Unwanted Clothes Collection Fundraiser

We are very thankful for the support received from our club members and members of the public towards our unwanted clothes collection fundraiser which ran for the month of August.  Special thanks is due to Dermot McMorrow and the McMorrow family who coordinated the project at the Bee Park and from their home.

Minor/U16 Ladies

Our Minor Ladies team continued their winning ways last week with two wins over St Phelims on a scoreline of 9-20 to 3-3 on Tuesday evening and St Brigids on a scoreline of 7-16 to 0-6 on Thursday. The girls gave two excellent team displays on both days especially given the number of girls also involved in the Senior Championship the previous Sunday. This Tuesday the girls travel to Carrick to take on St Mary’s/Annaduff and they will be hoping to maintain their 100% success rate. We wish the girls and management all the best.  Our U16 game versus Allen Gaels was postponed on Sunday morning last due to an unplayable pitch. The girls hope to get their 2017 campaign started this Sunday versus St Marys at home at 11am. Best of Luck to Maire, Neil and the girls and please support if you can.

Congrats to club player Melissa Hewitt and Adrian Reynolds who tied the knot last Saturday and former player Paul Boylan and Michelle McTernan who were married on Friday last.  Good luck and best wishes to both couples for the future from all in Glencar Manor GAA Club.

Please continue your support to our underage teams.

U12 Community Games

Hearty congratulations to Manorhamilton Area Girls Under 12 Gaelic Football Team and their management who won Bronze at the National Community Games Finals in Abbotstown on Sunday bringing national honours to their area, county and province.  The panel which is made up of players from Glencar Manorhamilton and St Patrick’s Dromahair GAA Clubs overcame the disappointment of losing their semi-final to the Westmeath champions – Coralstown, Kinnegad to go on to defeat the Ulster champions St Patricks of Cavan by 2 points to capture bronze in the 3rd/4th place playoffs.  Final Score 7-01 to 5-5 with goals from Amelie McGrath, Megan Rooney and Aine McLaughlin and a point from Anna Devaney.  Special thanks to Brendan McLaughlin, Gail Cummins, Sean McPartlin and Vincent McMorrow for preparing and coaching this great team to achieve the National medals they were awarded.  We extend congratulations to all the Leitrim competitors and teams who excelled over the weekend.

Bredins

After thirteen years in business, last Saturday marked the closure of Bredins Giftware Shop on Main Street. It was always a pleasure to drop in to Bredins where a friendly word and welcoming smile from Eileen, Kitty or Carmel greeted one and all. The club would also like to record and acknowledge the generous support Eileen and Arthur always gave to the club down through the years. For instance, a number of years ago Arthur and Eileen along with the Market Bar co-sponsored our annual Golf Classic to the tune of €1,500 and Bredins was an outlet for club merchandise and tickets for club events and a supplier of club trophies and medals . We wish them the very best for the future and sincerely thank Eileen and Arthur not alone for the support they gave our club but for the wider contribution they made to the life of our community. Go raibh maith agaibh.

Glencar Manorhamilton Club Notes w/c Monday 14 August 2017

Sympathy

Glencar Manorhamilton GAA Club, its officers, players, members and supporters join in the many expressions of grief on the untimely death of Patrick Murphy in Boston, USA. Our memories of Pat are very real, of a player who always gave of his best when representing Glencar Manor and of a valued and extremely popular personality, both in the club and in the local community. Since news of Pat’s death broke, there has been an outpouring of heartfelt grief from all who had the pleasure of knowing him, particularly among his many, many friends and footballing peers in the Mullies and Manorhamilton area, all of whom are struggling to come to terms with his passing. Stories and anecdotes are recounted of a charming, pleasant, friendly and in-offensive character, with an absolutely bubbling personality.  His friends organised a Remembrance Mass last Monday evening, 14th August in Mullies Church, timed to coincide with his funeral mass in Boston. Large numbers attended this poignant service, to join hands in spirit with Pat’s family and friends in Boston.  The club extends sincere sympathy to the Murphy Family and we ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

U12 Community Games

Best of the luck to the U12 Manorhamilton Area Community Games team who contest the All Ireland Finals in Abbotstown Dublin this weekend. The girls have played fantastic football to reach this stage of the competition and we hope they can go all the way.  Thanks to everyone who has supported the girls on their journey – the people in Manorhamilton for supporting the bucket collection, their main sponsors MCI Ltd and other local businesses who have supported the girls; Killasnett Co Op, SuperValu and McPartland Fuels.

Club Football Camp

A whopping 140 children attended our Annual Club Camp from Monday to Wednesday of this week in the Bee Park.  They all had a great time under the watchful eyes of our wonderful volunteer coaches who are a credit to their families and our club.

Championship

Hard luck to our senior team who were defeated in Round 3 of the Connacht Gold Leitrim Football Championship by Bornacoola in Drumshanbo on Saturday.  A dominant first half performance by the Bors which seen them take an 11 point lead into the dressing room proved our downfall and despite a spirited and commanding second half performance by our lads they could not bridge the gap.  Finalscore 2-11 to 0-13.  Our Junior A team were flying on all cylinders in their Round 2 championship win over Gortletteragh in Ballinamore on Sunday.  Final Score: 3-21 to 1-7.  The win has qualified them for the quarter finals where an open draw will decide their opposition.  Well done to the team.  Our Junior B team take their maiden voyage in the Championship versus Leitrim Gaels this Saturday at 7pm in Ballinamore.  We wish the team and management the very best of luck.
