ST JOSEPH’S BOYS – Our U15’s had two games at the weekend.  On Friday evening they played Gortletteragh in Aughavas, this was a close entertaining game throughout with never much between the two sides, unfortunately, on this occasion, we lost out to a late goal on a scoreline of 4-11 to 6-8. On Sunday evening we travelled to Drumkeerin and got back on the winning track with a comfortable victory over the home side.  Next up is an away game –v- Melvin Gaels at the weekend, time and date to be confirmed yet.

U 11 – The U11’s had a blitz against Dromahair on Saturday morning in Carrigallen; this was a good workout with everyone getting game time.  Training continues for the U9 and U11’s at the weekend.

LOTTO – There was no winner of the Lotto last Sunday night. The numbers drawn were 3-4-5-0-6-2-1-7. €30 winners on the night were Damien Bohan, Sandra & Alan Canning, Kevin Mollahan, Martin O’Reilly and Francis Bohan.  The House Prize sponsored by The Dugout was won by Eliza Beirne. CLUB CHAIRDE LIATROMA – Congratulations to John Conefrey, Lisgillock & New York on winning €1,100 at the final draw of the Club Chairde Liatroma Fundraising venture which took place at the Centre of Excellence in Annaduff last Monday night.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS – Happy birthday to Aughavas players Colin McKiernan & Kevin Keegan who celebrate their 40th birthday in style in Terry Shortt’s Heritage Bar last Saturday night.

LADIES FOOTBALL – Hard luck to Niamh Gallogly (daughter of Frankie from Sonnabeg) and her teammates who lost out to Tyrone at the Ladies Intermediate All Ireland Final on Sunday in Croke Park.

Fixtures – The Intermediate Relegation semi-final will take place against our neighbours Carrigallen on Saturday 15th Sept at 4:00pm in Cloone. This is a crucial game for Aughavas and a huge support would be appreciated to get behind the lads for this local derby.

St Joseph’s Ladies – Congratulations to St Joseph’s Senior Ladies who won the Senior County final on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean against Glencar/Manorhamilton on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-5. Well done to all the team and management. Two in a row!

Sympathy – Aughavas GAA club would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the family of Bernie McBrien, Corroneary, Aughavas who died recently.  May he Rest in Peace.

Championship – We were defeated by Cloone on Sunday last on a scoreline of there1-11 to 2-06.  Our remaining group game is against Ballinaglera on Sunday 8th September.  Time and venue to be confirmed.
St Joseph’s Boys – Hard luck to St Joseph’s U17’s in their championship semi-final against St Mary’s on Sunday evening last in Carrick after a spirited first half performance and playing against a strong wind in the second half, this was not to be our day.  Best of luck to St Mary’s in the final.  It was a similar story for our u13’s on Monday evening in Carrigallen. This was a brilliant game of football from two evenly matched teams, the game ended in a draw at full time and after 20 minutes of extra time St Joseph’s lost out by a point on a score line of 4-17 to 3-19, hard luck to this hardworking group of young players, hopefully there’ll be better days to come. 
Training continues for U15 with championship due to start next week, best of luck to all.

Presentation – The funds collected from the annual Turlough Conefrey Memorial Tournament were presented in Aughavas GAA Clubrooms on Friday night last.  Caroline Conefrey presented a cheque to Edel Conboy on behalf of “Friends of the Children’s Ward”, Cavan Hospital and to Annemarie Conefrey on behalf of “St Christopher’s Services”, Longford in memory of Ciara Conefrey, RIP.  Thanks to all who contributed on the day and to the school teams who took part in the tournament last June.

St Joseph’s Boys – Our U17’s have had two victories over Allen Gaels and Fenagh in the championship in recent weeks followed by a hard fought victory over Leitrim Gaels on Monday evening in Aughavas, this puts them in a good position for a semi-final place.  They have a bye next week. Meanwhile our U13’s have yet to record a victory in their championship, next is St Mary’s in Carrigallen on Thursday evening. Training continues for U15’s with championship due to start in a couple of weeks.

Swan Bar ACL D3 Final – We were defeated by Eslin in the Division 3 Final on Saturday evening last in Pairc Seán, however, we still get promoted to Division 2 for the league campaign next year. We had great support on the day which sadly wasn’t our day.  Our Intermediate Championship is due to start on the weekend of 28th July.  We wish the management and team the very best of luck in this campaign and please come out and support the lads.

Leitrim Seniors – Hard luck to the Leitrim team who bowed out of the Championship last Saturday afternoon to a strong Monaghan side.  Well done to the Leitrim U17’s who beat Sligo and go on to play Galway on Friday next.  Good luck to the team and management.

Underage – Well done to all the U9 boys that took on Allen Gaels at halftime in the game between Leitrim & Monaghan, stars for the future no doubt.  Also well done to all the U11 boys and girls that took part in the blitz last Monday, an enjoyable evening’s football was had by all.  Hard luck to our U12 team who lost out narrowly to Gortletteragh in the Longford Leitrim league, this defeat ends our interest in the competition for this year.

The U7’s and u13’s teams are preparing for championship which starts next week in both grades. Good luck to all involved.  The U13 Regional Team are in a playoff with the Carrick area for a place in the final.  Good luck to all the boys on this team.

Aughavas GAA Golf Classic 2018 – We had a beautiful day in Ballinamore Golf Club on Saturday 30th June for our annual Golf Classic with 20 teams taking part on one of the hottest days of the year.  Congratulations to the winning team of Ollie Moran, Kevin Meehan, Ray Gleeson and Declan McCarthy sponsored by Sean Faughnan, Melican & London.  The winners were presented with the “Owen McCaffrey” Perpetual Shield by Mrs Mary McCaffrey and also received €400 & Slieve Russell Golf Club 4 Ball Voucher presented by our Chairman Colm Moran. The 2nd prize of Callaway Golf Shoes & 4 ball voucher for Strand hill GC was won by Tony Lennon’s team.  3rd prize of Druid Half zip golf tops & 4 ball voucher for Carrick-on-Shannon GC was won by Frank Holohan’s team. 4th prize of 4 x Footjoy Tee-Shirts & voucher for Longford GC was won by Sean Doyle’s team. 5th prize of 4 ball voucher for Rathcore GC was won by Kevin Beirne’s team.  6th prize of 4x Callaway Golf Umbrellas & 4 ball voucher for Ballinamore GC was won by Brid Suillivan’s team.  7th prize of Srixon golf balls & 4 ball voucher for Ballinamore GC in memory of our own Jack McGovern, R.I.P. was won by Michael Solon’s team. The men’s longest drive on the 15th hole was Declan McCarthy who won a 2 ball voucher and €30 voucher for the Copper Still, Dromod sponsored by the Copper Still. The Ladies longest drive on the 18th hole was Breda Travers who won €50 sponsored by Declan McCarthy Meats, Ballinamore.  All players were entered into a draw for 4 Leitrim GAA jerseys and the winners were Leo Logan, Cathal McNamara, Colin Moran & Peter McKiernan. Aughavas Kellogg’s Cul Camps will take place from Monday 16th July to Friday 20th July. Registration for Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps 2018 is currently underway online via the website,  https://www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie/booking/ Please note: The online booking facility will close at noon on the Wednesday preceding the week of the camps. Please be aware that Registrations will NOT be accepted on the first morning of camp. The only method of registration will be via the online link.
