AGM –  Aughavas GAA Club AGM took place last Friday night. SCOR NA NOG – We had great representation at the Scor Na Nog County Final in Drumshanbo on Sunday last.  Thanks to all the children who took part.  Rince Forine:  Edel McKiernan, Aoife McKiernan, Bradley Cowdell, Tori Cowdell, Mark McDermott, Conor Shortt, Caitlyn McIntyre and Sarah Green.  Ceoil Uirlise: Caoimhe Maguire and Padraig Maguire. Amhranaiocht Aonair: Michaela Mitchell.  In the Trath Na Ceist we had two teams with Team A coming in 3rd place:  Jack McIntyre, Eanna McNamara, Caoimhe Maguire and Sarah Greene.  Team B:  Adrian Shortt, Padraig Maguire, Aaron Moran and Shafik Ouibihi.

Carrick Hurlers – Congratulations to Carrick Hurlers on winning the Junior Connacht Final on a score line of 2-11 to 2-09 against Ballygar. Well done to the team and management. This is a huge achievement for the Club.

40th Anniversary – After months of planning the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Páirc Achadh Easa, the pitch was mowed, the flags were up, the marquee was all set and ready, finally the big day arrived and what a glorious day it was.  We were really blessed with such a beautiful day and a great crowd came out to celebrate. Congratulations to Aughavas NS who won the Shane McGovern Memorial cup and to Cloone Intermediate team who won the Gerry Keegan Memorial cup. Thanks to referees Gerry Gallogly and Patrick Guckian. We would like to thank all the members of the 1978 Committee and team and their families who joined us on the day especially Mick McCabe and Terry Shortt who unveiled the anniversary plaque. Thanks to Joey & Adrian Smith who donated the plaque to the Club. Thanks also to Tommy Moran who did such a wonderful job on introducing the committee and team, and Gerry McGovern for launching Aughavas GAA Development Plan 2018-2023.  Thanks to Gallogly catering and Pat Mitchells Bar & Restaurant for food, Padraig & Ann Reynolds from Ashgrove Marquee Hire.  Thanks to the lads for parking, the ladies in the kitchen and all that helped out on the day and made it a wonderful celebration.  Most importantly thanks to everyone who attended our celebrations from near and far, we hope you enjoyed your day in Pairc Achadh Easa.  Check out photos by Terry on the Aughavas GAA Facebook page.

 

 

St Joseph’s Boys – Hard luck to our U15’s who were defeated in the semi-final by Melvin Gaels last Saturday on a score line of 3-10 to 3-08.

St Joseph’s Boys – Well done to our U15’s on securing an important victory over Fenagh on Friday evening last, leading just a point at half time with play not going as well as anticipated and scores hard to come by, midway through the second half we found ourselves trailing by 3 points after conceding a goal, however maybe this was the wakeup call as after this the boys got into the game and pushed on to win by 4-8 to 2-6.  They now play Melvin Gaels on Saturday morning in St Mary’s Park, Carrick-on-Shannon in the championship semi-final.  Best of luck to all.

 

Gaeltacht Grants – Leitrim County Board GAA in conjunction with Leitrim County Council is offering grants for attendance at Gaeltacht courses to Leitrim boys and girls as part of their promotion of an Ghaeilge.  These grants are open to boys and girls living in Leitrim.  Some of the grants are part sponsored by Gaeltacht colleges.  In the case of cash grants, when students return they can claim their grant money on production of evidence of having successfully completed the course.  Application Forms can be printed from the Leitrim GAA websitewww.leitrimgaa.ie or contact our club secretary, Anna (0877607026).  The closing date for applications is Friday 26h October, 2018.

 

40th Anniversary – Aughavas GAA are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the opening of Pairc Achadh Easa on Sunday 28thOctober starting with  Mass at 11:30am in St Joseph’s Church, Aughavas for all deceased members of Aughavas GAA; 12:30 – Aughavas NS v Cloone NS in the Shane McGovern Memorial Cup; 1:45pm – unveiling of 40 years Anniversary Plaque by Mick McCabe and Terry Shortt; 2pm – a presentation to the Aughavas Team of 1978 and the Aughavas Committee of 1978; 3pm – Aughavas v Cloone in the Gerry Keegan Memorial Cup. Refreshments served.  All are welcome and free admission.  Later that evening at 6:30pm – DVD of 1993 Intermediate final Aughavas v Glencar Manorhamilton in the Dugout; 10pm – launch of our annual Aughavas GAA Fundraising draw in the Dugout.

Leitrim County Finals – Congratulations to Aughawillan on winning the Connacht Gold Leitrim Senior Football Championship on a beautiful day in front of a crowd of 3,700 at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada.  Good luck to Fenagh (St Caillins) and Annaduff in their Smith Monumentals Leitrim Intermediate Football Championship replay on Sunday 21stin Pairc Sean at 2pm.

ST JOSEPH’S BOY’S: Well done to our U15’s with two important victories during the week.  On Monday evening last we travelled to Kilturbid and after a close first half we pulled away to win comfortably in the end.  It was a similar story on Friday evening when Annaduff came to Carrigallen. Next game is against Fenagh in Fenagh on Saturday morning and the boys will be hoping for victory here also to be sure of a semi-final place.  Good luck to the team and management.  Good luck to all the St Joseph’s players and team mates on the County U16 team that take on Longford on Saturday morning in the Fr. Manning Cup.

 SYMPATHY: Aughavas GAA Club and St Joseph’s Ladies would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the Gallogly family (Corduff) on the death of Margaret’s Brother Michael (Mickie) Bohan, Funshinagh, Keshcarrigan, and Uncle to Fergal, Vanessa and Fintan.  Mickie was a well-known figure in the Aughavas area and a big supporter of our annual trip to Croagh Patrick.  May he Rest in Peace.

St Joseph’s Boys – Our U15’s team made the long trip to Bundoran on Saturday morning last to take on Melvin Gaels.  After running into an early lead, we let the home side back into it, we were to rue some missed opportunities as we lost out by a point at the end. Our next game is Kilurbid on Saturday morning in Kilturbid.

Our U13’s were invited to take part in a tournament at Cremartin Shamrocks Club in County Monaghan on Sunday last, we played the hosts in a final and after a tough hard-fought game we lost out by a goal.  The boys all enjoyed the day and will have learned from the experience.  Thanks to the Cremartin Shamrock’s Club for their kind hospitality and looking after us so well on the day with special mention to former Aughavas player Brendan McKiernan, Drumshanbo North for inviting us.

Sympathy – Aughavas GAA club would like to extend their sincere sympathy to the family of the late Aloysius Blessing formerly Aughnaglace and Hamden, Connecticut who lined out in the green and white with Aughavas winning the 1949 and 1952 County Championships.  May he Rest in Peace.

Wedding – Congratulations to Anthony Moran, Melican who married Siobhan Higgins in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet on Saturday last.  We wish them every health and happiness in their married life.
