U-14 School of Excellence
On Saturday last our Under 14 School of Excellence squad travelled to Sligo to take part in the Sligo Inter County GAA blitz. Participating Counties Sligo, Roscommon, Fermanagh & Leitrim all fielded two teams which gave all lads plenty of playing time. This brings to a conclusion the playing part of the season for this squad and we would like to thank all the lads that took part during the year and their coaches for the great work carried out over the past number of months.

U-15 School of Excellence
This squad will take a short break for the next few weeks while the under 16 championship is onÓgoing. Management will be in contact with details of next session.

U-17 Development Squad
A trial game will take place tomorrow evening, Wednesday October 5th, in Kiltubrid GAA grounds commencing at 7.30pm. To be eligable for this squad players must be in their last year at under 17 ie, born in 1994.

Coach Education
Hurling Foundation award course
A foundation award coaching course for hurling coaches will take place in Carrick on Shannon on Saturday October 15th commencing at 10am.

The coach education committee will be meeting in the next week to put together a plan for coaching courses for the winter months.

The following coaching courses will be offered to interested individuals:

Foundation Award
Award 1 Child
Award 1 Youth
Award 1 Adult

The GAA have recently launched the Award 2 course. It is envisaged that an Award 2 will be ran in Leitrim in the new year once our tutors have completed the training to deliver this course. It is recommended that any coach wishing to take the Award 2 qualification should have completed at least one year of active coaching following the completion of the Award 1 qualification.

All clubs should forward the names of individuals who wish to take a coaching course and indicate the course they wish to take to:-

Respect Initive

Up to Under 14 Championship

Their has been a great responce to the respect initive at our under 8 & 10 go games blitz, our under 12 mini league and under 14 championship. Now that all these grades are nearing completition we would ask all clubs to ensure that their mentors and players observe the initive by wearing the Respect bibs and getting the players to line up and shake hands before and after the game.

U-14 School of Excellence

The U-14 school of excellence took part in the Sean Purcell blitz in Tuam on Saturday last. Played inÓglorious sunshine the lads had great wins over Mayo & Roscommon selections but lost out to a very strong Galway West selection. Well done to all the players and management involved on the day.

U-15 School of Excellence

Our under 15 squad took part in the National blitz on Saturday 13th. Playing in Templeport they had a very sucessfull day beating both Armagh and Sligo but loosing to Cavan. They have a number of challange games arranged over the next few weeks. All players will be contacted with details.

U-16 Development squad

This squad have been busy over the past few weeks, contesting the Fr. Manning shield final and taking part in the National blitz in Portmarnock.

In the Fr. Manning shield final on Wednesday week last our lads lost out to Sligo by three .proud of their performance. On Saturday August 13th the squad travelled to Portmarnock to take part in the National blitz. In our first game we were beaten by a very strong Kildare side who went on to win all their games. InÓgame two we lost by two points to Antrim but recovered to beat Wexford inÓgame three.

As this concluded the season for this squad we would like to thank all the players involved for the effort they put in over the past number of months. To Enda Lyons, Joe Cox and Hughie Clinton for all your work with the squad and to our sponsors, Vibrotone Health & Fitness centre, Dromod, Co. Leitrim and Cox motors, Annaduff, thank you all.

Under 14 & 16 Hurling development squads

Our hurling squads at under 14 & 16 commenced training a number of weeks ago and will be coached this year by Steve Feeney, Alan Duffy, Tommy McCormack and Kevin McGrath. On Thursday last the under 16 squad took part in the Niall McInerney blitz inÓgalway and on Saturday next both squads will take part in the National blitz. The under 14 squad will play in Kildallen GAA grounds, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, with the under 16 squad playing in the Monaghan GAA, centre of excellence, Cloghan. Best of luck to both squads.

VHI GAA Cul camps 2011

Our Vhi GAA Cul camps concluded last week with our final camp in Ballinamore. Our numbers this year have increased by 85 on last year so a special word of thanks to all the children that took part. Also a hugh thank you to our camp supervisors and all our coaches for making the camps the success they were. To this years camp Ambassadore Adrian Croal and photographer James Molloy for all their work. Finally to the host clubs for your help and co-operation during the camps, Thank you.

Under 8 & 10 blitz

The final series of games for our under 8 & 10’s takes place on Saturday next commencing at 11am. First named club will host the blitz. If a club is unable to attend on Saturday morning please make contact with the host club and re-shedule the blitz.

U-15 School of Excellence

Our under 15 squad played Longford in a final trial on Saturday last in Annaduff GAA grounds. This proved a very exciting game with Leitrim pushing a more established Longford all the way. Excellent workout which will give the Leitrim management plenty to work on. Next session takes place on Sunday evening next. Players will be contacted with full details.

U-16 Development squad

The group stage of the Fr. Manning cup competition involving Leitrim will now take place on Saturday next 30th July in Michael Fay Park (Longford Slashers) Longford commencing at 2pm.

VHI GAA Cul camps 2011

Vhi GAA Cul camps Great turnout again this week at our Vhi GAA Cul camps taking place in Drumkeerin, Fenagh and Leitrim Gaels.

The last of this years Vhi GAA Cul camp will take place in Ballinamore commencing on Monday August 15th.

Under 12 mini leagues
We wish to remind all coaches working with their under 12 teams that all players must get adequate playing time. Coaches should also ensure that they observe the respect initive as well as the players.

Under 13 Regional Competition
Our U-13 regional competitionÓgot under way last weekend. This competitionÓgives players in their final year at U-13 a chance to play againts players of the same age in a 15 a side set up. A special word of thanks to all the coaches working with these regional teams.

The squad had a very good workout with a North Westmeath selection on Saturday morning last in Dromod. Thanks to the Bornacoola club for the use of their grounds which were in splendid condition as always and to referee Stephen Flynn. The squad have a break this weekend with the next session planned for Saturday 2nd July.
U-16 Development squad
Our under 16 development squad play Westmeath this evening Wednesday at 7.30pm in Ballinacarrigy.

VHI GAA Cul camps 2011

Ambassador
Leitrim GAA are pleased to announce that County Senior team member Adrian Croal will be our Vhi GAA cul camp ambassador for 2011. Adrian has both attended and coached at Vhi GAA cul camps over the years and will be able to offer lots of advise to all attendees at this years Vhi GAA cul camps.

Free Places competition
Our free places competition in conjunction with the Leitrim Observer continues this week. This competition offers children the chance to win a free place on any one of our twelve Vhi GAA Cul camps. The competition entry form will appear each week in the Leitrim Observer and those who have already booked will get a refund if they are any of the lucky winners. Winner week 1- Ben Carney, Woodlodge, CornÓgillagh, Dromod. Winner week 2- Niamh Lynch, Corcusconny, Dromahair. Well done to you both and best of luck to everyone else for the next two weeks.

Application Forms

Application forms have been distributed through the clubs and schools over the past few weeks. The on-line booking has commenced and we would encourage as many parents as possible to use this booking format. Camp type means, activities in Football, Hurling & Camogie will take place at the camp. Please note we will provide hurleys and helmets for the hurling & camogie sections of the camps.

VHI GAA Cul camps 2011

Leitrim GAA will host 12 regional based Vhi GAA Cul camps during the months of July and August at the following venues: Ck-on â€â€œ Shannon, Manorhamilton, Drumshanbo, Dromod, Kinlough, Gortletteragh, Aughavas, Dromahair, Fenagh, Leitrim, Drumkeerin and Ballinamore. Vhi GAA Cul camps cater for children from age 6 to 12 years, and all activities are graded to cater for children of all abilities. This year all participants will receive a specially designed Vhi GAA cul camp kit ie. Jersey, togs & socks complete with back pack and with no increase on last years prices Vhi GAA cul camps remainÓgreat value. All equipment including Hurleys and Helmets will be provided by Leitrim GAA. Full details of all camps is available on the Leitrim GAA website and booking can be completed on line or by completing the application form distributed through the primary schools.
