Croke Park hurling activity day

50 young hurlers from Leitrim got to spend last Tuesday visiting and playing in Croke Park. Hurlers from Glencar Manorhamilton, Sean O Heslins, Gortletteragh and St.Marys got to visit Croke Park stadium & museum and thenÓgot to play three 20 min. games on the Croke Park pitch. Our games were against clubs from Mayo and it was great to see that our lads were a match for the Mayo clubs. Great credit is due to the small band of personnel who continue to promote and develop hurling in the County. Well done to all.

Foundation award hurling course

A foundation award coaching course for all hurling coaches will take place on Friday 18th & Saturday 19th September in Ck – on – Shannon. Full details in next weeks news.

Under 10 club blitz

The final round of under 10 club blitz due to take place this weekend has been postponed due to the very poor weather. We are hopeful that it will go ahead on Saturday week 12/09.

Under 14 School of excellence

There will be a coaching session for the under 14 squad this weekend in preparation for a blitz in Sligo on Saturday week 12/09. We have no confirmation of venue but players are asked to please check the website over the next few days for details.

Under 15 School of excellence

The under 15 squad will travel to Castlebar on Saturday next to take part in a Connacht blitz. All players please ensure they have their Leitrim togs & socks with them.

Bus will travel from Manorhamilton to Ck – on – Shannon and will depart from Bush hotel car park at the following times.

Development squad coaching sessions

Starting on Monday last and continuing on Friday & Monday next, John Morrison will conduct coaching workshops for each of our development squads. These sessions are concentrating on technique and skill development along with tactical awareness. Club coaches are very welcome to attend any of these sessions. See details of sessions below.

This squad will travel to Castlebar on Saturday next to take part in a blitz. Not all members of the panel will travel as only on team are entered, however all lads who dont travel on Saturday will be travelling to Sligo on Saturday September 12th for a blitz.

This session will concentrate on technique & skill development and will not be a physical training session. All players are asked to bring a tennis ball to the session and to ensure they have their own water bottle. Any players injured at present are asked to attend as they can observe from the sidelines. A training session for the under 15 squad will take place on next Saturday morning in Leitrim Gaels GAA grounds commencing at 11.00 am in preparation for a match against Fermanagh on Monday next, August 10th in the Fermanagh GAA training centre, Enniskillen, commencing at 7.30pm. Bus pick up points and times will be confirmed at Saturdays session.

The under 16 squad will play Kildare in a challenge match on Saturday next at 1pm in a Kildare venue (most likely Celbridge)

Vhi GAA Cul camps 2009

Our Vhi GAA cul camps conclude this week with camps in Leitrim, Drumkeerin & Fenagh. A special thanks to all the children, approx. 900, who took part in this years camps, their parents and to the club officers who helped out at all the venues, to John Connolly & Willie Donellon from the Leitrim Observer, James Molloy and Therese Foy and this years Vhi GAA cul camp ambassador Dermot Reynolds who visited every camp and did a great job. Finally to all our coaches and camp supervisors who ensured our camps ran smoothly, rain and all, Thank you everyone.

Under 14 School of excellence

Our under 14 School of excellence will resume next weekend with a session in Ballinaglera GAA park, commencing at 10.30am. All players please attend.

Under 15 School of excellence

The under 15 school of excellence played Cavan on Saturday last in St. Marys GAA grounds Ck – on – Shannon. All players got game time with management using two different teams over the course of the session. Players have a break next week but full details of all upcoming sessions will be published in next weeks news.

Under 16 Development squad

Our under 16 development squad put in an excellent afternoons work in a challenge game against Cavan on Saturday last, winning by a point at the final whistle. Management gave all players game time in preparations for round one of this years Ted Webb blitz which will take place in Pairc Sean and St. Marys GAA grounds Ck – on – Shannon on Saturday next July 25th commencing at 2 o clock. Leitrim welcome Sligo, Galway City & West and Mayo South & West to Ck – on – Shannon and we would appeal to any Leitrim supporters free on Saturday afternoon to come along and support the Leitrim team and the overall blitz. Vhi GAA Cul camps 2009

Thanks to all the children who turned out in large numbers at last weeks Vhi GAA cul camps in Kinlough, Mohill & Drumshanbo. Special word of thanks to the Annaduff GAA club for making their grounds available to us on Wednesday morning as the pitch in Mohill was unplayable following Tuesday evenings downpour. Leitrim County star Dermot Reynolds, this years Vhi GAA cul camp ambassador, has been calling to all camps, giving advise and answering all sorts of questions, so kids have your question ready for Dermot when he calls into your camp. Next week is the last week of our camps so children dont miss out on a great week of activities in Leitrim, Drumkeerin & Fenagh (Sean O Heslins).
