Bord Gais Division 3 Roscommon 1-9 Leitrim 2-11: 

Hyde Park was the venue for the local derby yesterday afternoon. It was the last round of the league Leitrim had to play before the semi-final on the 29th April. Leitrim started well with Shauna Clancy Scóring a goal and Aine Tighe quickly following with a point but Roscommon put us under pressure and at one stage the teams were even on 1- 6 a piece. Leitrim quickly cleared the bench and Roscommon went onto score another three points but Leitrim picked up the pace quickly Scóring a goal Ann Marie Gallagher’s shot just dropping short of the goal mouth Laura O’Dowd put the finishing touch to it and Leitrim scored another five points to finish the game. The final score was Roscommon 1-9 Leitrim 2-11.

Bord Gais League Division 3 Round 4

Leitrim 1-12 v Westmeath 1-10

We were back in our home ground to welcome last year’s Intermediate All-Ireland Champions Westmeath. This was a much anticipated game and this was evident when the Leitrim team took to the field of play last Sunday captÁined by our very own ‘Golden Boot’ recipient Áine Tighe. We started very strong with both Áine Tighe and Erin Farrell getting there names on the score board and then just fifteen minutes in, Annaduff’s Sarah McManus found herself in an excellent position and finished a pass from Áine Tighe into the back of the net. This was the goal that would be the difference between the two teams for most of the game. Westmeath of course were not going down without a fight and they soon matched us in scores and eight minutes into the second half the scoreline was 1-7 to 7 points in Leitrim’s favour but the danger was ever present.

The second half was a tense affair with two Westmeath players spending 10minutes in the Sin Bin*. There were several minutes of tense injury time with a Westmeath free given in the closing seconds. The game ended on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-12 in favour of the home team and we remain unbeaten in our fortress in Ballinamore for 2012. The win also sees us in 2^nd place of Division 3. Next weekend we take on Wicklow on Sunday 11^th in Ballinamore at 2pm. Some photographs from the game are available in the gallery section.     

*In my initial report of the game I had incorrectly stated that one Westmeath player received a red card.  This was inaccurate as the player only received a yellow card.  I sincerely apologise to the player and the Westmeath team and wish them all the best in their forthcoming matches.

Bord Gais National League Round 4

Bord Gais National League Round 4 Leitrim Ladies Vs Westmeath will take place on Sunday the 4th of March in Ballinamore at 2pm. Westmeath were last years Intermediate All Ireland Champions so this is a big game and promises to be a very entertaining game. We hope that all Leitrim football supporters will come out and get behind the Ladies on the day.

Leitrim Ladies are holding a fundraising Quiz in Club 360 at the Landmark Hotel Carrick on Shannon on Saturday next the 3rd of March at 7:30pm. It is your chance to take on the Leitrim Ladies football team off the football pitch! There will be numerous prizes on the night with 1st prize being €300. Teams are four people at €40 per team.

Bord Gais LGFA National League Division 3 Round 2:

Leitrim 3-12 Sligo 1-9:

We were welcomed into the wonderful new facilities in Toberbride (Collooney) on Sunday last. Connolly Park boosts a wonderful new clubhouse, a training pitch and a fantastic playing field. Thanks to the committee there for being very helpful to us throughout the day. We started the game very well and we had scored 1-4 in the first 15 minutes of the game. Sligo are a formidable bunch of players with plenty of experience and they came charging back at us. At half-time it was 2-6 to 5 points in Leitrims favour but as every ladies football fan knows only three kicks of a ball and a game can change in minutes. The second half began and again Sligo were looking like staging a comeback when they managed to score a goal against us bringing the scoreline to 1-6 to 2-7 ten minutes into the second half. Then the Leitrim team dug deep and the turning point of the game was a goal from Kiara Keegan and a point from county player of the year Deirdre Ward both from Mohill. We introduced plenty of subs and again new players got the chance to prove themselves. The game finished with a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-9.

Next weekend we play Armagh in Crossmaglen at 2pm in round three.
