INTERMEDIATE LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL – The Ladies’ season concluded on Sunday last as they fell at the semi-final stage of the championship in Annaduff with their opponents, Mohill, recording a 4-8 to 1-8 victory and thus they claimed their place in this year’s decider with St Francis. Out of the blocks early, our girls had 1-1 on the board as a Hannah Farrell goal and a Kelly Howard point had them into their stride. As the half wore on Mohill came more into it and had taken the lead by the end of the first quarter. Aisling Leahy with a pointed free and two Hannah Farrell points from play put our girls back in control. A Mohill purple patch just before the interval which saw them register 2-4 without reply proved to be our girls undoing as the teams entered the break on a scoreline of St/Mary’s/Bornacoola 1-4 Mohill 3-6. A fourth Mohill goal early in the second half left the mountain steeper to climb, but to the girls’ credit they fought on gamely despite the odds stacked against them. Three Aisling Leahy points and one from Sarah Reynolds was to be their only reward in this half hour and while the defence worked extremely hard to hold the Mohill attack to 1-2 across this period of play, the winners had done enough to edge the battle and we congratulate them on their win and wish them the very best of luck in the upcoming decider with championship favourites, St Francis. While the girls’ season has ended we have to compliment the girls for their overall dedication towards training and matches since last February. They claimed the Division 3 League title in July and have made great progress in their step up from winning the Junior Championship last year. They played eleven competitive matches over the season across the league and championship, winning eight and losing in just three. So, hold your heads high and look forward to building on this in 2019 girls! On duty on Sunday last were: Kathy Butler, Cora McCauley, Jasmine Maye, Hannah Reynolds, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Kasey Bruen, Alison McKeon, Aisling Leahy (0-4). Sara Crowe, Rachel McGarry, Sarah Reynolds (0-1), Kelly Howard (0-1), Hannah Farrell (1-2), Lauren Hackett, Joanne McGushin, Lisa Guckian, Isabelle Chandler, Ellen Woods, Caroline Guckian and Hannah Bird.

UNDERAGE ACADEMY – Training will continue at St. Mary’s pitch this Saturday from 10am to 11am for U7 and U9 boys and U8, U10 girls.

LOTTO – Play our Smart Lotto on line by clicking on http://bit.ly/StMarysKiltoghert Tickets cost €2 or you can enter a yearly lotto at a discounted rate of €80 which enters you into 52 draws. The Jackpot currently stands at €10,000.

GARY THE UNDERDOG – Wishing St. Mary’s senior player Gary O’Daly very best wishes as he takes part in TG4’s legendary GAA series ‘Underdogs’. Ten years on from the last series of Underdogs, the show kicked off on TG4 last Thursday night and will continue this Thursday on TG4 at 9.30pm.

RESULTS – It’s been a great week for our Club with our underage players winning two County titles in a few days.  Congratulations to our U13 boys team and management who beat Leitrim Gaels in a very competitive affair with the boys eventually prevailing on a score line of 3.11 to 3.10 in the U13 Barna Recycling Championship (15) Final on Friday evening.

Next up were our U17s who were aiming to win the double this year as they played Ballinamore SOH in the John McCartin Newtowngore Engineering U17 Championship Final. The lads didn’t disappoint and held off a gallant Ballinamore team on a scoreline of 1.23 to 1.07. Well done to the team and management.

Our Juniors had a good win in Pyramid Bookmakers Junior A Football Championship beating Gortletteragh on Saturday evening to book their place in the semi-finals.

LADIES – The St Mary’s/Bornacoola Ladies completed their group matches on Thursday evening last as they recorded their third victory in the series with 3-11 to 0-10 victory over Mohill in perfect playing conditions in Aughavas. Two well-matched teams played an excellent hour’s football and at the final whistle, it was the goals that proved the difference. Our girls took their goal chances well and staunch defending from a tight defence ensured that the Mohill attack was denied a major during the contest. Goals converted by Sara Crowe and Alison McKeon ensured that the girls held a 2-7 to 0-7 lead on the changeover as the match flowed from end to end. The pattern of the second half was very similar as the girls added 1-4 to their tally and held the opposition to 0-3 to copper-fasten the victory. Both sides will have to do it all over again as they are scheduled to meet in the semi-final knockout stages and we wish the girls the best of luck as they face off with Mohill which is likely to be played on Sunday next. In action on Thursday last in what was a fine all-round performance by all nineteen players were: Kathy Butler, Cora McCauley, Jasmine Maye, Hannah Reynolds, Enya Guckian, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon (1-0), Kasey Bruen, Rachel McGarry, Sara Crowe (1-1), Lisa Guckian, Sarah Reynolds (0-1), Kelly Howard (0-5), Hannah Farrell (0-3), Lauren Hackett, Ellen Woods, Isabelle Chandler and Hannah Bird (1-1).

INTERMEDIATE LADIES – Bornacoola/St Mary’s played their third championship match on Saturday morning last against the competition favourites St Francis in Ballinamore and despite putting it up to the Allen Gaels/Ballinaglera combination for the hour, the girls were defeated on a 0-14 to 1-4 score line. They got off to a great start with Aisling Leahy finding the net in the early exchanges as she latched onto a ball over the top and it was very much an evenly matched contest for the remainder of the half with the score at the changeover 0-7 to 1-3. However, the greater physical strength of the winners was telling in the second period as they wore down our girls to run out worthy winners, having added seven points to their tally to a single reply. Next up for the ladies is the final round of the round robin on September 1st when they face Mohill.  On duty on Saturday last were: Kathy Butler, Cora McCauley, Jasmine Maye, Joanne McGushin, Hannah Reynolds, Lorraine Guckian, Emily Reynolds, Alison McKeon, Kasey Bruen, Sara Crowe, Aisling Leahy (1-4), Lauren Hackett, Sarah Reynolds, Kelly Howard, Lisa Guckian, Ellen Woods, Rachel McGarry, Isabelle Chandler and Hannah Bird.

LEAVING CERT RESULTS – Wishing all Leaving Cert Students especially all involved in St. Mary’s the very best on Wednesday and in the future.

U12 GIRLS – After the success of our girls in the Division 1 final on Bank holiday Monday our 11 aside team were in action on Thursday evening last in the B Shield Semi Final against Bornacoola in Bornacoola.   This was a game of two halves with Bornacoola dominating the first half and St. Mary’s dominating the second half narrowing a big lead to lose the game by just four points. While the management of the U12 teams were absolutely delighted to retain the 15 aside championship the highlight of the year for them was the fact that each week they were able to field two teams with the 11 aside team winning three games and getting to a shield semi-final while all the time playing against 1st teams. This meant that week in week out St. Mary’s had 36 U12 girls playing competitive football.
