Leitrim Seniors – Hard luck to the Leitrim team who bowed out of the Championship last Saturday afternoon to a strong Monaghan side.  Well done to the Leitrim U17’s who beat Sligo and go on to play Galway on Friday next.  Good luck to the team and management.

Underage – Well done to all the U9 boys that took on Allen Gaels at halftime in the game between Leitrim & Monaghan, stars for the future no doubt.  Also well done to all the U11 boys and girls that took part in the blitz last Monday, an enjoyable evening’s football was had by all.  Hard luck to our U12 team who lost out narrowly to Gortletteragh in the Longford Leitrim league, this defeat ends our interest in the competition for this year.

The U7’s and u13’s teams are preparing for championship which starts next week in both grades. Good luck to all involved.  The U13 Regional Team are in a playoff with the Carrick area for a place in the final.  Good luck to all the boys on this team.

Aughavas GAA Golf Classic 2018 – We had a beautiful day in Ballinamore Golf Club on Saturday 30th June for our annual Golf Classic with 20 teams taking part on one of the hottest days of the year.  Congratulations to the winning team of Ollie Moran, Kevin Meehan, Ray Gleeson and Declan McCarthy sponsored by Sean Faughnan, Melican & London.  The winners were presented with the “Owen McCaffrey” Perpetual Shield by Mrs Mary McCaffrey and also received €400 & Slieve Russell Golf Club 4 Ball Voucher presented by our Chairman Colm Moran. The 2nd prize of Callaway Golf Shoes & 4 ball voucher for Strand hill GC was won by Tony Lennon’s team.  3rd prize of Druid Half zip golf tops & 4 ball voucher for Carrick-on-Shannon GC was won by Frank Holohan’s team. 4th prize of 4 x Footjoy Tee-Shirts & voucher for Longford GC was won by Sean Doyle’s team. 5th prize of 4 ball voucher for Rathcore GC was won by Kevin Beirne’s team.  6th prize of 4x Callaway Golf Umbrellas & 4 ball voucher for Ballinamore GC was won by Brid Suillivan’s team.  7th prize of Srixon golf balls & 4 ball voucher for Ballinamore GC in memory of our own Jack McGovern, R.I.P. was won by Michael Solon’s team. The famous “Pink Ball” prize of a 4ball voucher for Esker Hills GC was won by Brid Sullivan’s team.  The nearest the pin on the 7th hole was Michael Solon who won a €50 voucher for  Mitchell’s Bar, Carrigallen sponsored by Pat Mitchell.  The nearest the pin on the 11th hole was won by young Cathal McNamara, Carrickavoher who also won a €50 voucher for Mitchells Bar, Carrigallen sponsored by Pat Mitchell. The men’s longest drive on the 15th hole was Declan McCarthy who won a 2 ball voucher and €30 voucher for the Copper Still, Dromod sponsored by the Copper Still. The Ladies longest drive on the 18th hole was Breda Travers who won €50 sponsored by Declan McCarthy Meats, Ballinamore.  All players were entered into a draw for 4 Leitrim GAA jerseys and the winners were Leo Logan, Cathal McNamara, Colin Moran & Peter McKiernan. Underage – St Joseph’s U12’s played St Brigid’s on Thursday evening in the Longford/Leitrim league; it was a hard fought close game throughout with both teams playing some great football.  Unfortunately a couple of late scores saw us lose out narrowly on this occasion.  Next up is Grattan Gaels in Aughavas.

Tournament – The Turlough Conefrey Memorial Tournament took place on Sunday last, school teams from Aughavas, Cloone, Gortletteragh and Carrigallen took part on a lovely afternoon for football and excellent conditions.  These teams served up a feast of exciting games, one of the most competitive tournaments yet.  It ended with Aughavas and Gortletteragh in the final with both teams playing their hearts out.  Aughavas just edged it to win back the Shield.  Thanks to everyone who helped out in any way to make the day a success.  All proceeds going to charity.

U13 – Mohill area U13 Regional team take on Carrick area this week.  St Joseph’s have 11 boys on this panel.

U20 – Hard luck to Seamus, Fintan & Eoin and the Leitrim U20’s in their Championship game against Mayo.

New York Fundraiser –  A special thanks to the New York Fundraiser Committee who did a great job in organising this fundraising draw for Aughavas GAA Club and St Joseph’s Ladies which took place on the night of Sunday 6th May in Behan’s bar on Katonah Avenue hosted by John Creegan.  A great night was had by all. Congratulations to the winners Carmel Redican, Teresa Donohoe and Derek Shields. Congratulations also to Terry Williams who had a win on the American Lotto.

ST JOSEPH’S BOYS – It was a weekend of Shields at underage with both our U13’s and U17’s teams in Shield finals.

Barna Recycling U13’s – Our U13’s took to the field on Friday evening last in Aughavas against a determined Dromahair team.  We played into the breeze in the first half and took a little time to settle into the game conceding an early goal and a point.  However, the fightback started, even though we were 4 points down at halftime we had the momentum and with excellent performances and the hard work rate from every member of the team we ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-4.  Well done lads, keep working hard and look forward to the championship.  Thanks to Mary Kenny, Secretary of Coiste na Nog for presenting the Shield. Newtowngore Engineering 17’s – On Saturday afternoon in Carrigallen our U17’s played Fenagh in the Shield Final.  These lads got off to a good start and stayed in control going in at halftime 2-9 to 1-4 ahead. It was a tighter contest in the second half with both teams displaying great football. The final score was St Joseph’s 4-13 to Fenagh 3-7.  Well done to the team and management.  Thanks to Coiste na Nog Chairman Gerry Gallogly for presenting the Shield.  Our U17 Team – Aaron Moran, Shafik Oubihi, Sean Mark Lynch, Edward Donohoe, Conor Gallogly, Adrian Shortt, Niall O’ Rourke, Shane O’Brien, Patrick McCann, Rob Kotteman, Jordan Codwell, Iarflaith  Feeney, Niall McCabe, Shane Tierney, Joey Kearney, Adam Galligan & Eoin Kearney.  Coaches – Benny O’Rourke, Peter McBrien & Rory Harte.

SPRING CLEAN 2018 – Thanks to all who answered the call on Saturday last for our community spring clean. What a great result 26 bags of rubbish taken off our roads in the Parish. The R201 from Meiltron to Drumshanbo North, the Fenagh road down as far as the Community Centre and the Augharan road.

ST JOSEPH’S BOYS – Well done to our u13’s who had a good win over Melvin Gaels in the Shield semi-final on Thursday evening last, next up is Dromahair in the Shield Final on Friday evening at 7pm in Aughavas.  This is a great bunch of young players with loads of potential so come out and support them on Friday evening.  Best of luck to all.

U17’s – Our u17’s had a week of mixed fortunes, on Tuesday evening last they had a good victory over Allen Gaels in the last game of the league, and this victory put us in a three way tie for a semi-final place.  After an open draw we were to face Allen Gaels again in a play off on Sunday evening last in Carrigallen.  However, this time we lost out by two points and are now in a Shield Final v either Mohill or Fenagh at the weekend, good luck to the Team and Management.

U15’s – The u15’s will start their league campaign next week with an away game in Manorhamilton, check fixtures for more details.

ST JOSEPH’S BOYS – Our u17’s play Allen Gaels on Tuesday evening in Carrigallen, this is the last game in the league rounds, probably shield semi-final at the weekend.  Our u13’s lost to Manorhamilton in a play-off game in a rain soaked Manorhamilton on Sunday evening last, on a score line of 3-6 to 0-11, again we were down by 5pts at halftime, we fought hard in the second half to draw back level, but despite having chances we just didn’t have the rub of the green to get over the line, we now play in the Shield during the week.  The u15 League is starting next week, please keep an eye on the fixtures.

FUNDRAISER FOR AUGHAVAS COMMUNITY CENTRE – Acorn Players present “loophole” by John McManus in Aughavas Community Centre on Friday 13th April at 8.30pm.  Admission is €10. Tea & refreshments served. Please support.

Our u11’s were in Pairc Sean on Sunday and played at halftime in the Leitrim –v- Wicklow game, a great occasion for all those young boys and girls and hopefully plenty more appearances in Pairc Sean in the years ahead.  Well done to all involved with all teams.

TABLE QUIZ – Coiste na nÓg annual Table Quiz will take place in Aughavas Community Centre on Good Friday night at 9:15pm. We hope to see a good turnout with plenty of spot prizes and refreshments served on the night. Please support.
