Special Award for Services to Leitrim Ladies Football ? Deirdre Quinn (Aughawillan).
After 30 years, Deirdre finally hung up her boots on a glittering career with Aughawillan ladies when she captained her team to the League title in November. Deirdre was a founding members of Ladies football in the county in the late 1970s and a member of the County Board Executive serving as Chairperson from 1981 to 1983. Her county career with Leitrim ended only a short number of years ago and during her time collected numerous Connacht titles in addition to an All Ireland Junior Championship title in 1988. One of the highlights of her career was playing in the All Ireland Senior Final in 1984 against Kerry – where an error in the scoreline deprived Leitrim of the ultimate title. She received national recognition of her ability when she received All Star Awards in 1981 and 1983. Deirdre has collected numerous Senior League and Championship titles with Aughawillan and has two Connacht Club Championship titles and also played in the All Ireland Junior Club Final in 1998. She is a currently a member of the National Executive and will continue her work with ladies football as a member of the Calry St. Josephs club in Sligo where she resides.

The awards will be presented in conjunction with the Connacht Championship and All Ireland Runners Up medals to the Leitrim team at the Annual GAA Awards function in the Bush Hotel in Carrick on Saturday 20th January.

County Training:
After a well deserved break, county training will commence again on Friday 19th January. Manager Jason Taniane will again lead the team in 2007 with Helen Ward as selector and another selector yet to be appointed.

There was understandable frustration all round in Mervue this afternoon as the FBD League game betweenÓgMIT and Leitrim was officially postponed by referee Oliver Kelly, at 1:40pm.

After a thorough inspection the pitch in Mervue was rightfully deemed unplayable due to water logging. Attempts to secure another venue failed and everyone had to turn around and head for home.

The game was originally scheduled for Pearse Stadium but that change was announced earlier in the week as Pearse Stadium is being rested at the moment. Castlegar was secured for the fixture but earlier this morning there was communication from Galway to say that the Castlegar field was unplayable and the game was hastily moved to Mervue

Every effort was made to inform all interested parties, from supporters to officials, of the last minute change of venue but to no avail. By 2pm when the throw-in should have happened the venue was all but deserted and the seagulls were left to their own devices to play in the puddles.

In this day and age better is expected.

Wednesday 17th Jan is the launch night of the Leitrim Supporters Club in Dublin. This event attracts a large following and not doubt it will do so this year. The venue is the Herbert Park Hotel and the event starts at 8:30pm.

The Supporters Club was very successful in 2006 and reached a target of ?100,000. This year the target remains just as high as we are in much need of support during a time of considerable costs due to the ongoing development projects.

Please support us by attending on the night and becoming a member for 2007.

Due to the demands on our website we have decided to move home, lock stock and photo gallery, as we have out-grown our previous accommodation. This move to a new hosting area will allow us to expand and add more functionality to the site over the next year.

We are currently using the backup domain name of www.LeitrimGAA.org as we await the remapping of the www.LeitrimGAA.ie address which should be complete by the weekend.

Almost all of the site is rehoused and retested in its new home. There is no recent change in the design or layout but if you notice anything unusual please advise me asap (using the email address at the bottom of the page )and we will rectify the issue.
