Leitrim Croker Bound – Our county ground was packed on Sunday last for the eagerly awaited visit of London with excitement levels at an all-time high.  The lads on the field did not disappoint and we now all eagerly await a trip to Croker on Saturday March 30th at 3pm versus Derry and Division 3 football in 2020.  Well done to everyone and especially Evan, James, Niall and Paddy.

Fixtures – Hard luck to our Division 3 team who were defeated by Melvin Gaels on Saturday last in Boggaun in their first fixture of the season.  They welcome neighbours Drumkeerin to Boggaun this Saturday evening for a 4.30pm throw in.

Underage Fixtures – Our two U13 teams found the going tough in terrible weather conditions versus St Mary’s last Saturday in Carrick on Shannon.  They battled to the end but the home sides were in top form.  They play Fenagh at home this Sunday at 12 noon.  Our U17s played really well against MacDiarmada Gaels but unfortunately the result went to the home side.  They welcome Allen Gaels to Boggaun this Sunday at 12 noon.  Good luck our three teams.

5K Walks – Our 5k walks in association with Get Ireland Walking and Operation Transformation have now concluded and we would like to thank Barbara Byrne and Niall Brady for organising and everyone who helped out in any way and those who participated.

Sympathy – Our club was plunged into deep sadness last Thursday morning as news broke of the passing of one of our dearest friends Fran Faulkner.  All weekend club activities were postponed as a mark of respect and our club members turned out in huge numbers over the weekend to bid a final farewell to one of our most loved, leading ladies.  She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.  The following is our tribute to Fran.

Words are hard to come by in times like this, as the Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club attempts to cope with the news of the death of one of our leading and most popular members, Fran Faulkner.

Our immediate thoughts are with her husband Neil and her children Aisling and Jack, together with her extended Faulkner/Gilmartin/Devaney families. Whatever comfort or support we can offer the family will be very willingly forthcoming. For the moment, we join in the wave of sympathy being extended to them by the people of the Manorhamilton area and beyond, together with Fran’s very wide circle of personal friends.

Fran was a devoted wife and mother and despite her serious illness, took great comfort and pride in knowing that her daughter Aisling was honoured as The Glencar Manorhamilton Ladies Young Player of the Year at the recent club celebrations and presentations. This award, indeed the whole function, had a particularly poignancy, due to the fact that Aisling and her family could not attend, on account of Fran’s deteriorating health, but we are happy to know that we put a proud smile on the Faulkner family faces, even briefly that weekend.

The contribution of Fran Faulkner to our club has been immense and all her efforts were added to by her willingness to take up any task that would be of benefit to the club and its members and the whole community. A brilliant administrator; a mentor and coach to club teams, especially those in which her children were involved; a fundraiser with progressive and unique ideas; a loyal supporter of every club team and club activity; a person that would give advice, without ever enforcing her will; a leader and innovator, particularly in relation to the club development at Boggaun. Indeed, Fran’s input was central to the club’s decision to purchase and develop the new club grounds and her financial experience, through working with Allied Irish Bank, meant she could be the level head that would deal with the various grant applications and budgets for the development. How sad it is that this jovial, friendly, positive-minded lady, who was one of the heartbeats of the Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club, will be absent and so sorely missed from the official opening of Boggaun and from the club’s planned historical events in August 2019.

Fran’s contribution to the saffron and blue is an extension of the work done by the Gilmartin, Devaney and Faulkner families over the decades. Indeed, her father Thomas was the first Chairperson of our club, her mother Anna had the distinction of being the first lady Club Chairperson in Leitrim County Board GAA. Thomas and Anna made their mark, just as Fran has done.  Tá Fran anois i measc na naomh, sonas síoraí dá anam uasal, dilís.

Leitrim Team – Well done to our county footballers who made it four wins from four in Limerick last weekend.  Next up is London who are the visitors to Pairc Sean this weekend. We wish the team and management continued good luck.

Fixtures – Adult football kicks off this weekend with our Division 3 team scheduled to play Melvin Gaels on Saturday at 4.30pm.  Check our Facebook Page for confirmation of venue. Please support. Our underage fixtures will appear on our Facebook Page.

Leitrim – A great weekend for Leitrim football with our senior men and women both winning at home.  It was great to see such good support for the two teams but such a pity the games clashed as we all need to row in behind both teams.

Heinz Beans Tokens – Could everyone please return their tokens to any of our club officers at underage, ladies and adult level before the weekend.

Leitrim – A terrific win away to Wicklow at the weekend made it two wins from two for our Leitrim footballers and with the visit of Antrim to Páirc Seán this Sunday let’s all make the effort to roll in behind this mighty bunch of players.  Our hurlers have been desperately unlucky over the last two weekends losing by a point to both Cavan and Sligo.  Hopefully, their luck will improve.

Sympathy – Our club members were shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the passing of a great GAA friend in Tom Guckian, Carrick on Shannon.  Tom was one of the most obliging club members we ever had the pleasure of dealing with down through the years whilst a visiting team to Páirc Seán or Páirc Tom.  He has left a lasting mark on all who knew him and his passing will leave a massive void. We extend our sympathies to his beloved family, many friends and his club St Mary’s GAA. Ár dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Club Academy – Santa made his annual visit to our club academy last Friday night in the Gym at St Clare’s Comprehensive School.  It was a great occasion for all the children and their families with excitement levels at fever-pitch.  As a small token of recognition for all their hard work all season each child received a small gift from Santa.   We take this opportunity to again thank the children for their dedication and exemplary behaviour all season and all our volunteer coaches for giving freely of their time week in week out to nurture our underage talent.

Match for Mark – The annual Match for Mark game between St Mary’s of Sligo and Glencar/Manorhamilton took place for the 3rd successive year on St Stephen’s Day in Kent Park, Sligo.  Our U10 teams and ladies and mens adult teams all took part with all proceeds going to North West Hospice.  It was a great family occasion as two great clubs came together to raise much needed funds for charity by remembering a great friend and teammate.
