Well Done Girls:

Well done to St. Joseph’s ladies who had a great 0-11 to 0-09 victory over Dromahair in the senior championship final replay played in Bornacoola last Saturday evening. These girls have shown fantastic character to continually come back despite suffering defeat in so many finals and would not be denied on Saturday in a tense encounter. Well done girls and enjoy the celebrations.

U13 Championship Final:

St Josephs U13’s played Fenagh in the final of the 13-a-side championship on Friday evening at the centre of excellence in Annaduff. Unfortunately for our lads it was a game in which they struggled to gain a foothold against a physically stronger Fenagh team who enjoyed a comfortable victory and are deserving champions. Hard luck to our lads who put in a great effort all year and have made good progress and hopefully they will have better days in the future. The panel of players on Friday evening was Jonathan Harkness, Ben Harte, Fiachra Casey, Eanna Mc Namara, Cathal Mc Namara, Liam Mc Intyre, Pearse Kenny, Declan Brooks, Kalum Mc Loughlin, Aodán Harte, Harry Wilson, Cian Mimna, Darren Shortt, Dylan O’ Connell, Tommy Kearney, Fionnan Harte, Gary Mitchell, James Quinn, Keelan Furlong, Padraig Maguire, Jack Mc Intyre, Matthew Mc Cabe, Kevin Doherty, Cian Mc Hugh. Thanks to the large group of supporters who attended the final and other games all year and helped provide transport to away matches. Thanks also to Ciaran Harte, Fintan McBrien, Noel Shortt and Padraig McLoughlin for their huge commitment throughout the year.

U15 Championship:

St. Joseph’s U15’s played Fenagh in the U15 (15-a-side) championship semi final in Carrigallen last Monday. We performed very well in the first half against a formidable Fenagh outfit and led by 5 points at half time. Fenagh began the second half strongly, and after converting a penalty, our lead was reduced to the narrowest of margins. However, an excellent final quarter saw us score three goals and run out winners on a final score of St. Joseph’s 3-11 Fenagh St. Caillin’s 1-08. We now meet St. Mary’s in the final, date and venue TBC. Keep the green & blue flags out in support of these young lads.

Intermediate Championship:

All roads lead to Ballinamore next Sunday when we take on Aughnasheelin in the championship semi final at 2:30pm. We have had a great run in the championship after a poor 1st game and hopefully our lads can deliver another performance on Sunday. Good luck lads.

Senior Championship Semi Final
Our seniors will play Ballinamore SOH in the Connacht Gold Senior Football Championship semi-final this Saturday at 4pm in Páirc Seán with the other semi-final between Mohill and St Mary’s directly afterwards. In the quarter final replay last Saturday evening the lads played second fiddle to Aughawillan in the first half and trailed 1-5 to 0-5. They came out a different team in the second and with every man putting their shoulder to the wheel and upping their game they eventually booked their place in the semi-finals. Final Score Glencar Manor 0-14, Aughawillan 1-8. The support for the team was brilliant in our two quarter final games and the lads will need us all, more than ever on Saturday evening. Let’s all come out and do our bit!.

Junior A Championship Quarter Final Replay
Our eagerly awaited Junior A Quarter Final replay v Melvin Gaels takes place this Sunday in Glencar Community Park at 12 noon. Please make the short journey to support the lads as they bid to make it through to the semi-finals.

Good luck to the team as they prepare for the Championship final against St Mary’s. Well done to our U15 team who beat Gortletteragh last Thursday in the Shield semi-final. They will play the winners of Allen Gaels/Dromahair in the Final. Keep up the good work lads. Hard luck to our U17 team who were beaten by table toppers Leitrim Gaels on Saturday in Boggaun. They will play Dromahair in the final round of group games with fixture TBC. Please continue your support to our underage teams. Best of luck to all teams and their management.

Ladies Retain Division 2 League Title
Congratulations to our Division 2 Ladies Team who retained the League title on Sunday morning last after a captivating contest with Oughteragh Gaels. The sun shone in Kiltubrid as the Manor ladies took to the field against the Intermediate Champions hoping to retain the title captured by the Manor ladies first team a year earlier against the same opposition. Oughteragh Gaels dominated proceedings in the first half and the Manor girls were fortunate to reach half time on a scoreline of 2-2 to 0-8 – thanks to excellent saves from Natasha McEnroy between the posts. In the second half the ladies lifted their performance and the sharp shooting of Muireann Devaney, Leah Fox and Dearbhla Rooney who were starved of possession in the first half was aided by the quality of ball coming from the midfield pairing of Orlaith Kelly and Aoife Gilmartin and the defensive unit. Emma McLoughlin, Eadaoin Clancy and Captain Laoise Clancy worked tirelessly throughout the game providing excellent combination play and contributing scores when needed while in defence Laura McCann, Michelle McNulty, Hannah Johnston, Mary Broughton, Karen Connolly and Aoife Gallagher kept the Oughteragh Gaels forwards on their toes. Two subs were used during the game Aoife Gallagher for Gemma Tiffoney (20mins) and Rebecca Golden for Emma McLoughlin (55mins) and both players acquitted themselves well. Laoise Clancy accepted the cup on behalf of the team noting in particular the effort and dedication of Team Managers Shane Devaney and Padraig Kelly and congratulating Oughteragh Gaels on their Championship success the previous weekend. Well done Laoise.

The minor girls have one remaining championship group game against Fenagh/Kiltubrid when they will be hoping to maintain their 100% winning record. No details of the fixture as yet. The U16s await the commencement of their championship after the postponement of their scheduled games to-date.

Sympathy
Our club offers heartfelt sympathy to the family of the late Bernard Murray, Carrick on Shannon. Bernard was a footballer and hurler for his beloved St Mary’s and our players have many fond memories of him on and off the field of play. He has made a lasting impression. We extend our sympathies to his many friends and teammates in St Mary’s. May his gentle soul Rest in Peace.

Results

The big game of the weekend was the Intermediate C’ship quarter-final. In a game that started off poorly for us the lads showed great character in the second half when down to 14 men, they really took the game to Leitrim Gaels and took the lead in injury time only for an equalizing point to go over with injury time up. The final score was Fenagh St Caillins 0.13, Leitrim Gaels 1.10. Fenagh St Caillins u13’s had a great win against neighbours Kiltubrid on Friday evening last in the u13 c’ship semi-final, winning after a mighty battle on a scoreline of Fenagh St Caillins 4.08, Kiltubrid 1.12. Our u15’s were less fortunate in their c’ship semi-final played on Monday evening losing out to St Joseph’s on a scoreline of Fenagh St Caillins 1.08, St Joseph’s 3.11.
Fixtures
On Friday evening next the Barna Recycling u13 Championship final takes place at 6.30pm with Fenagh St Caillins taking on St Joseph’s. The venue has yet to be decided. On Saturday morning our u17’s travel to Kinlough to play Melvin Gaels in the championship. This game throws in at 12pm. Later on Saturday afternoon is the eagerly awaited Intermediate C’ship replay with Leitrim Gaels. It’s scheduled for a 3pm start in Pairc Sean MacDiarmada. Lots of exciting games to look forward to so please come out and support our teams.
Cycle from Na Fianna to Fenagh
Last Saturday saw this event taking place for the second year and again it proved to be a great success. With over 30 cyclists taking part the weather conditions did not make the journey easy and a strong westerly wind added significantly to the cycle time. Undeterred, all starters arrived into Fenagh to a warm welcome and an enjoyable evening was then had with food and entertainment and some rehydration. Thanks to everyone who assisted in organising the event and to those who helped out on the day and in the village with our stationary bike. Special thanks to the cyclists and helpers from the Na Fianna GAA Club who made the event possible.

Senior Championship
The Quarter Final on Sunday in Mohill against St Mary’s ended in disappointment for the Gaels. The good crowd of Gaels supporters and many more would agree that this was a game that Melvin Gaels should have won. But in football, the best team doesn’t always win. The club is proud of all, players and mentors, who have done so well all year. It has been a tough year with injuries and at least five players were missing on Sunday. All the players who played on Sunday must be complimented. Thanks to all who traveled to the game.

The Late Philip Mc Guinness
The death to place last week of Philip Mc Guinness , Rossinver . Philip is the father of Jesse who is a senior Melvin Gaels player. Philip was a great supporter of the club. The club would like to extend sincere sympathy to his wife Annie, Jesse, Marie, Grandchildren, relatives and many friends.
May he rest in peace.

Senior Championship
We came out the right side of the relegation playoff against Annaduff on Sunday morning on a scoreline of 1-08 to 1-05. The game looked to have fallen victim to the weather on Saturday evening but both clubs were anxious to get the game played and so tossed for home advantage with us winning the toss & the game was played in Drumshanbo. The playing conditions were difficult with wind & rain making life tricky for both teams. We got off to the better start with Ciaran Walsh snatching an opportunist goal in the seventh minute as we had the benefit of the cross filed breeze. Neil Nolan was called on to make a full length save and it was the 20th minute before Annaduff got off the mark with a free and a second placed ball 5 minutes later left the minimum between the sides. Nicholas Moore replied to stretch the lead but the visitors were reduced to 14 men with a red card just before the break which left the game finely balanced. Annaduff made light of the numerical disadvantage with their best spell in the opening 10 minutes of the second half when they struck for 1-02 with Ray Cox to the fore. At this stage they led 1-04 to 1-01 and were very much on top. As the game entered the last quarter we needed inspiration from somewhere and Nicholas struck a great long range point from play into the breeze to kick start a recovery. Ciaran Walsh added a point in the 49th minute and we began to move fluently at last with Nicholas hitting a great 45 followed by another point from play to put us ahead. Martin Beirne added 2 quick fire points one from play & one a free in the 56th & 57th minutes. Annaduff struck a point in the last minute but fittingly it was left to Nicholas Moore to complete the scoring from a free to give us an invaluable victory. Well done to the players and management on pulling out a big performance when it was needed most but it doesn’t disguise what was a very disappointing season. We all need to take stock over the winter and have a fresh approach for 2018.

CLOONE GAA NOTES.

CHAMPIONSHIP DEFEAT.

We exited the Fox Memorials Leitrim Intermediate Championship on Saturday evening last in Dromad going down to Drumkeerin on a score line of Drumkeerin 0 11 Cloone  0 10. The winning point coming with the last kick of the game. Leading by 06 to 01 in the first half it will probably be remembered as a game we could, and should have won. Injuries to key players certainly did not help our cause, and probably contributed to our downfall. On a week of heavy rainfall we must compliment the Bornacoola Gaa Club on the excellent standard of the pitch on Saturday evening last, and also on their recently opened marvellous new facility.

Our seniors must do it all again after drawing with Manorhamilton in the Quarter Final last Saturday evening in Pairc Sean.  Final Score 1-08 to 0-11.  The replay will take place this Saturday at 5pm in Pairc Sean.   All support welcome.
