final will take place against our neighbours Carrigallen on Saturday 15th Sept at 4:00pm in Cloone. This is a crucial game for Aughavas and a huge support would be appreciated to get behind the lads for this local derby.

Championship – We were defeated by Cloone on Sunday last on a scoreline of there1-11 to 2-06.  Our remaining group game is against Ballinaglera on Sunday 8th September.  Time and venue to be confirmed.
St Joseph’s Boys – Hard luck to St Joseph’s U17’s in their championship semi-final against St Mary’s on Sunday evening last in Carrick after a spirited first half performance and playing against a strong wind in the second half, this was not to be our day.  Best of luck to St Mary’s in the final.  It was a similar story for our u13’s on Monday evening in Carrigallen. This was a brilliant game of football from two evenly matched teams, the game ended in a draw at full time and after 20 minutes of extra time St Joseph’s lost out by a point on a score line of 4-17 to 3-19, hard luck to this hardworking group of young players, hopefully there’ll be better days to come. 
Training continues for U15 with championship due to start next week, best of luck to all.
 
St Joseph’s Ladies – Good luck to St Joseph’s Ladies Senior Team who take on Glencar/Manor in the County Final on Saturday 1st September at 6:30pm in Pairc Sean. Come out and support the girls.

Presentation – The funds collected from the annual Turlough Conefrey Memorial Tournament were presented in Aughavas GAA Clubrooms on Friday night last.  Caroline Conefrey presented a cheque to Edel Conboy on behalf of “Friends of the Children’s Ward”, Cavan Hospital and to Annemarie Conefrey on behalf of “St Christopher’s Services”, Longford in memory of Ciara Conefrey, RIP.  Thanks to all who contributed on the day and to the school teams who took part in the tournament last June.

St Joseph’s Boys – Our U17’s have had two victories over Allen Gaels and Fenagh in the championship in recent weeks followed by a hard fought victory over Leitrim Gaels on Monday evening in Aughavas, this puts them in a good position for a semi-final place.  They have a bye next week. Meanwhile our U13’s have yet to record a victory in their championship, next is St Mary’s in Carrigallen on Thursday evening. Training continues for U15’s with championship due to start in a couple of weeks.

Underage – U17 Championship continues this week with an away game against Allen Gaels.  Our U13’s have a bye this week with their next game away in Annaduff on Thursday 9th August.  U15’s training as usual.
